Robber's Row at Port Royal Golf Club
About
A Pete Dye redesign of a George Cobb and Willard Byrd original design helped take the Robber's Row Course at Port Royal Golf Club toward the head of the pack on Hilton Head. Dye added or redesigned 43 bunkers on the front nine, changing par from 35 to 36 and did some shortening on the back nine to change par from 37 to 36.
The golf course plays little more than 6,000 yards, with a somewhat-friendly 124 slope rating from the tips. Players will have to do some work on their approach shots, as the Cobb/Dye design keeps its greens well protected with bunkers.
The golf course is a scenic delight, however, and in a nice move, you get history lessons at the tee boxes to help let you know the past of the area you are playing, which was once an important location in the Civil War.

Extremely slow
Course was nice but had to wait on every hole. Extremely slow. Also no cart person and you don’t come back to the clubhouse after 9 so be prepared.
Not worth the price
Course is not in very good shape for the price you have to pay. Tees are completely a mess and greens were mediocre at best. Would not recommend this course.
Great course. Good practice area
This is our third round here. Love it. Staff great. Pace of play good. Course in great shape
Not worth the money
This was our first time to Hilton Head and we wanted to try different golf courses. This was the third course we played during the week. Upon arriving, the clubhouse was not open until 11 am so breakfast was not an option. The staff at the pro shop was not very welcoming or friendly. We are beginner golfers so the entire process was very intimidating. The starter by the carts was very nice as were the folks handling the carts. Our tee time was 9:48 and we were told they were already running 20 minutes behind. In reality it was much more than that since we didn't tee off until 10:30. The lady at the first tee was super nice and helpful to first time guests. Speed of play never picked up and it ended up being a 5 hour round. Luckily it was a beautiful day. The course itself was ok but for the amount of money we paid, I expected better conditions. Not our favorite course of the three we played.
5 hours is unacceptable.
Played behind a fivesome. No rangers evident.
Very good layout, decently maintained. Greens are very slow.
Tight fairways, slow greens.
Great service, friendly staff. Very small and slow greens. Each hole designed so you see no other hole at the same time. Played in 3 hours and didn’t see a sole.
Generous fairways
The fairways are wide. I hit driver all day from the blue tees
The course is in great shape. Played in 4 hr 15 min. With a full tee sheet.
Very mediocre and not worth the money
For $160, I expected much more. Course was in subpar condition and the layout is comical, including a par 5 18th hole where you hit hybrid off the tee, seven iron and then nine iron since it is basically a semi-circle hole. Also included a 265 yard par 4 where trees right at the tee force you to hit a 180 yard tee shot. Not even remotely worth the money.
Great conditions, forgiving layout.
Robber's Row was in great shape including consistent and receptive greens. The layout is very forgiving with generous fairways and minimal hazards, making for a very fun round.
Slow Pace of Play
Course was in good shape and enjoyed the layout. The pace of play was ridiculous. The team boxes were backed up several groups due to a group that was three holes behind pace. We got to know the group in front of us well because of the backup. They would always say see you on the next tee box. For the price paid you would expect them to keep the pace of play moving.
slow play
5 hour round. The ranger tried hard to move people along but to no avail. Tee boxes were in terrible shape, fairways ok, some greens need work.
Slow Pace
The Marshal did not keep the pace of play moving. Every tee box was backed up. Long round of golf and for those with later tee times would not get 18 holes of play.
Will give it a second chance
Had an 8:30 tee time. They gladly took my $155 and then nobody told me they were running 45 minutes late until I got to the first tee. The front 9 then took wayyy too long. Haven’t had that experience on HHI to date and hope it doesn’t happen again. As for conditions, the tee boxes need more grass and the greens are spotty.
