Oyster Reef Golf Course
About
Oyster Reef features elevated tees and lush fairways lined by thick stands of live oak and pine. Numerous doglegs accented by strategically located mounds and fairway bunkers, call for well-planned tee shots. Varying sizes of greens with well-defined tiers place a premium on precise approach shots.
The par-3 sixth hole, which plays 192 yards from the back tees to a green set against a backdrop of Port Royal Sound, is one of the most visually spectacular holes on Hilton Head. Oyster Reef is now a semi-private member-owned club with a limited number of tee times for guest play,
The carefully-maintained facility, designed by noted course architect Rees Jones, continues to be a favorite destination for serious golfers as well as a favorite with locals.

Love the course
Good layout and very good condition. Very slow play by a group in front lead to backup on back nine.
Oyster Reef Nice Track
We had a mid-day tee time and the weather was perfect (not too hot). The course is in excellent conditions. Lots of sand traps in the fairways and green side. Lots of doglegs - both right and left. Will play again.
Never been disappointed by Oyster Reef GC!
I've been going down to HHI for a Spring vacation for over 15 years and Oyster Reef is a golf course that has never disappointed me. The course is always in great shape and the staff is always friendly and helpful. And...(unlike a few other unnamed GC's)...I feel it's a good value for my golfing dollars!
Johnny millar
Very nice layout off blue ran out of fairway on some holes but that’s due to not knowing the course much better than robbers row
Consistently Good
This is a course which is always on the list when we play golf in Hilton Head.
Course is always in great shape and is no pushover. Some challenging holes keep you on your toes here.
Good track, horrible staff
I planned a golf outing here for a friend bachelor party. We made the tee times several months in advance, and we were looking for a course on Hilton Head that was nice, but not super expensive. This seemed to fit. When calling them to talk about renting clubs, we were told they don't put aside clubs in advance, and they only had 8 rental sets. I called twice and was mostly brushed off the phone, and they said they would have the pro call me back, which he didn't. The third time I called I got the pro on the phone, and he recommended a guy in Hilton head to rent clubs from. That was a smooth experience, and the guy Charlie who did the club rentals would drop them off and pick them up from course. I would recommend Charlie for other golf experiences down there, great guy. I called to set up a long drive and closest to the pin contest for our groups, and again got the very nonchalant attitude of "yeah we can probably do that, just show up that day and mention it" or "email the pro". So I emailed him, no response, and followed up again and his response was " We can definitely do that". And from that I could tell it was going to be an ad hoc last minute thing they would try and put together, which by no means is the end of the world, but just more so spoke to how they handle things there. Very much a "we'll figure it out" type attitude.
Coming from Savannah took a little longer than expected, but we still arrived a half hour in advance of our tee times. We had the clubs on the carts, but they were a few carts short. Again, not the end of the world, I understand that stuff can happen. But we saw groups that were seemingly behind us on the tee sheet set up with carts so I was confused. I went in to the pro shop to ask, and again got the shoulder shrug and was told "yeah nothing we can do. We're waiting on people to finish to give you their carts, but not sure when that will be". I mentioned it looked like groups behind us had them, and was told I should talk to the starter. So I went out to talk to him, and said "we should be teeing off now no?" And he responded "I agree with you" as if to imply it was our fault. There is literally 2 groups with 4 carts on the first tee, who's tee times were behind us, and I simply said I don't understand why groups behind us would get carts and we have to wait. He said I should talk to the pro shop. I mentioned that they said come talk to you, and he said again go talk to them. It was pretty clear they just didn't want to have those two groups get mad at them as they were couples, and figured let's just screw over the guys on the bachelor party. The starter was just one of those older grumpy guys who clearly takes his job way to seriously and just hates anyone who's younger. Just a complete jerk. So they had 2 groups go out ahead of us, and we waited for a cart to get there. When I rolled around to the first tee he said to the other guys in my group "yeah your buddy thinks he knows everything huh". What does that even mean? I asked why groups behind us were getting carts before us and you don't have a good answer for it: seems like common sense to me. I would just give groups with earlier tee times the carts so things run on time. I'm not a rocket scientist but that would seem to work. "There's absolutely nothing I can do". Sure you can, you just don't want to. Obviously there was no mention of the long drive or closest to the pin. Minor detail that we didn't care all that much about, but just shows they didn't really care. Cart lady finally got to us on the 9th hole, but basically was absent the whole time.
We enjoyed the course. Pretty solid condition and a fun track. By this review it probably seems like I'm some pretentious Golf guy, but I've actually never written a review about anything before, never sent food back at a restaurant, in general don't complain about anything. But $130 per person should get you more than a "not our problem, it is what it is" type attitude. Probably better options on the island.

By this review it probably seems like I'm some pretentious Golf hardo, but I've actually never written a review about anything before, never sent food back at a restaurant, in general don't complain about anything. But $130 per person should get you more than a "not our problem, it is what it is" type attitude. Probably better options on the island. I only write this so anyone looking to play here gets there way earlier to make sure they get set up. Otherwise you'll just be standing around waiting for things to get figured out like we were.
Popular Place
Good food and friendly pro shop service however incredibly slow play. We could only play 9 which made the round pretty pricey. Probably would not play here again. They need marshals out there to help with pace of play.
Don’t play on Sunday’s
I’ve played here several times, this was the first Sunday I played. No starter and no rangers on the course. Everyone was bunched up, and this led to long back-ups on every hole. Typically a foursome should be able to complete a round in 4-1/2 hours. Yesterday, (3) threesomes (I was in the last group) took us 5 hours and 15 minutes. I got the feeling that the first group was auditioning for the Masters. You need to have rangers on the course to stop the nonsense!
The course was very dried out. And some greens need a lot of work to repair (#9 especially)
Heading Down Hill
Got there at 8:30 only cart guy there. No concessions. We stayed at Harbour Town Yacht Club which has a connection with the course. When we went to pay the guy quoted 170 plus and I mentioned the Club. He said I booked online was reason for high rate. I did that to ensure early time so we could make our flight. By booking online it saved the guy the TROUBLE of answering the phone . I played there several times before. Way less expensive and WAY WAY better condition. WILL NOT BE BACK !!!
Also, no ball washers, no water to drink , no beverage cart.
Course condition fair
Fairway grass is thin and rough is even thinner. Many areas around the green are hard-pan. I understand the demands on a resort course, but they need to step it up and address these conditions
Very nice course
A couple of the greens were in rough shape, and the driving range closes at noon on Wednesday. Other than that…great course
