Desert Pines Golf Club
About
Desert Pines Golf Club is often referred to as "The Pinehurst" of Las Vegas. It offers a Carolina sandhills experience, yet is conveniently located just minutes from downtown or the Strip. This Dye design features thousands of mature pine trees lining the well-groomed fairways where white sand bunkers protect large, undulating, bent grass greens. Because of the large number of pine trees, often times this course is cooler than other courses in the heat of the summer. Although there are no forced carries, water comes into play on 9 of the 18 holes.

Golf while the family is sleeping
Great service even at the driving range. The personal managing the carts were friendly. The front desk to the bar, great service. The course was in excellent condition. A few go for it par 4’s and manageable par 3’s. This was a Pete Dye course design and very workable for the out of town price. We’ll worth the money. I will be playing this course again.
I usually don’t leave reviews, good or bad, but this one takes the cake. We show up at 1:15 for our 2:00 tee time, right off the bat they’re telling us we’re the only group on the course today, nobody in front and nobody in back. We’d at least like to warm up, hit a few balls and a few putts. Sounds like no big deal so far, right? So after 9 as we’re rounding the turn the manager and two staff members are standing outside the proshop where we drive by to get to the 10th hole. I nod to him, he waves and says “how’s it going?” I wave back and reply “good, thanks”. I get on the 10th tee and the other two in my group that were behind me say the manager stopped them and said we have to be done and return the carts by 5:00, at that point the time is 3:40. I tried to go inside and talk to him but everything was locked, I couldn’t find any door that was open. As I’m walking back to the 10th tee I see one of the staff members and ask him about what they said to the others in my group. He said his manager said the course doesn’t take that long to play and the carts need to be back by 5:00. I told him I’ve never heard of such a thing, having the carts back by 5:00 would be a 3:00 hour round. He then tells me we started at 1:30 (which we didn’t) and says after 3 1/2 hours the manager says we have to return the carts. At this point I’m completely agitated, I tell him to tell his manager if he wants to take the carts back come take them himself, I go to the 10th tee, after we hit our drives and we’re in the fairway about to hit our approach shots, the staff member comes driving up the cart path. He starts off by talking to the other two in my group, I go over and say in my entire life I’ve never been told I have a 3 1/2 hour time limit to play a round and return the cart, and they’ll get their carts back when we finish. I didn’t want to hear anything else he had to say so I drove up to the green. The other two in my group entertained him for a minute but I kept yelling to them to come on so we get get done and get out of here. They say the staff member kept giving them bs and said we’re playing slower than him and his 75 year old grandpop. So now I’m super agitated and the others in my group are astonished he said that to them, we continue on and try to forget about them. As we’re teeing off on the 18th we see 2 of them driving up the cart path toward us but halfway to us they turned around and went back to the cart return. After we finished the 18th they were waiting for us asking if we wanted our clubs wiped down, smh,… We didn’t say anything to them, we just took our stuff and left. Not to mention the course was in horrific shape, half the greens had large dirt patches all over them. What a terrible day this was. Like I said, I don’t normally leave reviews, but I/we have never been treated like this by any staff on any golf course any of us have ever played. Do yourself a favor and play anywhere else.
GREAT
Don't tear this course down. We heard it might not be there in 2yrs. It was great. Hope it stays.
Impressive Course Conditions in Triple Digit Weather
Nicely maintained course, especially in the sizzling summer heat. Ice chest of complimentary bottled waters kept my focus on the game instead of the heat. I think the heat scared most golfers away on this record heat day, but the pace of play was less than 3 hours. The course was challenging and narrow on some of the holes. I will be back to play the next time I am in town.
SOLID TRACK
Great condition. It’s relatively short, but also tight which evens out the challenge.
Great place to play when going to Las Vegas. Fairways and greens were in good shape. Staff were very nice and friendly.
A nice round
Desert Pines was in really good condition. It only plays just over 6,100 yards. I only hit my driver three times, which was fine. We played early and finished just under 4 hours. My only complaint about the facility is there isn't a single hole that stands out 48 hours after playing. Most courses have that "wow" hole that you think back on. That wasn't the case here. Course conditions were really good, staff was nice, which is all you can ask for.
Mostly good
This place is tight, and not long. Do not pull driver every hole, it’s unnecessary. Don’t be fooled by how straight every hole is either: plenty of undulation to add challenge. Greens are TOUGH.
2 biggest issues:
Zero water on the course. How can you not have coolers on a course in the desert? That is shameful. And extremely dangerous. And no ball washers to boot.
Secondly, the whole place shuts down at 4/5 o clock. Wanted something from pro shop post round? Too bad. Post round drink or snack? Nah. Kinda weird. Plenty of light left and money to be made.
I would play this course again, but not I heat unless they add water.
Cheers
