Barony at Port Royal Golf Club
About
The Barony Course at Port Royal Golf Club constitutes 18 of this well-known island facility's 54 holes.
Playing to just 6,543 yards from the gold tees, Barony is a very enjoyable course for all skill levels. The back nine in particular is a fine mix of long and short holes. Like its sister courses at Port Royal, Barony begins and ends at the club's beautiful Antebellum-style clubhouse.
From the tee, many of the holes on Barony appear to be relatively open. But as you approach the green the real challenge of the course becomes clear. The greens are small and protected by deep bunkers and Bermuda rough, demanding an excellent touch with the medium and short irons. This is a course where accuracy, not length is the key factor.

Barony - Very Small Greens
This was a very changeling course due to the number of sand traps around the greens and the size of the greens them self. Some of my approach shots were good but they found the edges of the greens and some sand traps. I was able to record 25 putts for the 18 holes played due to some great chipping and use of the putter.
Overall the course was in transition and some of the fairways were in need of some grass. Overall I would recommend this course if you want a good changeling course.
Water me...
There are a lot of great things about this course, including the location, layout, pro shop staff, and clubhouse. Unfortunately, the condition of the course was really bad. We have played other courses on the island, and have not experienced this problem. This is truly a problem with Barony. They also need a marshall to assist with pace of play.
Needs more staff.
Disappointed as the pace of play was very slow.
2 groups of young men in front of us. Had to wait 5-15 min on each hole. No marshall in site to get them to speed up.
Took 4.5 hours to finish and not because of us.
Fairways greens on front brown and hard needed watering badly
Back nine was better
Great condition
Very nice, challenging course, in great shape. Definite two thumbs up, and plan to play here in the future!!
Such a let down
Played this course many times. It’s run down, the tee boxes and fairways are beat up. The pace of play was terrible and the ranger wouldn’t do a thing about it. Just an all around let down
Not Playing Here Again
I know the high end courses on the island over-seed and this course doesn't. But charging over $100 for those conditions is criminal. It didn't help upon finishing I forgot my rangefinder on my cart and when I returned the next day none of the cart guys found it??? This isn't a private club where this wouldn't have happened, but if you want to portray yourself as a reputable resort course this kind of behavior by your front staff doesn't cut it.
Golf
Front 9 in awful shape fairways and greens needed watering lots of bare spots back 9 a lot better facilities were very good course in need of maintenance
Not worth the money
Have played the course 3 times this month and it is in good shape and a very good value . Back nine in very good shape esp the greens . Area around the greens and tee boxes could use some work . Only disappointment was as we were ready to tee off 2 JPGA started in front of us , not on the tee sheet , and caused us to have a 5 hour round . Overall though , enjoy playing both Barony and Robbers Row
