About

Holes 18
Type Resort
Par 72
Length 6543 yards
Slope 137
Rating 71.9

The Barony Course at Port Royal Golf Club constitutes 18 of this well-known island facility's 54 holes.

Playing to just 6,543 yards from the gold tees, Barony is a very enjoyable course for all skill levels. The back nine in particular is a fine mix of long and short holes. Like its sister courses at Port Royal, Barony begins and ends at the club's beautiful Antebellum-style clubhouse.

From the tee, many of the holes on Barony appear to be relatively open. But as you approach the green the real challenge of the course becomes clear. The greens are small and protected by deep bunkers and Bermuda rough, demanding an excellent touch with the medium and short irons. This is a course where accuracy, not length is the key factor.

Great but BYO

Course is in good shape. Folks there are extremely nice and thoughtful. Only issue — and hopefully temporary — was no drinks (Gatorade, etc) were available for purchase anywhere before the round. 90 degrees and hi humidity but golf shop had no drinks available and clubhouse wasn’t open in the AM. Course only had one golf cart girl who was working both courses so we only saw here once in our round. Barony course does not arrive at the clubhouse at the turn so what you have when you go to the #1 tee is all you get and since golf shop has no drinks, BYO.

Nice round of golf

Friendly staff. Was looking for pro shop, went there and when I came back , my bag etc already on the buggy. Was playing alone, nobody around. Could play without waiting. Weather very nice. Nice course. Well maintained. In urban area, so you must be aware of that.

Nice round of golf

Nice course, challenges for all plaers. Not busy when I played, so had the course to myself. Very friendly staff, went to the pro shop and when I came back they had put my set on the cart and all prepared. And the same when I came back. Course was in excellent condition

Great round with my dad

Overall great experience; a few rough spots on greens likely from heat in August.

Good Place to play

Course was in good condition. Tee time was on time. Played with my 17 yr old daughter on a junior rate (not shown on-line).

Enjoy this course and play every year. The challenge with this course all is ball placement, not distance. Caught a group of recreational golfers playing very slow. They tried and we were a twosome so some tolerance for vacation golf. Staff and crew very friendly and helpful. Overall a good experience.

BAD GREENS

Been here many times...over last 25 yrs...worst shape I have ever seen...greens are slow with bad spots...patchy grass..

Asking 100 00 is ludicrous and not the rapper...worth maybe 40...

Fairways were good...

Young hs worker was great...older attendants did not soeak..guess who I tipped..

D O NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY

Scenic and a fair test of skills

I really enjoyed the layout. There was a variety of scenery with some residential and some natural settings. The greens were still a little bumpy from earlier aeration but still rolled fairly true. I did have a close encounter with a gator on the 13'th hole while looking for a playing partners ball - stay away from the high grasses left of the bunker near the green. Look forward to playing again next time at Hilton Head.
