Desert Pines Golf Club is often referred to as "The Pinehurst" of Las Vegas. It offers a Carolina sandhills experience, yet is conveniently located just minutes from downtown or the Strip. This Dye design features thousands of mature pine trees lining the well-groomed fairways where white sand bunkers protect large, undulating, bent grass greens. Because of the large number of pine trees, often times this course is cooler than other courses in the heat of the summer. Although there are no forced carries, water comes into play on 9 of the 18 holes.

MARSHALL

NonResident paid $160 played with another Single & a couple Newbies on a Sunday Morning. I was very nice to the two New Golfers who had their moments. Marshall was not Professional telling us on 15 to pickup the Pace and we were on pace to play in under 4 Jours.

We did finish on Pace at 3:45 minutes.

Very Unimpressed & paid a lot of Money to be so.

Playing alone no one in Front of me I would finish in under 2.5 Hours I don’t need prodding.

Needs A LOT of work!

Heard staff was short handed. Regardless, the course was in bad shape. Can’t imagine this place competing for players much longer if they don’t turn things around.

Inconsiderate foursome in front of us.

We waited on almost every shot. They were two holes behind or more all day.

These 4 guys have been watching too much golf on TV. None of them knew how to play "ready golf."

Marshall was on them constantly, even watching them for an entire hole. Finally on the back nine they told the Marshall to Shut up.

They never got on a hurry. Definitely not the fault of the course.

Greens

Great course overall. My only two complaints were there was a four some who was taking forever. They must of thought they were PGA pros because they did not play ready golf when clearly they were merely monthly golf amateurs. Staff tried to hurry them up but took multiple times for staff to talk to them for them to hurry.

Second complaint was who ever set the green cups, left a ring around the cup when setting. This made putts harder toward the edge of the cup.

Overall, playing for the first time out of state, I would come back. Great course and provided some challenging holes but also not overly hard where you can’t enjoy a day of golf with friends.

Fun course

This course is a lot of fun. The layout is challenging, but not overly challenging to where you feel like you can’t get a decent score. Some narrow Fairways and a few short part three that are fun. The fairways had clumps of grass everywhere from where they had just cut, so that was a little bit frustrating, but it is what it is. Most Greens were decent, some were under repair and slightly overgrown. Would play again

Overseed, scheduling, personnel train wreck

First, I've played this course probably over 20 times as a local. The Pete Dye design is both challenging and enjoyable, the greens are undulating and challenging as ever (typical Pete Dye). Hazards are well placed, fair enough to make it challenging but not impossible. Overall it’s one of my favorite tracks out here as even on a windy day it still plays pretty fair.

We spent extra to book one of the first tee times off in the morning. I understand cart path only due to recent overseed. Finished the front nine as a foursome in 1.5 hours. When we got to the turn, we found that they’d been sending groups off on the back all morning… we rolled up to the 10th tee to see a group on the green, a group with a walker in the fairway, and two foursomes stacked up in front of us before we could hit the tee box. I asked the starter what the deal was and he more or less told me “take it up with management, you can’t play any faster because it’s cart path only following overseed.” I asked if we could get a rain check for nine holes as locals and was succinctly told more or less to pound sand.

We played cart path only on the front, as a foursome and still were only 1.5 hours (no rushing, ready golf) through 9.

I had enough time at the turn to take a bathroom break, grab a (delicious) breakfast burrito, cajole with the two groups in front of us, then the two groups behind us (who also weren’t thrilled at pace of play having paid a premium for an early morning tee time themselves) wait for the green on 10 to clear then start the back nine. Total time spent on the turn… the TURN was over 30 minutes. Couldn’t even go roll a few putts to pass the time as the putting areas (both) were so full that I’d have had to walk like I was in a minefield.

The back nine was abhorrent as it remained stacked the whole time. Spent 3.5 hours on the back. This is normally a track I absolutely love. Also my experience prior to this has been that pace of play is pretty fair. Longest I’ve spent even on a later morning round was about 4-4.5 hours. Fair out here as far as I’m concerned.

When playing the early tee times that I’m typically happy to pay a bit more for, I can get through as a single in 2.5 hours or less, as a foursome typically 3-4ish. A 5.5 hour round (when I started before 7am) is bull pucky. I get that it’s cart path only and overseed. I don’t even mind that you’re sending groups off on the back (make your money and keep the course open), but stop sending groups on the back after maybe the first hour or so if you’re going to do that during overseed. It was nothing short of a train wreck . I won’t be back for a while, and may never go back after my experience as it was both bad and person to person handled so poorly. I genuinely hope they can get their proverbial stuff together, as this is both a fun track and one of my favorites around here, local or not. Don’t want it to go the way of royal links. Sincerely a disappointed local regular.

A good Vegas Option

In LV for a conference and decided to play a quick 18. The course is fairly close to the strip, about 15 min Uber ride.

The staff were friendly and they have a decent driving range.

However, the pace was very slow. Not sure if that is normally the case, but the group 2 places ahead of us was really slow. We mentioned it to the ranger.

The greens needed some TLC. Overall, a good cheaper alternative to places like TPC and Bears Best.

I like the course but hate the pace of play.

Staff was friendly and we got out on time. I was looking forward to playing this Pete Dye course and it was a nice layout. Then the nightmare started. We were waiting on every tee box and fairway. It was crazy. Foursome on the green, foursome on the fairway, foursome on the tee box, foursome waiting to get on the box, and another foursome stacked behind them. The out of town doctors we were playing with just gave up on the turn, We continued until the 14th and called it quits.

It’ll do

On a layover, and needed to itch a golf scratch. Course played fast but guys in front of us played slow. With overdevelopment of Las Vegas golf courses are disappearing and Thomson rounds get shared by remaining courses.

This course is kept up. Driving range is a bit hard to figure out. Make sure and buy credits if you need to hit balls ahead of time.

Too expensive for the condition

The course was more than $100 each and the greens were super rough in spots. The fairways could use some TLC. I realize that it is Vegas and it is summer because I work in a similar climate at a golf course. However, the cost was not worth the product and service which was "mediocre golf"
