About
The Barony Course at Port Royal Golf Club constitutes 18 of this well-known island facility's 54 holes.
Playing to just 6,543 yards from the gold tees, Barony is a very enjoyable course for all skill levels. The back nine in particular is a fine mix of long and short holes. Like its sister courses at Port Royal, Barony begins and ends at the club's beautiful Antebellum-style clubhouse.
From the tee, many of the holes on Barony appear to be relatively open. But as you approach the green the real challenge of the course becomes clear. The greens are small and protected by deep bunkers and Bermuda rough, demanding an excellent touch with the medium and short irons. This is a course where accuracy, not length is the key factor.

Great Setup
Overall exactly what you’d want from a course. Quick/professional staff, well managed course, in great condition. Will be back for sure
Course needs maintenance
A lot of greens and tee boxes not in great shape. Expected better for Hilton Head Island. Course layout is great. Pace of play was good. Staff is friendly. Driving range only gave you around 4 feet of depth to hit from. Tee boxes were very patchy and beat up.

1st time playing in Hilton Head
The course wasn’t in the best shape. The tee boxes were beat up and the greens were spotty and fuzzy. They had two different types of grass in them it appeared. Great course layout, a bit challenging. Not t a great value for the price. That’s staff great from the club house to the cart staff.

Greens were recently aerated. No advanced notice. Charged full price for virtually unputtable greens.

Decent course
The course was average in my opinion. The layout was good but they had just done a core aeration which was unfortunate because that was not communicated to me at the time of the booking. The weather didn’t cooperate either so was not able to get in a full 18. We also had another group insert themselves in front of us on the back nine which slowed down play.

The course was nice. Tee boxes were not in very good shape but the course overall was good. Great lay out. Only complaint was there was little water to drink on the course at it was over 90 degrees. I would hope for better.
Robbers Row yes Barony No
Play Barony course today because Roberts Row (which is well maintained)just been aerated so we thought we’d give it a try. The course is really in very mediocre shape and the greens on the front nine are eaten up .
Fir the money, there are many other better places to play.
They needcto start taking care of that course.

Probably the time of the year,
We played on a day when the temperatures were in the 90’s. We thought about playing more expensive courses at Sea Pines Plantation, but figured all the courses would have some stress burn this time of the year. All in all, we had a good time, but for $135 per person, we thought the course would have been in better condition. The staff was awesome and they truly went out of their way to ensure the experience was great - so kudos to them.

Good layout
Aesthetically pleasing course. Challenging but not so hard for someone that is on vacation just looking for some fun on the golf course
