Robert Cupp at Palmetto Hall Plantation
About
While Hilton Head is chock full of courses designed by some of the greatest names in golf, just one of them was designed with a computer to give it lines straighter than an arrow throughout.
The Robert Cupp Course at Palmetto Hall can be one of the most interesting and eclectic courses you'll play, as well as possibly one of the toughest. From the back tees the course plays to 7,079, with a slope rating of 144.
Named as Golf World's top designer in 1992, Cupp created a course that is visually challenging as well as challenging to play. With sand traps looking as if they were drawn in by, well, a computer, this is a course you'll tell your friends about, though you may not tell them your score.

Good condition, considering
Fairways were good, greens were very good considering it's April. Pleasantly surprised to see a beverage cart on a Tuesday, although two drinks set us back 20 bucks, not counting tip. Bar and restaurant looked nice but closed at 4 so we were unable to give it a try. Would like to have had GPS on the carts. Got a good deal on Golf Now, otherwise a bit pricey. Definitely worth what we paid, though.
Plantation Hall Robert Cupp Course
Staff was very friendly, course is extremely dry, most greens under some kind of repair. Fairways were very dry and sandy. Conditions were poor compared to other courses in the area.
Over priced considering the condition of the course.
Greens were inconsistent- some fast some slow.
Many areas wee. Just sand- no grass. Disappointing for the price.
HCP 1 hole playing as par 3 while under renovation
Otherwise, course conditions were better than expected for late March. Got a hot deal, a very good value for a great layout. Some tees and fairways still had late winter/early spring issues, but almost there on first day of Spring. Want to play it again, as you need to know how several greens are actually angled in to the adjacent ponds - tricky, tricky, tricky.
A rebirth
Course management is bringing this course to new levels. New bunkering, greens manicured, tee box renovation and the pro shop was beautiful.
Well worth the money and time!
Long In the Wind
Challenging course from any of the tees. Country Club feel. Super staff at every interaction.. Bummer 1 of the holes was under construction & out play. But overall great value. Need to play the course a # of times to confidently play it well.
