Las Vegas National Golf Course
About
A traditional golf course in the land of faux waterfalls, shooting fountains and mountains, Las Vegas National Golf Club is actually part site of Tiger Woods' first win on the PGA Tour.
Las Vegas National was part of the rotation of the Las Vegas Invitational when Woods broke onto the Tour in 1996. Tiger actually won the Las Vegas Invitational (then a 90-hole, multi-course event) with a final round 64 on the private TPC at Summerlin track, erasing David Love III's four-stroke lead.
Average hackers will find a course with plenty of trees in the desert and five inventive par 3s that give National much of its character. This isn't desert golf. It's old school golf with palm trees and sand.
It is also very close to the Strip, just a few turns and about a 10-minute drive away. The area's built up around it with fast-food shops, but the Rat Pack era style remains alive within Las Vegas National's grounds.
"As you pull into the lot at Las Vegas National, the sense of the sixties is evident in the rectangular pastel colored stucco clubhouse that might have seemed modernistic back then, but now is a charming reminder of an architecturally dated style," TravelGolf.com writer Doug Saunders said.

Good straight forward course
Pros: The fairways, greens, and bunkers are in very good to excellent condition. Beverage cart on the course. Friendly staff. Breakfast at the grill was good. Has a driving range and putting green. Near the hotels.
Cons: Busy golf course so the play was a little slow by default.
Great golf for the price
Had played the course two years ago but was hurried and did not have time to really enjoy the course. Even though it is not the newest, this time around I had a chance to play at a very comfortable pace, the course itself was very well kept and traffic on that day was limited. I arrived early with a tee time of 10:30 am but was given opportunity to tee off early. Weather was hot but not Vegas summer weather hot. Greens were well cut and overall the staff was very friendly. I was just not another golfer out to play, all took the time to ask about my play, even the workers cutting and working on the grounds. Very satisfied with the course and will definitely go play again....
Great course in the heart of Las Vegas.
Great course in the heart of Las Vegas.
Enjoyed playing a course that has been part of the tour.
Tiger Wood's first PGA win of career.
A lot of history around course of players and celebrities as well in the facilities.
Green Greens
The greens were green and rolling nice.
Ok pace for late afternoon round.
It's too bad area isn't so nice for a course with so much rich history.
Decent course, wait for the traps to be repaired
Played here (even though some reviews were quite negative), primarily due to location (only 4 miles from the Bellagio). Cab fare about $25 each way, so consider that. Rented clubs for about $60; way too much for the quality of clubs: they were beaten up, looked like they should have been retired years ago. Green fees seemed to be a little pricey, but hey, it's Vegas, everything is pricey.
As for the course, somewhat challenging, especially in the wind (constant 18 - 20 mph with higher gusts). Greens are indeed challenging: fast, with virtually no level areas whatsoever, so just be advised.
The traps were devoid of sand, only the granular base remained. This was due, I found out after the round, to 70 mph winds they had a few weeks earlier that literally blew all the sand out of the traps. They hadn't yet been repaired. Thus my title admonition.
The course personnel were very nice and unobtrusive. I was a single and was placed with a twosome that had, as of our tee time of 11AM, already played 18 holes at another course. Needless to say, these guys played fast. Even so, we never really waited on the group in front of us; the round took 3:20. The only downside was I did not feel comfortable taking the time necessary for my usual putting routine, as a result I'm sure there were more 3 putts than there should have been, even given the greens.
The pro shop staff were ok, nothing to write home about but acceptable. I had forgotten my ball mark repair tool so I bought one: $16 (OUCH!) - not that I used it - not once! - the greens were so hard.
The course is historic due to the Sands Tournaments played there in the '60's, the homes around it, etc. That's kinda nice if you're into that kind of thing. While I'm generally not, there was a sense of deja vu which I understood afterwards while talking to one of the groundskeeping staff: he mentioned the Sands Tournaments having been played there and then I realized that the feeling I had on a couple of holes that I had seen them before made sense: as a boy, I remember seeing my dad watch one of the tournaments on TV. Funny how things buried that deep in memory can be brought up.
Anyway, bottom line is this: decent, challenging course, be prepared for the wind, bring your own clubs if you can (and your ball mark repair tool!) and definitely wait until they get the traps sanded.
Very nice course. Will play again soon!
Sand Traps are hard pan but all the courses I have played in Vegas are that way? Other than that, I really enjoy this course & would recommend it.
Old
Played a hit buy for $91. Payed way too much for this course . Not the best of shape . Hate to criticize but I wouldn't do it again . Play Spanish Trail
Old classic course that is clearly not funded properly and deteriating
Review of the "old Sahara"
I played this course 30 years. I liked it then, I like it even better as The Las Vegas National Golf Club. The course was in great shape Tee to Green. The greens were fantastic. My brother and I enjoyed the break from the casinos. I would play it again!
Good historic course
This is good enjoyable historic course in great condition. No GPS. Friendly staff. Fairly forgiving and wide fairways. Tees, fairways and greens in perfect condition. Free range balls. Fairways are fairly wide and forgiving. Houses line some fairways but are not right next to the fairways. Some houses are historic and marked. Some holes are very challenging. Water and/or bunkers come into play on many holes. Traps are hard packed and hard to play. Tees are fairly long so you can pick which tee matches your abilities. A good and challenging finishing hole. Unfortunately, an eyesore stream runs through the course that is filled with trash. If you hit into the stream don't bother looking for the ball - the stream looks like a health hazard but does not smell.
Great Hot Deal!
For the price we got on this Hot Deal from Golf Now, you couldn't bet it! Good course with lots of local history in the surrounding homes.
