About

The Barony Course at Port Royal Golf Club constitutes 18 of this well-known island facility's 54 holes.

Playing to just 6,543 yards from the gold tees, Barony is a very enjoyable course for all skill levels. The back nine in particular is a fine mix of long and short holes. Like its sister courses at Port Royal, Barony begins and ends at the club's beautiful Antebellum-style clubhouse.

From the tee, many of the holes on Barony appear to be relatively open. But as you approach the green the real challenge of the course becomes clear. The greens are small and protected by deep bunkers and Bermuda rough, demanding an excellent touch with the medium and short irons. This is a course where accuracy, not length is the key factor.

Club needs a lot of attention

Have played this course in prior years. Currently I think that the emphasis is on getting as many rounds in without spending any money on the course period. The course including the greens shows that the owners are milking the place for what ever it is worth. Poor playing conditions and a high price point. Played two other courses on the Island which were in great condition. Sad

Hosting a car show

They were setting up for a car show. We were not warned when booking. Parking was a mess. Driving range and practice green were closed. Cart person said she didn’t have sandwiches today, started with some hotdogs, but ran out. The group in front of us was very slow. A person in a cart who appeared to be a marshal drove by us twice and waved. Could be just a bad day. Liked the layout and will try again.

Course in great shape. Greens roll smooth and quick. Too many bunkers surrounding the greens complexes. Some of the greens are just too small. Some of the hazards need to be marked with stakes especially hole 11 middle of the fairway. Would play the course again.

Good layout slow greens

I may just be used to slicker greens at home but it seemed all the public greens in Hilton head are painfully slow. That said I liked the layout and it’s a very fair course.

Loved this course!

My wife & I played this beautiful course and loved it! Fun layout that was definitely challenging. A shot making course that penalizes a bad shot. Pace of play was not good as the course starts every 4 minutes … but I will definitely play this course again!
