Windy Day in Summerlin
We played Highland Falls on a recent golf outing in Las Vegas. The course is in Summerlin, an easy 30 minute drive from the strip. Greens fees were around $80, which is very reasonable for the Vegas area.
Similar to many other courses in Las Vegas, Highland Falls winds through a master planned community. There are no areas where two fairways run side by side. Highland falls is laid out on a slope, with almost 400’ of elevation change from the highest to lowest point on the course. This means holes run up and down hill. The design takes this into account avoiding long par 4s that run uphill. The 14th tee features an outstanding view of the Las Vegas valley. The fairways are wide enough to accommodate the occasional wayward drive. The greens are generally large and have some not-so-subtle slopes that keep putting interesting.
The course conditions were good for our round, though the greens had recently been punched. The fairways were in good condition. Winds in the 15-30 mph range on the day we played made the course play a little tougher. Pace of play was OK, though we had to wait for the group ahead of us on almost every shot.
The staff was helpful and the clubhouse has a nice pro shop and restaurant. Overall, our group enjoyed the day at Highland Falls enough that we are planning to return to this course on our next trip.
Great views, nice layout
Highland Falls in Summerlin has a nice layout with great mountain and Las Vegas Strip views. GolfNow rate was the nonresident so I could have done better having my son, a Clark County resident, get the rounds. Offline drives are saved on most holes with slopes sending the ball toward the fairway.
Thanks for coming and playing at Highland Falls! We're glad you enjoyed the views. Hope to have you back soon to give us a shot at that 5th star!
Nice layout
Not too much trouble
It was extremely windy so ball wouldn't stay on green
Course is in descent shape...I would definitely play again
That's Las Vegas for you! Hope to have you back when it's not so windy.
Looking forward to having you back!
Nice views and challenging layout. White tees plenty of challenge for a 5-6 handicap player.
Thank you for the 4 star review and great feedback.
Pleasant round to start a vacation!
Booked to play the sister course Highland Falls, got bumped to Palm Valley as there was a junior tournament being held at Highland Falls...good call as we easily finished (at Palm Valley) whereas if we played at HF we would not have completed the round.
Course was in good shape, greens were great...staff friendly and no wait...so all good. We'll play there again!
Thank you for the kind words Kevin! We hope to see you back soon to get a chance to earn that 5th star!
Thank you for the 5 star rating!
Really nice layout...
First review of any golf course in the United States, but I feel that I've played enough to consider writing a opinion. Great experience from park lot to playing a wonderful round of golf and back to parking lot - everyone was very welcoming and friendly. I can honestly say that this is one of the very few golf courses that I could play everyday. The layout is very user friendly and every tee box/fairway is a nice test and at the same time fair, and greens are very sharp.
Thank you for choosing us as your first review! We are glad you had a good time and thank you for the positive feedback!
Thank you for the 5 star rating!
Awesome view on 14
The 14 hole is the signature view hole. Greens are excellent, fairways in very good condition. Driving range is a little lacking. I would recommend.
Thanks for playing! 14 is a beauty!
Beautiful course with very friendly staff. Cant wait to play it again.
Looking forward to having you back! Thanks for the 5 stars!
Spectacular views of Vegas
Being winter, the course is in surprisingly good condition. The greens are fast with lots of undulations. The views of the Strip are great, especially from 14th tee.
Thank you for the complimentary feedback!
Does a golfer decide where the Pins go and take into consideration the course conditions???
The experience of playing this course could be improved in my opinion (and my partner's) if the person who places the pins actually keeps in mind that many of the greens seem to be rock hard and don't hold a shot. Therefore, if it's an elevated green as they almost all are and you put the pin within about 10 feet of the front, how in the heck is a golfer supposed to have a fair chance of getting close. I hit 8 iron, 9 iron and even wedges that would just roll all the way to back of green and sometimes even off and into the bunkers which were almost always moist and hard packed. Some greens are so hard that shots don't even leave a ball mark. Then, on one hole 530+ yds, the pin was placed on a precipice so that if your putt goes more than three feet beyond the hole, it rolls another forty feet down instead of stopping. Seemed sadistic but not unusual. for some reason in Las Vegas, as if course superintendents are terrified of anyone having fair chance to make pars or occasional birdie.
Thank you for taking the time to leave some honest feedback. Although fast, hard greens are a common characteristic of a desert course, we certainly never want that to be something that would impact your golf experience in a negative way. We apologize for your displeasure in the pin locations and your feedback has been noted.
Very Nice Course
Very nice course with some great views of the mountains and Las Vegas. The course was in great shape as I have found with most Del Webb courses I have played. We played the round in under 4 hours which is great. The whole course was in excellent shape. Also has very nice practice facilities. I highly recommend this course. I might also say that a couple of holes require that you have played the course before, I was lucky and played with someone that plays the course a few times a week.
Highland Falls
This course will test you entire golf game arsenal...play smart and driving the ball long isn’t always the best play...Ball placement is key when hitting fairways and greens. Greens will feel fast and will also make you feel like your ball is running across sand! Beautiful scenery, amazing water holes, and breathtaking views of mountains and the Las Vegas strip.
Pleased
Overall great time Only negative was the greens. A bit on the sandy side. Staff was terrific. Round took 3:45. Started out round right on time
Wonerful Course
This course is truly a hidden gem. Spectacular views of the valley, city and mountains. The fairways are both fun and challenging. Some of the holes are very unique which adds to the fun. I really enjoyed my round of golf.
Thank you so very much for coming and playing! We appreciate the kind feedback. The old saying is; if you can't play golf in the wind then you can't play golf in Vegas! We look forward to having you back!
