Barony at Port Royal Golf Club
About
The Barony Course at Port Royal Golf Club constitutes 18 of this well-known island facility's 54 holes.
Playing to just 6,543 yards from the gold tees, Barony is a very enjoyable course for all skill levels. The back nine in particular is a fine mix of long and short holes. Like its sister courses at Port Royal, Barony begins and ends at the club's beautiful Antebellum-style clubhouse.
From the tee, many of the holes on Barony appear to be relatively open. But as you approach the green the real challenge of the course becomes clear. The greens are small and protected by deep bunkers and Bermuda rough, demanding an excellent touch with the medium and short irons. This is a course where accuracy, not length is the key factor.

Barony course Photo submitted by JIMMYLAW77 on 01/10/2018
Where are the gators?
Vacationing on the Island, I had a chance to play Port Royal Barony. I got to the course a little early and had time to hit the range. After about 15 minutes of warmup, I headed to the first tee. Unfortunately, the women's league had started to tee off (a little early). They were gracious enough to let me pass and start my round on the 2nd hole. I was able to play all 18 holes in about 3 1/2 hours. I was disappointed that there was no GPS in the carts and no gators on the course. Maybe next time...
Good Layout and Conditions
We have played here about 6 times over the last few months. We enjoy the layout, conditions, and pace of play. Will return.
Pretty good overall
Pace was slow due to group in front being very new to golf. They also had no golf etiquette knowledge - so playing through was not an option. No Marshall either. Course just fine. Staff just fine.
Great Course
I absolutely loved playing this course. Fairways are in great condition, and the greens are in near perfect condition. Great layout with some challenging holes. The greens are well guarded by bunkers, making your approach shots to be strategically placed. Highly recommended and look forward to playing it again.
GREAT value
Second time through the full 18 on this course, and really enjoyed the round. The front 9 and back 9 are very different, with my preference being the back 9. Maybe I am crazy, but the fairways and greens seem to be much nicer back there.
Overall you can expect good conditions. The fairways are greening up nicely, but a tad thin in some spots (it's only March). Greens were in good shape and nicely maintained. Trees come into play on many holes, and guard the greens pretty well.
Facilities are excellent, practice area is probably the largest I have seen featuring driving range, short area, putting green and 3-hole practice loop! Will be back to play again in a month.
Course in great shape, best on course toilet I have ever used. Friendly, helpful saff. Thoroughly enjoyed our day.
Enjoyed the experience on a beautiful day. Everybody was great.
Spring training
Waited on EVERY HOLE! Over 4 1/2 hrs to play 18, finished in twilight. Not a ranger in sight, 3 groups on some holes on back 9. Course played ok, greens very slow. Course needs a little TLC.
Ron's review
Today was the first time I played the Barony course. I loved the layout of the course. Especially the tunnels that I had to drive through to get to the tee boxes. I didn't see any alligators (disappointing), but saw plenty of other wildlife. The greens rolled true. The staff was very friendly. I would suggest in cart GPS for future golf outings.
Poor fairways and thin rough
The fairways were brown, thin and hard to hit from.-like hitting on pavement. Greens were in decent shape and putted true. Rough was very thin also and green side chip shots were impossible. Course design ok but every green had bunkers guarding the front left and right side. Every hole was similar- not too much creativity in design.
