A traditional golf course in the land of faux waterfalls, shooting fountains and mountains, Las Vegas National Golf Club is actually part site of Tiger Woods' first win on the PGA Tour.

Las Vegas National was part of the rotation of the Las Vegas Invitational when Woods broke onto the Tour in 1996. Tiger actually won the Las Vegas Invitational (then a 90-hole, multi-course event) with a final round 64 on the private TPC at Summerlin track, erasing David Love III's four-stroke lead.

Average hackers will find a course with plenty of trees in the desert and five inventive par 3s that give National much of its character. This isn't desert golf. It's old school golf with palm trees and sand.

It is also very close to the Strip, just a few turns and about a 10-minute drive away. The area's built up around it with fast-food shops, but the Rat Pack era style remains alive within Las Vegas National's grounds.

"As you pull into the lot at Las Vegas National, the sense of the sixties is evident in the rectangular pastel colored stucco clubhouse that might have seemed modernistic back then, but now is a charming reminder of an architecturally dated style," TravelGolf.com writer Doug Saunders said.

Great course & fun history.

Our first time at this course and we were pleasantly surprised. This course is in the heart of old Vegas, so we were a little skeptical as we neared the course. But, what a gem! Decent practice facilities, can hit off grass, practice the bunkers and chipping in odd lies and if you do., you'll benefit. Staff was great, golf cart girl made several rounds and we enjoyed a draft beer for the price of your score!!

Great company, fantstic weather and a good test of golf

My first round of golf on this trip and what a way to start! Even though I didn't get a deal, the fact that you are playing a course in this condition and with the history it has, makes it worthwhile.

I was paired with a woman who was in town for a bowling tournament and her friend. It was their first time on this course as well so not ideal from a local knowledge perspective but great company nevertheless.

My only gripe is that they were doing maintenance on some tees which I didn't see mentioned anywhere. This meant that some holes played SIGNIFICANTLY shorter - a lob wedge for a hole which should have been over 200 yards. I am sure this is a short term problem but it may be worth ringing before you book.

Staff were all very friendly and courteous.

If I lived in Vegas I would definitely be returning.

Back in good shape

I hadn't played this course for a while but was pleasantly surprised with the course conditions. It was the best it had been in years. I still think the price is too high but if the market will bear it...

I will play it again soon.

Old Vegas at its best

This course is a history lesson in the way Vegas use to be. The minute you walk in it's old school, the memorabilia of the course, trophy cases, the piano ( close your eyes and picture Frank Sanatra) and the bar. The course is friendly, but challenging depending on the pin placement. The trees give shade from the sun and the info about different houses / owners gives a nice read while waiting to tee off on the various holes. This is a course that I will want to play when the temps climb in the summer after 2 pm, and the players/ visitors are gone.

Overrated but OK

Many locals recommended it, but I found it to be just OK. Compared to the other courses we played in the area, this course was only average at best. They do not treat "non-locals" very well with the price. If it was not for GolfNow, we would not have played here.

Worth a Round for the History

This course is worth playing once if only for the history. The Rat Pack, Tiger's first win, Goodfellas film, etc. And the houses are all still in the 1961 genre which is cool. The course was in good shape. Not long but still challenging. I'm a 12 handicap and shot 82. Birdied two of the par 5's but was probably 5 over on the par 3's so that sums it up.

Rental clubs very expensive

Course was nice and in good condition-but pace of play was quite slow. Thought I got a good deal on golf now.com at $60 but didn't expect to pay another $60 for rental clubs. ($30 would seem more on the average). Maybe this is how the course recoups some of the money it loses to Golfnow.com

Historic Las Vegas Course

When I first played this course it was called the Sahara County Club, which was owned by the Sahara Casino. In it's heyday, Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack played here. The clubhouse has many photo's of celebrities and the course has

markers on the tee, that tells about celeb's that lived on the course or who had a connection to the course.

When I arrived at the course, I paid for the round and proceeded to give the starter my ticket. He informed me that we would be delayed 20 minutes. I learned from one of playing partners, that the course had not booked enough tee times for an outing that preceded us. I used the time to hit balls on the driving range and use the putting & chipping greens. I was disappointed with the driving range, as you had to hit off mats.

When our group finally teed off, we discovered that the group ahead of us was a fivesome, with one guy walking. On the first several holes, there was always two groups on the tee waiting to play. This logjam eventually broke up, but the first nine was painfully slow. The course is a beautiful tree lined (old style) course. No desert, but lots of bunkers and water hazards on 9 holes. I didn't care for the sand in the bunkers. It was very hard to get under the ball, even using a 65 degree wedge. The course has some nice views of the Las Vegas Strip. After we concluded our round we went to the clubhouse for a beer and a sandwich. The food and the service was excellent. On our way out, one of the employees ( Rob Cross) in the Pro Shop, asked me how I enjoyed the course. I told him that it was great, except for the bunkers. He asked me, if I remember specific holes. One that came to mind was the 17th a shorter par 4, I hit my second shot into the front bunker ( my bad for being there). My first attempt to get out of the bunker was unsuccessful. Swinging harder, I sculled my second attempt over the green. I consider myself a good sand player and seldom have any problems at home. The conversation with Rob ended with him saying he would talk to maintenance to look into this issue. Thanks Rob !

Classic old world charm!

A classic old course surrounded by 50s-60s era homes that were once home to some famous entertainers that played Vegas. Placards around the course tell the stories of some of the more famous folks and where they lived on the course. Play it at least if you want to learn about its place in history. But, don't think I'd go back. Course was overcrowded. Up to 3 groups on every par 3 waiting at the tee box. Greens were thin with lots of patches of invasive grasses and some badly damaged areas, too. Houses along the course looked either half abandoned or very tackily updated. Very strange.

convenience close to Las Vegas Strip

Had an overall great experience playing there. Very nice staff, great quality TaylorMade rental clubs and a course that is in great conditions.

Greens were rolling true. Very good value for the money.

I was also lucky playing with three retired gentlemen (locals) who made my round even more enjoyable.

Must Play in Vegas

A great little course, Tougher than it looks on the scorecard. A ton of history some of it printed on placards on the course. Site of Tiger's first PGA win so that is worth price of admission alone. Cool views of the strip. Some nice elevation changes make for a challenging walk.

Value for your money, worth playing

Was concerned with some recent reviews, however found the course to be in good condition, the greens rolled well and were fairly quick and the fairways in good state. Great layout and challenging course with some rather long par 3's. Felt very welcome upon arrival and the food and drink was good and reasonably priced. Be prepared to be put with other players, my playing partner and I were paired up with two lady golfers, a little surprised as they were beginners and we played from the tips. Overall we had a very enjoyable round and feel it was value for money $79 on golf now, with rental clubs $59 and would play here again. Thank you to all the staff.

Worth Playing

First time playing this course, glad I did. The course was beautiful and in very good shape. Fairways had roll, bunkers had sand and the greens were excellent and a little fast. Played with a couple who had played here before and it made for a very nice round. We finished in about 3 hours and 45 minutes which was nice, had a group ahead of us for the last 5 holes with a walker but he moved pretty good. The course has history and has some really nice old homes around the course, of course there were some run down ones also, don't understand why? Bring your camera and take a few pictures. Got something to eat before I went out, food was very good, also the staff that I encountered were all really nice. I got a good deal on Golfnow and will play this course again.
