Royal St. Augustine Golf and Country Club
About
Located in Florida’s oldest city, Royal St. Augustine Golf & Country Club offers a glimpse of the area’s lush foliage and native marshlands. The course has a visually interesting layout with elevated, sprawling greens and a variety of bunker shapes and sizes. The moguled fairways and sandy waste areas are two other distinguishing features of the course. It is a tight course with large greens and gentle undulations. The layout provides a “target-golf” experience that puts a premium on accuracy and distance control. The numerous bends in the course in combination with the blustery winds also makes proper club selection very important.

My first round in Florida ... never going back to PA :P Photo submitted by Eric3413 on 08/06/2013
Course is getting better but still needs lots of work.
Coming Around
Greens are getting in great shape. Tee boxes I believe are being intentionally grown out and will likely improve greatly soon. Excited this course is being shown some love again.
The course is better shape than it has been in the past
Tee boxes were like hitting out of the rough. Greens are rough
Worse shape and worse customer service in clubhouse
I’ve played this course several times a year while in town. Each year it gets worse. I read some of the reviews and couldn’t believe what I was reading. However once I arrived and stated playing. I could see why the bad reviews. It’s a $20 course at best. On top on the terrible course conditions I went into the clubhouse to grab a bite to eat. I sat down and waited 20 mins before I left. The lady behind the bar didn’t even acknowledge my presence and didn’t even care to look my way even though I was sitting at a table right near the bar. Needless to say I’ll pass this course up next time.
Good course
The pace was a little slow. The course was in good shape the greens had been aerated within a few days or our play and were in decent shape and played fair. They gave us a 1/2 price discount. Will definitely go back next time in town. Good layout and good condition It is not a course that you can walk long gaps between tees but a good layout.
Awful conditions
Tee Boxes were just markers randomly placed in a spot, some on dirt patches with no grass, some on grass that was thicker than the rough on most holes.
Fairways/roughs were all the same.
All of the greens putted differently, some greens with large dirt patches.
The course was in rough shape overall.
The staff was friendly, but, was immediately hit with a sales pitch for the rangers/starters side business.
Challenging
We had a great time for a couple of old average golfers. The fairways were in great shape and very challenging. They were very hilly, with lots of bunkers and streams in strategic locations.
The staff was friendly especially Austin and Debbie.
Almost missed this one
I read a few of the reviews and almost talked myself into playing a different course. My wife drove the cart and took pictures of the place. We both enjoyed the company of the single thatwe met on #1 Tee. Course in very good condition, greens not lightning fast yet a good test.
Good course
The course is ok shape. It’s not squire and slammer but it’s also not $200/round. The greens are different each hole and the rough is exactly that. But the staffs cool, the course is challenging, and they hire cute cart girls and bartenders.
Some holes are very narrow, if you can’t hit it straight, this may be a long day for you.
Forward progress
The course seems to be hopefully headed in the right direction.
Greens were in better shape than I’ve seen them in some time. The fairways were ok. They were watered, but still several weeds. The worst part were the tee boxes. They were either without grass or moved and you were teeing off out of St Augustine grass.
On the upside, there were crews laying sod in several areas.
Hopefully this nice layout is on the upswing.
