While Hilton Head is chock full of courses designed by some of the greatest names in golf, just one of them was designed with a computer to give it lines straighter than an arrow throughout.

The Robert Cupp Course at Palmetto Hall can be one of the most interesting and eclectic courses you'll play, as well as possibly one of the toughest. From the back tees the course plays to 7,079, with a slope rating of 144.

Named as Golf World's top designer in 1992, Cupp created a course that is visually challenging as well as challenging to play. With sand traps looking as if they were drawn in by, well, a computer, this is a course you'll tell your friends about, though you may not tell them your score.

Greens are in perfect shape

From check in through finish the Cupp Course made for a terrific day of golfing. The pace was quick, the course layout interesting, the greens excellent and the staff pleasant and professional. Couldn’t ask for more.

Great layout

This course has a beautiful layout. The course was in decent condition for the time of year although the fairways were a little rougher than some others we played. The greens were in very good condition and were medium fast. The beer price is steeper than every other course . We kept getting tolf to speed up yet we played in 3hrs and 40 minutes so that was annoying.

Needs maintenance

Played this course three or four years and the conditions of the tee boxes has slipped on a few holes. The group in front of me played slowly, so much so that the group behind me quit.

Great course/slow play

Great course, challenging layout, good shape, fun. However over a 5 hour round. No marshals on course to figure out problem.

Palmer hall Cupp course

First time playing there. Signage could better, nice course but in Feb. it is very brown and dead except for very nice greens. Cart paths in poor shape.

Carts have no gps, no course layout info on cars so first time there was a bit of challenge. Nice layout of holes.

Challenging layout, fair amount of water, not too many bunkers. Good shape this early in the year. Will definitely play this course in the future

Painted fairways

Instead of over seeding like golden bear they painted the fairway. Not worth the money.

My favorite of the two courses

The Cupp course is probably the more playable and unique of the two courses at Palmetto Hall. That's certainly up for debate, but I like the wild greens he created. They require more interesting decisions trying to get up and down or to make putts. I'll take short-game challenges over ball-striking demands any day (which is what the Hills demands).

Nice course but the rough is not fair

Staff was great, the starter Mitch is great and Dave the cart guy the same. I dont understand the rough and especially behind and to the side of the greens, don’t know what you call this grass but it sucks the ball right in, why would you have that stuff on a nice course, and what is it. I hit most of fairways and approaching shots so I wasn’t affected a lot, but it slows down play cause you can’t see the ball and it’s unfair. The greens were aerated in the past week or to but they still rolled pretty true, I’m sure they are slower than usual
