Las Vegas National Golf Course
About
A traditional golf course in the land of faux waterfalls, shooting fountains and mountains, Las Vegas National Golf Club is actually part site of Tiger Woods' first win on the PGA Tour.
Las Vegas National was part of the rotation of the Las Vegas Invitational when Woods broke onto the Tour in 1996. Tiger actually won the Las Vegas Invitational (then a 90-hole, multi-course event) with a final round 64 on the private TPC at Summerlin track, erasing David Love III's four-stroke lead.
Average hackers will find a course with plenty of trees in the desert and five inventive par 3s that give National much of its character. This isn't desert golf. It's old school golf with palm trees and sand.
It is also very close to the Strip, just a few turns and about a 10-minute drive away. The area's built up around it with fast-food shops, but the Rat Pack era style remains alive within Las Vegas National's grounds.
"As you pull into the lot at Las Vegas National, the sense of the sixties is evident in the rectangular pastel colored stucco clubhouse that might have seemed modernistic back then, but now is a charming reminder of an architecturally dated style," TravelGolf.com writer Doug Saunders said.

Over-valued...compared to others in area & depending on rate paid.
A nice, old-style course with a decent, practice area. I went early hoping to practice some and warm up. Staff insisted on putting me out earlier than my scheduled time. Otherwise, the course was a 3/5 for maintenance and difficulty, but the value received would depend upon rate paid. I had a good rate that was a lot lower than they try to charge as their "regular rate"...which is too high, especially compared to comparable courses in the area.
Great course near the strip.
FIrst course I've played in Las Vegas, I thought it was a good course. I played with a vacationer that has played a dozen or so course and he liked the course as well.
Some of the par 3s were a little tough but good course.
A classic, fun to play
Great old school course right near downtown. Greens and fairways were emmaculate and the staff very friendly. Plenty challenging for us bogey golfers, but fair.
In short...a dirt track
Not a good value and not well maintained. Played Tuscany the next day and was like night and day. $80. for Tuscany vs. $100. for LV Nat'l.
The course eas in great shape. A bit over priced.
In comparison to other courses in the vacinity the course is well equipped. The driving range and practice putting areas are good. I do feel that the price is not matched to the course. I think that the course is a tad over priced.
Adequate course close to the strip
Good value, especially later in the day if you need to get in a links fix. Condition was not pristine, but functional. Location, twilight pricing and staff friendliness were ideal.
Reiterating Other Reviews
I also want to comment on the trash in the stream that runs through the course. I attempted to look for a ball near the stream and due to the amount of trash and the smell, I decided the golf gods could have it!
I understand there is a dispute on who needs to clean up this mess, but if I were in charge I would hire some teenagers on spring break to go in there and clean out the stream. Shut the course down for a few days and get that stuff out of there.
Your staff was very friendly and attentive, but I cannot recommend this course in it's current shape.
Old School Course
great course with old school feel. a bit narrow and challenging diagonals. Great for long hitters!! Greens were a bit bumpy. Staff is very friendly and bar was great.
Great course close to the strip!
Loved the course, it was in good condition. The fairways were good and the greens maintained nicely. Everything was great; however, I was a little disappointed with the amount of trash that was in the rivers/creek beds. Kind of an eye-sore. Loved the course though.
Classy old course
Neighborhood not necessarily the best, but the course is in nice condition. For out-of-towners, this seemed like a much better value than several other courses in the general area.
The course was in terrible condition
The fairways and greens were in terrible condition. We played 2 other golf courses during our trip to Vegas. The other courses were in great shape and almost 1/2 the $$$ we paid for this course.
Not worth the price.
I understand the history of the course plays a major role in the green fees, but it's easily a $35 - $45 course at best for condition and playability. Staff was nice and very courteous. The range was decent, but in my opinion as a visitor from out of state...I wasn't impressed.
... if you don't have wheels ...
This course is close to town. I had my car but, if you don't have a vehicle (or clubs; they have newer Callaway HX Clubs for rent) this is a fine course to play.
The back nine is a little more challanging than the front but I come from Tucson and I'm not accomstomed to 'tree lined' courses.
The greens were in great shape but the tee area and fairways seemed to be having difficulty growing in some pockets. Please don't be lazy: do your part to fill in divots and repair ball marks. For each that I repaired, I did the work for 4 other golfers. Maybe the reason for pocked fairways.
The hole position is mapped on each cart but don't forget to ask the starter which number as the flags don't indicate and the positions didn't seem to match the cart on some holes.
I had a fun time playing where 'The Rat Pack Played" but I will play elsewhere next time just for the variety that the game provides; that is if I have a car and clubs with me.
The course was as great as their website suggested
Enjoyed talking to the shop staff and starter--all were very friendly and professional---The course was in great shape and speed of play was fast.
A lot of trash around the creek beds.
We had a great time and since this is Vegas you expect to pay a little more. Here in San Diego we average around $50.00 a round for a good course. Las Vegas National was a decent course with average fairways but the greens were hard, you had virtually no ball control, if you hit the green you could never stop the ball from rolling off. All for a price of $70.00, I think you can do better else where.
Good cheap course if you are in need of some practice.
Course is decently maintained. It is a good muni course. Rough could use some serious attention but hey you get what you pay for. The afternoon price here is $34, can't really beat that. If you're looking for a course to practice the basics and have somewhat challenging greens this is the place.
friendly, great bloody mary's and so peaceful
This course is in great condition. Everyone is friendly and always willing to help. You can't play anywhere where there is so much history. The houses are historic. I also love the 18th hole where the home from the movie casino sits.
Classic, but challenging
This course is one of the few classic-style golf courses in Las Vegas. After playing desert courses with cookie-cutter neighborhoods throughout the city, most of them without much character, it was very refreshing to play a course where every tee shot and fairway shot required strategy. The course isn't particularly long, but it is tight and has plenty of water hazards. The greens are almost always terraced away from the fairway, with deep bunkers specifically placed in every fairway and near every green. This makes scrambling a challenge as well. The course has great character!
