Oyster Reef Golf Course
About
Oyster Reef features elevated tees and lush fairways lined by thick stands of live oak and pine. Numerous doglegs accented by strategically located mounds and fairway bunkers, call for well-planned tee shots. Varying sizes of greens with well-defined tiers place a premium on precise approach shots.
The par-3 sixth hole, which plays 192 yards from the back tees to a green set against a backdrop of Port Royal Sound, is one of the most visually spectacular holes on Hilton Head. Oyster Reef is now a semi-private member-owned club with a limited number of tee times for guest play,
The carefully-maintained facility, designed by noted course architect Rees Jones, continues to be a favorite destination for serious golfers as well as a favorite with locals.

Wide fairways and very nice greens.
Playing golf in February for a North Dakotan is always a treat. The course was in nice shape for winter. The greens were very true and the bunkers were well maintained. Enjoying the experience and the pace of play was great.
A nice round
A very pleasant experience. Course well maintained even for early spring. Staff very nice. A little slow but there on a nice and busy day so that was expected. Will return next trip to HH.
Beautiful Place
Absolutely a must play course. Beautiful scenery all over. #6 is a fantastic view. Ball placement is a must with fairway bunkers and green side bunkers guarding the greens. Highly recommended.
There are much better options
The fairways were thin, the tee boxes were sparse, most of the greens were dead, the balls at the range were literally junk, and the starter was anxiety riddled. After a 2.5 hour front nine, waiting on every single shot, we decided to quit and go play a different course and weren't able to get any refund for the back 9. There are so many good options near there, there is no reason to waste your time at Oyster Reef. It was quite pricey for me and my son...around $300. Of the 8 courses we played in Hilton Head, this was by far the worst experience.
Very nice course
Excellent pace of play, course was full, but never waited on the group in front and never held up the group behind us. Very nice course conditions
Great layout; friendly staff
My friends and I played the course in February. The greens had been overseeded, so their grass was green and they were in excellent condition. The fairways had not been overseeded, so the fairway grass was dormant and brown. That was the only reason I did not give the course 5 stars for course conditions. I think you need to overseed and have green fairways to earn that. But, overall, I still gave the course 5 stars. Well worth playing.
Great day
First time playing Oyster Reef and it did not disappoint. Staff was fantastic, went into great detail about course. Bag drop and starters were very engaging and did a great job. I was a single with a rider and was paired with a 3. I was a little disappointed that I was charged nearly $40 for a rider fee. I thought that was a little over the top/ The course itself was in great shape. Greens rolled very nicely and fairways were green with plenty of grass.
Restrictions not listed when booking tee times
No advanced notice of over seeding and cart path only restrictions
We would’ve passed if that info shred at booking time.
Friendly staff, nice layout, no GPS in carts
As visitors to courses in touristy areas we're accustomed to getting the cold treatment from course staff. Not here--everyone was cheerful and friendly. I believe that happy staff usually means good management and that means above average conditions. Oyster Reef is a nice place to play. Only dings are lack of GPS in carts (very helpful for visitors) and slightly slow play. Satellite map views were concerning as it seemed that the holes were tightly bound by trees and houses. Fairways were actually not daunting and houses were tucked away.
Decent track with slow play
The course is playable with fairly wide fairways. Many holes had similar layouts from the blue teee with a 250-280 tee shot with a dog leg. The green were good with decent speed. The play was slow during our afternoon round.
Nice, but Hilton Head has better to offer.
Nice course and friendly staff. However, fairways and greens were strewn with debris and pine straw. Many unrepaired divots in the fairways and pitch marks on the greens. I even observed cigar butts on one green. It’s in a beautiful location, but there is quite a distance from each hole to tee box, often winding through the neighborhood. It’s expensive, and given the price other courses on the island are much better maintained. George Fazio is similarly priced and pristine compared to Oyster Reef. Frankly, I was disappointed. It’s a lot to pay and have a less than optimal experience. I would not return.
Fantastic 5 star course
Course was a little wet but playing conditions were fantastic. Fairways were very well filled in and moving ball was not necessary. Green speed was very consistent but a little slow, probably because of a few days of rain. Smooth and great putting greens that had very little break. I made more putts than ever because they were very true.
Can not say enough good things about course. This is a must play for golfers of all level. Would play this course every day.
Always a must play in Hilton Head.
Enjoy the lay out and the course was in great shape. Greens were excellent and rolled true. Hit you short puts with pace if you want to sink them! Cart paths could use some reconditioning due to tree root growth.
