Holes 18
Type Resort
Par 72
Length 6543 yards
Slope 137
Rating 71.9

The Barony Course at Port Royal Golf Club constitutes 18 of this well-known island facility's 54 holes.

Playing to just 6,543 yards from the gold tees, Barony is a very enjoyable course for all skill levels. The back nine in particular is a fine mix of long and short holes. Like its sister courses at Port Royal, Barony begins and ends at the club's beautiful Antebellum-style clubhouse.

From the tee, many of the holes on Barony appear to be relatively open. But as you approach the green the real challenge of the course becomes clear. The greens are small and protected by deep bunkers and Bermuda rough, demanding an excellent touch with the medium and short irons. This is a course where accuracy, not length is the key factor.

enjoyable but rushed

enjoyed course the first time last year so made a point of returning this year. preferred layout of front 9 over back 9. staff is great except on course rangers. though we had no group in front or behind us, ranger consistently interrupted our round advising us to speed up our pace of play even though we played at a 4:15 pace with an 820 am tee time. otherwise would highly recommend this course in HHI

Great Value! Great Shape. Played from the Blue's.

Super value. Tee boxes really nice shape. Fairways just awesome. Like hitting off a mat. Greens fair (bit slow for my taste) rolled nicely. Traps needed a fresh raking and only reason not giving a 5 out of 5. No worries. Just needed to feel with our feet each one out to determine if that one was hard packed sand or if it had been turned over and was softer. That's a small thing when the overall experience was a complete joy. Teed off as a twosome at 2;20 on a Sunday and played in 3hrs 30mins! THAT"S how golf is meant to be played. Will play again! Fair and fun layout.

Nice Course

I enjoyed the course, my only criticism being that a few of the tee boxes seemed a bit weedy and. It well manicured. Aside from that the golf was challenging but not painful and I was able to play alone so the pace of play was excellent.

Over priced

First time out on this course. Played Barony on 8/2/22. The first 9 holes were extremely boring, nothing special. Course conditions were not great. Greens rolled ok, slightly bumpy in a few spots. The back 9 was almost interesting to play. I almost had to think on a few tee boxes. Overall, it is a grip it and rip it course. WAY over priced though. I payed just shy of $80 to play here and felt ripped off after a couple holes of play. On a positive note, I don't believe you'll find a friendlier staff anywhere. The starter and all the guys around the clubhouse are awesome. Unfortunately, I will not be back due to the ridiculous price tag on this track. I'd pay $40 to play here, but not $80.

Hilton Head Classic

I’ve been playing here for as long as I can remember and the course is in great condition. Took my wife golfing for the first time here and the staff was very happy to help us out with being alone. Nice spot. Well worth the trip.

Port Royal-Barony 7/21/22

This is the best run, best conditioned public club on HHI. I’ve played here several times in the last few years and I’ve never been disappointed. Tees are good. Fairways are very good. Greens are very good except for a few spots but they don’t put the flag near them. Barony is in stellar condition. And bonus points for everyone because they were honest about the condition of Robbers Row. Recent aeration, big holes, lots of sand. Should be pristine by Labor Day. John and Jay in the clubhouse are always cool. Creashia in the bar was super sweet. And outside, Bryant was helpful and kept things moving even in the oppressive heat. I would give Port Royal 10 stars if I could. See y’all again in October.

Thanks. Todd from Atlanta
