Generally a good course
I generally enjoy this course on a regular basis. The two nines are vastly different. And the facility is really good. Today, I wish I had known about the seeding of the driving range tee ahead of time. And recent too dressing of the greens. And the crazy punching of the 18th fairway. I understand the need for that stuff. I would just like to know ahead of time.
NOT a misunderstanding!!
About two months ago I gave this course the best rating I could give it five stars on everything and I noticed that they had a lake there that was full of big bluegill and bass! The next time I decided to drive an hour to play there, I brought my teenaged son because he loves to fish! We had an awesome time fishing between the two 9s. The next time, about a month ago the owner asked me if I had permission to fish there and I thought I had from a resident who lives in the neighborhood. Johnny explained to me that HE owned that property but he was understanding and agreed to allow us to fish there if I simply asked before I came. So I asked on the phone yesterday before I came to Piankatank today. I was told by Stephen that it was no problem for us to fish. I even ran into the owner when I got to the course and mentioned to him that I had spoken to Stephen the day before about my son and I fishing today and he again said he had no problem with it! So it was a big surprise for us to be approached by Golf Course staff after my son and I had been fishing for about 45 minutes, and told to get off the property!! Maybe Johnny is just spineless and didn't want to say he'd changed his mind, but this was dead wrong!!! I could care less about me, but when you ruin my kid's day, I've got a problem with that!!!
Jewel of a course!!
Except for the pace of play, this was a great experience!!
Surprise!! Awesome course!!!
I enjoyed this course this time even more than the last time, which was my first time playing here.
Bachelor Party Fail!
Booked tee time for a bachelor party. Followed up to confirm tee time by phone. Received email confirmation of tee time. Arrived to be told they had no record of our tee time and we couldn't play. Day was saved by Golden Eagle in Irvington. Have a backup plan for Piankatank.
Amazing surprise!!!
I really wish I had played this course a long time ago because I will be back over and over again! It is strange that the 2 nines are so different from each other but maybe that is part of why I enjoyed it so much! They definitely need to advertise more!
WORTH THE DRIVE
This course is fun, like a roller coaster! The front nine weaves through the woods, and the back nine rolls through old farm land. The twelfth and thirteenth holes roll alongside the beautiful Piankatank river, The course was in immaculate shape, and the rough was just deep enough to keep things interesting. John, the club pro/manager and the staff are wonderful. The course is about and hour from Williamsburg, and well worth the drive.
A good playable course, not to hard, to easy.
I have played the course for several years and I love it each and every time .
Nice greens
The front nine was a nice tight challenge. The back nine was more forgiving. Greens rolled nicely. Overall condition of the course was good. A good value and nice course to play. Only complaint was pace of play.
Nice course, definitely worth playing.
The was a fun and challenging course to play. The course conditions were good for this time of year. The front nine has a lot of elevation changes, while the back 9 is flat with some of the holes along the river. This was my first time playing the course, so this added some strokes due to lack of course knowledge, If you are staying in Williamsburg, It is worth the trip to play this course.
Ideal playing conditions
Greens were in excellent shape. Tee boxes were smaller than what I am used too. Lot of soft spots in fairways which required Cart Path Only
Great layout, challenging fun
Great different layout between nines. Good condition considering the weather lately. Fairways had decent grass base , bunkers need some attention but were better than most I have seen lately. Front nine is hilly target golf. Course knowledge or a range finder invaluable to how far to hit shots. Back nine flat with some beautiful holes along river. Cart path only but Course seems to drain well with some low wet areas. Fun course. Good practice area, wild putting green but does mimic a few places you can be in if you hit it in the wrong place. # 16 pin placement was a bit ridiculous, less then a flag length from left edge on a 100 ft wide green. Well worth the drive. Did not sample the grill as Urbanna is close by on the way back and Oysters were calling
