Royal St. Augustine Golf and Country Club
About
Located in Florida’s oldest city, Royal St. Augustine Golf & Country Club offers a glimpse of the area’s lush foliage and native marshlands. The course has a visually interesting layout with elevated, sprawling greens and a variety of bunker shapes and sizes. The moguled fairways and sandy waste areas are two other distinguishing features of the course. It is a tight course with large greens and gentle undulations. The layout provides a “target-golf” experience that puts a premium on accuracy and distance control. The numerous bends in the course in combination with the blustery winds also makes proper club selection very important.

My first round in Florida ... never going back to PA :P Photo submitted by Eric3413 on 08/06/2013
So much potential
Course has so much potential. Beautiful drives in between holes through a nice community. Challenging narrow fairways. Great for placing your shots. Unfortunately the course is beat up. Tee boxes are in horrible shape. All over the course there were spots that were under repair. Even sod on a green. We kept on saying throughout our round how nice it could be. Oh well happy we played a new course but wouldn’t play again.
Improved conditions
It’s nice to see the progress made on the greens which are rolling good. Areas around the greens also have been worked on, bare areas now have grass. The rough areas are still “rough”. But just stay in the fairway right?
Bunkers seem to have more diirt than sand.
Played on Saturday past and enjoyed myself enough to go back on Memorial Day.
What Happened to this Once Gem of a Course?
This place has really gone down hill over the past few years. Once a favorite target golf course in the Jacksonville/St Augustine area, also one of the toughest layouts, period - now the fairways, tee boxes, and fringe areas are an embarrassment. The greens were decent enough for the price, I suppose, but chipping and approach shots on top of St Augustine grass and weeds is quite the irony for the course's namesake - St Augustine. I'm sure attendance and membership may be down since COVID, but please someone rescue this once awesome and respected course!!
Great staff!
Excellent course. Some holes will challenge even the very good golfers. Staff is excellent.
Rough shape
The course actually has some well designed and interesting holes. Unfortunately it also has several holes with blind tee shots and ponds lurking where you can’t see. I’m sure it was a nice course at some point in the past, but is now in poor condition tee to green. The greens were inconsistent and have a lot of poa and weeds. There is very little grass on the fairways, and no room for error since none of the vegetation on the sides of the fairways has been trimmed back for quite some time. These things make the course play even more difficult which only leads to a more negative view of the course.
I can’t imagine that I will ever go back to play there due to the conditions.
Unforgiving
You really need to be a precision player to enjoy this course. Unless you truly understand the course, you never know where your ball will end up.
This course needs attention.
The course was in rough shape. Very dry in areas & the greens were in bad shape. In our experience of playing different courses. The price was to high for the shape the course was in.
The employees were very friendly and professional.
Rather play back 9!twice
Great staff. Signage could be better for us first time players. First 9 really needs work. Tee boxes are non really bad on first 9 holes.
Course review
First time playing Royal Saint Augustine. I thought the course layout was challenging one. I like the uniqueness of the course layout.. The front nine holes need some repair on each hole. The back nine is in better shape. The greens were either slow or fast. It was tough to judge how to put on each green. Hopefully once the grass starts to fill in and grow, . The course will be in better shape.
Bring xtra balls
Love course layout, very tight, target golf. Very interesting. Course conditions: need TLC.
