Las Vegas National Golf Course
About
A traditional golf course in the land of faux waterfalls, shooting fountains and mountains, Las Vegas National Golf Club is actually part site of Tiger Woods' first win on the PGA Tour.
Las Vegas National was part of the rotation of the Las Vegas Invitational when Woods broke onto the Tour in 1996. Tiger actually won the Las Vegas Invitational (then a 90-hole, multi-course event) with a final round 64 on the private TPC at Summerlin track, erasing David Love III's four-stroke lead.
Average hackers will find a course with plenty of trees in the desert and five inventive par 3s that give National much of its character. This isn't desert golf. It's old school golf with palm trees and sand.
It is also very close to the Strip, just a few turns and about a 10-minute drive away. The area's built up around it with fast-food shops, but the Rat Pack era style remains alive within Las Vegas National's grounds.
"As you pull into the lot at Las Vegas National, the sense of the sixties is evident in the rectangular pastel colored stucco clubhouse that might have seemed modernistic back then, but now is a charming reminder of an architecturally dated style," TravelGolf.com writer Doug Saunders said.

Close to the strip, easy to find, cart comes to pick up you and your clubs
I play every year...the first course Tiger Woods won a tournament...Sammy Davis junior and the rat pack used to play here....enjoyable atmosphere and looking at LV strip from many holes quite wonderful
Friendly staff, but shabby course
Simple... Nice staff, even got me out early. The course is in rough shape though. I've been to far worse condition courses, but for the price they charge here they need to manicure this course better. C'mon take pride in what you do.
A great mix of holes.
The outside services staff is always great, the cart guys and the starters always make you feel welcome. National is the most underrated course in vegas whenever i bring friends out they always want to play it again.
Front 9 in bad shape, back is better
The course is in fairly rough shape on the front. Greens not well kept, tee boxes with dozens and dozens of divots/hacks. The course is nice because it is close to the strip, but that is all is has going for it. Staff were friendly, but no one was out there regulating play. We had to wait after every shot, took very long to play for a course not in great shape. For the price definitely not worth the money. Drive an extra 15-20 minutes north and play one of the new courses in better condition.
Poor condition - Overpriced
Played this course on Super Bowl Sunday.
Booked it online after reading about how the PGA and LPGA had events there in the past and Tiger Woods got his first PGA win here. Photos were nice.
Arrived at the golf course and practiced some chipping in a small area that was patchy at best. Tee boxes were chewed up. Fairways were patchy as well. Greens were a mix of brown and green with lots of ball marks. There was even a shopping cart in one of the bushes off the fairway.
We were around 3 hours for the front nine. Absolutely no marshall on the course to address this. The only thing that allowed me and my buddy to get done in 4.5 hours was that several groups in front of us bailed to go watch the Super Bowl.
We had played Stallion Mountain ($69), Bears Best ($106) and Painted Desert ($89) prior to this round and felt totally hosed at this course. They are living in the past here.
My wife and I enjoyed our round!
Have been playing for the last four years, belong to a private golf club in Louisiana, carry a 20 handicap from the whites, and have been playing Las Vegas for the last 3 years. My wife and I try to play three different courses on each trip to Vegas, one per day, and loved the entire experience at The National.
Course is an older course, reminds me of the typical 1970's era course, with predictable fairway bunkers, greenside bunkers, and well maintained and tricky but readable greens, that were in excellent shape.
Staff met us at bag drop, loaded clubs, and cart and clubs were waiting outside the pro-shop for our round. Starter got us off when we were ready, and for Sunday play, the golfers moved around the course pretty well. Saw the cart girl about every three holes. Of course the Vegas weather was also great, Chamber of Commerce day.
Enjoyed lunch during the round at the clubhouse, since tee sheet was not full due to Superbowl, glad we did, since the service and food was great there also.
Friendly staff, historical course, poor fairways and very poor greens.
I selected this course because of the history and I wanted to play it. Staff was very friendly and the course was easy to find. We were able to get out before our tee time ... much appreciated. While the course yardage appears short, in my opinion it plays hard. Fairways are narrow and missing them can be painful. Fairways, the few times I hit them, were uneven and good lies never to be found. Greens very rough and choppy. They have a serious mud hen/goose problem. Lots of water for suicidal golf balls. Garbage collected along road barriers (my ball was frequently trying to escape me).
Rundown
For the money, this is a poor course. There is garbage lying in the fairways and water hazards. This course was the same price as TPC Vegas and doesn't even compare. It might have been a Couse to be reckoned with 40 years ago, but needs a major facelift and priced at $50! Or less. Clubhouse is old and showing its age as well
Nice traditional layout, and history
Nice course with great Las Vegas and PGA history. Needs a little updating and more general care.
Nicely set bunkers make it a challenge,
The Las Vegas national is a great course to play, even though its winter time and it was freezing we had a blast at the course. Some of the bunkers in front of the holes make it pretty challenging so be on point with your approach. Our tee time was at 11:30 and at 11:30 we tee'd off. i liked the pace of play here, nobody was pressuring us and we were not pressuring the group ahead either. The staff was very nice and friendly, I will surely come back to see the course when the grass is green since we played in the winter time there were some dormant grass, but it actually looks beautiful out there. The Las Vegas national is my new favorite course while I'm in Vegas and will be recommending this course to my other buddies.
Overall, Good!
Still a very good course dispite not being once what it was. Wonderful staff, very polite and helpful, they certainly add to the experience. Greens are in very condition, fairways are reasonable and for the price, it's very good.
Fun course.
Had a great time here. It is a bit like taking a step back in time as all the home around the course a very old.
Great course with a hint of the pro past quality.
Nice staff always friendly, great course for the golfer that does not like to play 5 hours or over. Some challenging pro level holes. One of my top 3 for the quality, friendly staff and a great price. Take advantage of the golf specials. Great food at moderate prices in the club house.
Very close to the Strip
Very convenient if you stay on the Strip - a $15 taxi ride. Course ok for mid to high handicappers - good golfers would find it a little disappointing. Great staff and overall reasonable value.
Very very BEST !
Very interesting!
In excellent condition!
I'm going to play again.
Good course near the LV Strip
This was my first real round of golf and I really enjoyed playing here. Its proximity to the Las Vegas Strip and my hotel made it an easy decision for me to come here. As for the round itself, I enjoyed the course for its beginner-friendliness. There were only two or three holes where I felt nervous about crossing a hazard to reach a fairway and continue my round. The course itself is very well maintained although there were numerous geese on the last three holes and I had to dodge them. Course staff was very friendly, helpful, and patient.
A bit pricy for winter conditions
Smart golf is the key to scoring well. Smaller clubs on short par 4 holes and an extra club to clear the many greenside bunkers would help the average player. I played "winter rules" because of the many bare spots on the course, something I don't normally do. Many of the fairways are tight because of lakes and trees, but smart course management can keep you out of major trouble most of the time.
Very challenging course
I almost did not play this course after reading a review that said weeds were everywhere. Glad i took my brothers advice and played here. Although we played from the back tee's we enjoyed the course and the round. I am not used to hitting 3 and 5 woods into 230 and 250 yard par 3's as most were from the back tees. The course looked in great shape from tee to greens. The staff was excellent and the weather was too ( in the 70"s). Some the holes where there was water, could not be seen and I hit into 3 of them. Some homes around the course were in need of renovations but it's not the courses fault. I like seeing tree lined fairways as opposed to the desert you see in most Vegas courses. You get the feel of the Northwest or California. It was pointed out to me that the movie Casino was filmed at the home off the 18th fairway. I remember that house in the movie and the fairway where the plane landed. I would definitely like to play this course again.
Great course
Great historic old style course, lots of golf history
Great course
Great course the conditioning was good with quick greens. Not a lot of sand in the bunkers and the neighbourhood around the course was sketchy.
