Mission Inn Resort & Club - El Campeon Course
About
The highly popular El Campeon Course at Mission Inn Resort consistently ranks in the top 10 of Florida's many golf courses. The course originally opened in 1917 and decades later in 1992, it was joined by a second 18-hole course, Las Colinas. El Campeon is not only one of the state's oldest golf courses but also one of its most challenging. The traditional design remains largely unchanged except for a renovation in 1926. The course winds through towering forests and numerous spring-fed lakes. The layout features water on thirteen holes as well as dramatic elevation changes that measure over 85 feet across the rolling fairways and undulating greens. The signature hole of the golf course is the par-5 17th. This lengthy double dogleg possesses more hazards than some entire courses do.

Awesome day at Mission Resort
Course in great condition for March! Greens smooth and hold approach shots well, only downside to me is the greens are medium speed this time of the year and I like fast greens. Everything else Right up there with OCN, Shingle, Hawks, CG etc. but better value! Great layout and challenging course.
Great Day of Golf
Perfect day, awesome course enjoyed the day very much. Course was in great condition greens were fast fairways were trim and neat overall perfect. Pace of play was slow, a foursome in front having difficulties and a marshal was not out to keep the pace moving. First time that has occurred in my playing this course. The folks in front of us were about two tee-boxes further back than their skill level, would tee off to the ladies tee and you can get the rest as they attempted to move down the fairways.
Challenging course
This course needs water and the grass in the fairways is almost non existent.
Outstanding classic golf course
This was the first time we had ever played this course. It was outstanding. The variety from hole to hole was excellent. Water, elevation changes, sand - you get it all. And the course was in very good condition.
Only complaint was the need for a ranger as it took us over 5 hours to complete the round.
Nice course — Hit ‘em straight
Enjoyed the course where ball placement is at a premium and you are penalized for errant shots.
Course was very busy round took 5:18 to play.
All in all I would certainly come back.
Outstanding course
This is perhaps the best course I've played in the Orlando area and definitely the most difficult. The course was in great shape. The layout is much closer to what you'd expect in the Texas hill country that what you'll typically play in Orlando. Tremendous elevation changes add substantially to the playing length. Well conceived design and very pretty all around the track. I'll absolutely play it again and highly recommend it.
doesn't get any better!
if you like perfect from any distance!!!Mission inn is the golf course for you!!
Both courses have pluses and minuses
Played both courses recently again , Los Colinas is a nice layout in very good condition but the greens remain some of the slowest I have ever played. El Campion is $10 more, in good shape and tests your game. However , it appears that management refuses to spend the money to monitor the on course pace of play. One day it moves along. The next day one or more slow groups make it a 5 1/2 hour round and no Ranger in sight.
Great course
If you want a real challenge, try out el campeon. . Greens were in great shape and fast. Course is in great shape. Look forward to playing again. Only complaint/suggestion is several pin placements were on severe slopes. The greens have plenty of undulating features.
So you think you are good huh
There are many golf courses that will befuddle you or defeat you while you are playing at your best. You know there names in the same way they know your game and unfortunately your weakness..
But can these courses like Augusta and Cypress point also boast impressive views and incredible elevation changes with each hole having its own character and exposure of the shortcomings of your game?
To play well at El Campeon not unlike it’s sister course Las Colinas you must have impeccable control of your draw high and low and your fade high and low.
Every aspect of your game must be humming or it will humiliate you. To add to the woes the greens were fast and the slopes suttle. Getting on the greens was not a sure par or birdie.
It was wonderful !!
Nice Course, Pace of play unacceptable (5 & 1/2 hrs). Avoid on weekends
Drove up for Orlando for a round with my brother (both single digit handicaps). The course was nice, conditions were good. Greens rolled well, not overly fast but because of some the contours if they were much faster they would have been unplayable. The single biggest issue (really not many beyond that) was the pace of play. We teed off at 1:24pm and finished at 6:40pm. On the 2nd hole we had a ranger come up to us as we're backed up 2 groups on the tee to play ready golf and we told him, the groups in front of us need the talking to. We thought that might take care of it, but we never saw the guy again. What was an enjoyable round on a nice, difficult course was frankly marred by 10 minute waits on the tee. I would consider going back, but certainly not on a weekend. It's definitely a course to play, for the money you pay and the prestige the course holds in the area, you think they would prioritize this issue a little more.
Slowest round ever
This was a 6 hour round of totally unacceptable torture 4 groups on a tee box
Ranger gave us bs story that first group of the morning was 20 minutes slower than normal
We teed off at 12.04 and it took 6 hours everyone was mad
Course is a good track with some good greens .
Will never be back
Good but not Great - Used to be Excellent
We had a terrible experience with conditions about 1 year ago on Los Colinas and were skeptical about coming back. El Campeon was the course we played on Feb23-2022 at 2:30 in the afternoon. I have played El Campeon probably 6 times in the past 9 years and the greens have always been EXCELLENT. From their look and feel, to their speed, you could tell the money was spent and the experience was great. Not quite anymore, the greens are only slightly above average on the "nice public course" scale, and like mentioned, a good 2 steps from where they were a couple of years ago. I know not everyone has an unlimited budget, but the perception is that the greens are just not as nice as they should be for this historic and beautiful property.
Had we payed $90 or $100, we would have been disappointed. We got the twilight rate, and made 17 holes, but the last 6-8 holes were very slow, and could have been sped up by 10 minutes with a ranger out there watching things, which would have allowed us to finish our round. Don't expect excellent, just expect slightly above average and you won't be disappointed.
I would rather pay $120 and have the greens and experience be EXCELLENT than to pay $60 and have it be slightly above average. Of note, w played Disney Palm later in the trip, paid $120 and it was EXCELLENT. We played PGA Village Dye course and paid $125 and it was EXCELLENT. Florida golf is booming, but driving a bit out of the way to go here is a bit of a stretch if you have high standards. The 3 of us that played are all 4-6 handicap snobs if you will, so our standards are on the higher side.
Hope that helps.
