Las Vegas National Golf Course
About
A traditional golf course in the land of faux waterfalls, shooting fountains and mountains, Las Vegas National Golf Club is actually part site of Tiger Woods' first win on the PGA Tour.
Las Vegas National was part of the rotation of the Las Vegas Invitational when Woods broke onto the Tour in 1996. Tiger actually won the Las Vegas Invitational (then a 90-hole, multi-course event) with a final round 64 on the private TPC at Summerlin track, erasing David Love III's four-stroke lead.
Average hackers will find a course with plenty of trees in the desert and five inventive par 3s that give National much of its character. This isn't desert golf. It's old school golf with palm trees and sand.
It is also very close to the Strip, just a few turns and about a 10-minute drive away. The area's built up around it with fast-food shops, but the Rat Pack era style remains alive within Las Vegas National's grounds.
"As you pull into the lot at Las Vegas National, the sense of the sixties is evident in the rectangular pastel colored stucco clubhouse that might have seemed modernistic back then, but now is a charming reminder of an architecturally dated style," TravelGolf.com writer Doug Saunders said.

A most pleasant experience
from the parking lot to the first tee, a very professional, courteous and friendly experience. Tee'd off an hour early, course was in excellent shape, we only held ourselves up. Will definitely come back
Nice, established course.
Great deal on Golf Now. Nice older course, plenty challenging & conveniently located near the strip.
Nice Comfortable option for a relaxing round in Vegas
I found myself with a little free time in Vegas and decided to get outside and play. Booked this course on GolfNow for a reasonable rate: Reasonable in that most courses in Vegas double the fees for non-residents, and this one still came out to a reasonable price. Rental clubs were nice and included a new sleeve of balls, and tees. Great breakfast and post round sandwich on-site...quality of food options was surprisingly good with great service. Course was a traditional style layout that winds through an older neighborhood that looked like it had seen better days. But the course was in very good condition and was enjoyable to play. Pace of play was about average for a Friday morning. Yardage was not very well marked, if you are traveling pack your range finder or spend a bit of time guessing, but that is standard for travel golf. Overall this course is a good value and I would recommend it for a casual relaxed day outside in Vegas.
Nice Historic Golf Course
Based on the historic elements of this course it is worth playing, but hidden behind all that is a nice track. I landed a great deal for this course via GolfNow, paying about 1/3 of what a normal non-resident round would have cost me. I was greeted upon arrival, given a cart and range balls, had a quick lunch in the clubhouse, and then was paired with 3 other singles before my booked tee time...so everything prior to teeing off was great.
Course conditions for late October were great. Tee boxes were well manicured and green. Fairways were green, lush, and soft without being mushy. Greens were a little slow, but not to the point where they were frustrating. They rolled well, but putts came up shorter than expected all day. Bunkers were filled with gritty pebbles, and not real sand, but they were consistent.
Course layout was pretty straightforward. Some short par 4's, some long par 4's, there was 1 long par 3...overall a good layout for a course built in the 1960's.
As for the historic elements, this course is full of nostalgia. The Rat Pack used to play here, I mean, what more do you need?! A scene from 'Casino' was filmed here! The major Tours have played here! On the horizon of many holes you can see the Stratosphere Hotel and the High Roller Ferris Wheel. On others you can see the mountains. I kept thinking, if only the trees on this course could talk....imagine what THEY have seen going on...LOL!
Lastly, this course allows you to rent the single person hoverboards rather than a cart. Pretty cool way to zip around the course, so you may want to give it a try. Ironic that an older course has embraced the cutting edge technology....
Sure there are other nicer options in Vegas, both on and off the Strip, but Las Vegas National is a must try at least once.
Greens Very Bad When I Played
This is a nice (and challenging) course overall, but the day I played the greens were virtually unplayable. Pretty much like putting on carpet and extremely slow. I am sure they recently top dressed them and I get the need, but nonetheless my round was sorta useless.
The course provides numerous challenging holes with many bunkers and water. I mainly picked it due to the short cab ride from the strip (in Vegas on business)
LV National
Old course with cool plaques describing various people who lived there in the past. Nice layout but the staff could clean up the creek that run through.
Pace of play
Nice course, We started during a competition round. The flights ahead of us were playing this competition. We had to wait every hole. At the 18th 3 flights had to wait before we could tee off . It is better to take some space between the competionflights and greenfee players. (20 minutes) . If we were aware of this I did not make a reservation.
AZ golfer in Las Vegas
Got a good deal on GolfNow. Fairways were very wet and the rough was long...could have used some cutting for both of them. Course is fun to play with some interesting courses, set in a park style arrangement. Pace of play was slow...group ahead of us played like they were on TV...didn't really know how far to they could hit it, so they waited way too long before hitting. Had a good playing partner so time on course was nice. Greens were nice and putted smoothly. Played holes where Tiger played when he won the Las Vegas Invitational in 1996. Holes had commentary about what he got on the holes when he won.
Nice layout!
Course was recently overseeded so maybe a little uncut, very wet when we started after 8, and sprinklers still going till like 5th hole, combo of wet and uncut made things a little more difficult. Par 3's are not for the timid, we played from 2nd tee and shortest was around 155. Overall i enjoyed the round and the layout, will play again!
awful in every way
Once again a cart path only situation which I only discovered at the course - not when booking tee times months ahead! Staff were miserable, grass on greens was longer than some fairways I have seen. Sand traps acceptable. Could not wait to finish round and get out of there. Should be a refund for sure.
Great old school course
Great layout. Nostalgic, too. Lots of excellent golf courses in the Las Vegas area, and this one has become my favorite.
Staff is outstanding, too. From the moment you check in at the desk, to the guys in the cart barn, the starter, to person on the beverage cart, to the marshals, to the bartender on the 19th hole. Friendly and personable.
Traditional course
If you don't like playing from rocks every crooked shot you hit this is a great option.
This course has some long par 3's
The course and the price is great. Some of the greens had some bad spots, but if I hadn't had to putt through it I wouldn't have noticed.
The only blemish to the whole experience is that the pro shop rep charged my card for the single rate, but wanted both players in my group to be charged to the same card. So he charged the double rate. Not looking, went ahead and signed the receipt. Later on it was noticed that the rep hadn't cancelled the single rate, so I ended up being charge for three players versus the two players rate. Currently in the process of getting that refunded. Hopefully!
Nice Tight Layout
Tee to green, the course was in excellent shape. Greens had been sanded within the last few weeks which made them difficult to put. Tough pin placements throughout.
Amazing
This is one of Vegas's oldest course and for value for money there is nothing to match it.
Course in great condition we played around noon and though very hot,we had a wonderful experience.
Fantastic service from the staff in the pro shop thru to the bar where we had a wonderful breakfast.
Will definitely return to this terrific course in the near future
A nice challenge
Very long and challenging course. Plenty of bunkers, lots of sand. The greens were challenging so you have to be on your game. It was 107f when we played thank goodness the cart girl came by several times during the 18 holes. We will definitely play the course again. Unfortunately the club house was closed when we finished our round, but there is a nice little pub just down the street.
BRING WATER
Long ball hitting is fine but you must be able to work the ball if your driving average runs more than 250 carry.
Old
This was probably a nice course 20 years ago but needs care and updating now.
