Oyster Reef Golf Course
About
Oyster Reef features elevated tees and lush fairways lined by thick stands of live oak and pine. Numerous doglegs accented by strategically located mounds and fairway bunkers, call for well-planned tee shots. Varying sizes of greens with well-defined tiers place a premium on precise approach shots.
The par-3 sixth hole, which plays 192 yards from the back tees to a green set against a backdrop of Port Royal Sound, is one of the most visually spectacular holes on Hilton Head. Oyster Reef is now a semi-private member-owned club with a limited number of tee times for guest play,
The carefully-maintained facility, designed by noted course architect Rees Jones, continues to be a favorite destination for serious golfers as well as a favorite with locals.

Always a fun track
Played on July 4th in the morning . It was hot and humid but we got around in four hours. Staff was super friendly
Course was in great shape.
Suggestions
- trash cans at every hole
- more frequent cart girl visits when hot
- complimentary sweat towels or cooled towels when hot
- 165$ in the AM vs $69 at 2PM.just doesn't seem right
Oyster Reef
Layout and conditions of the course was fine. We played shortly after a rainstorm. The course drained very well. We were not off the cart path, but should have when we made the turn.
We went off #10 and when we made the turn, the starter put someone in front of us on #1 that completely slowed our round. That was WRONG and should never happen to a foursome that is playing in 4 hours or less. That’s a pure money grab by the course. .
Always enjoyable
Oyster Reef a great layout to test your iron play and fairway woods. Course not for super long Drivers . Excellent condition
Highly Recommended
Staff was extremely professional. Course was pristine and offered challenge. Can’t wait to play again next year.
Aeration
Be sure to check course conditions before playing or calling course about their aeration schedule before booking.
Course conditions
This is a beautiful course and a great layout but unfortunately they aerated the greens and fairways. The price was way to high for the condition the course was in.
Good choice
Find a good deal online to make it worthwhile, Only 1 hole with bay view, Cart path really bumpy, Drive slow, Some Greens not well kept
Disappointed
Play prior to aerification of the greens and fairways. Front nine the fairway were thin and greens were thin with areas that looked like they were losing the greens. Back nine greens were healthy. Ranger claimed the winter grass was dying out. Pace of play was SLOW due to a ladies group socializing more than playing golf. No golf etiquette. Walk off the green and get in the cart- drive off and write your score down at the next tee. Stop talking in the green after every has finished. Drop you partner off instrad of letting them walk up tp the ball 25 yards ahead and then walking back to the cart. No thought of pace pf play. Course needs to improve nfor the cost. Dolphin head had excellent greens in same location for $30 less. Would not pay over a $100 until course improves.
Worst Course for the Money Laughable Rates
Terrible course nowhere near worth the $170 round dead greens slow play horrible value go anywhere else.
Waste of money, $165 for 18. Rot on green of signature hole and half cut out. 9 was under repair and the clubshop boy didn’t say a word before paying.
This is the most I have ever paid for a round of golf in my life and the course was destroyed. Half of the greens were dead and or under repair. For $170 this should have been the most pristine course instead we got dead fairways and a fake green they put in the fairway. Save your money and play dolphin head.
The goofy pro shop guy tried to not give us our money back for 9 at the turn and said the course was in good shape.
Fairways and greens unfortunately in bad conditions. The course layout and staff are outstanding.
Fun track.
Course was enjoyable to play. Fairways were spotty. Greens were inconsistent. Cart lady needed to smile and say hello 😁.
Disappointing
Conditions not as good as in past. lot's of bare spots in Fairways. Greens were a bit inconsistent wrt speed.
Horrible course condition
This course once was a well.kept course but was horrible. I was embarrassed to.take my friends visiting us from California and Pennsylvania. We all wrote.to the pro and heritage golf collection but no response .
Do.not play this course and pay 150.00
Tee boxes and fairways needs some grass grown but greens are perfect
To say I was disappointed is an understatement when I golfed the Oyster Reef Course with friends yesterday. The condition of the front nine is horrendous. We golfed several other courses while in Hilton Head and while I’m aware of the challenges created by the winter, no other course was in the condition as yours. You should at least let golfers know when they check in at the pro shop of the course conditions so a reasonable decision can be made as to whether or not to pay the greens fee rate you are charging for the quality of the golfing experience. It was a total waste of my money to play your course and I will be sure to pass my disappointing experience along to others who may wish to play your course.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We sincerely apologize that the condition of the course did not meet your expectations, especially when hosting friends from out of town. Your feedback is incredibly valuable to us, and we regret that your concerns were not addressed promptly.
We are committed to providing an excellent golfing experience and will be looking into the matters you’ve raised. We hope to have the opportunity to provide you with a much better experience in the future.
Sincerely,
Oyster Reef Golf Club
