Oyster Reef features elevated tees and lush fairways lined by thick stands of live oak and pine. Numerous doglegs accented by strategically located mounds and fairway bunkers, call for well-planned tee shots. Varying sizes of greens with well-defined tiers place a premium on precise approach shots.

The par-3 sixth hole, which plays 192 yards from the back tees to a green set against a backdrop of Port Royal Sound, is one of the most visually spectacular holes on Hilton Head. Oyster Reef is now a semi-private member-owned club with a limited number of tee times for guest play,

The carefully-maintained facility, designed by noted course architect Rees Jones, continues to be a favorite destination for serious golfers as well as a favorite with locals.

Overcharged/ overrated

The front is not worth 1/3 of the price charged but the back 9 has a different fairway/greens conditions - I would should be 2/3 of the price charged.

I found out to not book using Golfnow. I would much less.

Be upfront with guests

They spread a bunch of sand over every green on the course. They did not tell us when we checked in for 7:40am tee time. It was still damp from the morning dew so you literally were putting through what felt like a wet bunker. Having to constantly wipe off putter and clothing, I would have rather played a course that just aerated and paid 1/2 the price and probably had just as good or better conditions/experience. Also, they have a temporary green on Par 5 #9. They never mentioned that at all. Not the pro shop or starter. Lastly, we were a twosome and had a foursome in front of us who we caught after one hole. We were on pace for a 5+Hr round. They never let us play through and a Starter didn’t address it until we made the turn and they told them to wait on 10# tee. I loved this course 3-4yrs ago. It has gone downhill quickly.

Greens

The greens were aerated and very slow. The sand on the greens was not raked in properly. The 9th green was temporary and we were not told. Charging $120 for a course in this condition is taking advantage of the patrons. The refreshment cart lady told us she would see us on the course but did not appear in the 3 hours 40 minutes of play!

Boring

It was like hitting balls on a range because of the flat terrain. No uphill, downhill, above and below the feet lies unless a shot was bad. Front nine fairways are unnaturally narrow, back nine were great, but overall value for the money is not there

Great Experience

This was our 2nd time playing Oyster Reef. We love the course, the amenities and the staff. Cynthia Ford, their cart girl is AMAZING! She served drinks quickly and ensured a stop for beverages wouldn’t hold up play. Thanks for making our day so enjoyable, Cyn!

Excellent service and course

Arrived at the course and their computer did not have my tee time even though I had the confirmation from GolfNow. They solved the problem and got me out first as a single - I played in 2.5 hours - excellent customer service for which I was thankful as the course was very busy that day. Course was beautiful -front nine greens were a little sandy - back nine greens were perfect - course has interesting holes - some tree line fairways with doglegs others more wide open and 2 beautiful par 3’s - highly recommend playing it.

Disappointed

Some greens and surrounds not in good condition. One green was temporary. Some fairways excellent, others not so much.
