Royal St. Augustine Golf and Country Club
About
Located in Florida’s oldest city, Royal St. Augustine Golf & Country Club offers a glimpse of the area’s lush foliage and native marshlands. The course has a visually interesting layout with elevated, sprawling greens and a variety of bunker shapes and sizes. The moguled fairways and sandy waste areas are two other distinguishing features of the course. It is a tight course with large greens and gentle undulations. The layout provides a “target-golf” experience that puts a premium on accuracy and distance control. The numerous bends in the course in combination with the blustery winds also makes proper club selection very important.

My first round in Florida ... never going back to PA :P Photo submitted by Eric3413 on 08/06/2013
Tricky
Tight course, lots of water, old tall pines and undulating greens. Layouts a bit funky too, really spread out...have to drive through neighborhood streets at times about .5 mile to get to next tee box. It’s a fun course though, very challenging, don’t expect to bang your driver onto open fairways. Irons are the name of the game here! All in all good course and fun time, just bring an extra box of balls, you’ll need them.
Very kind folks
The greens were very rough. Could have used some grass seed in some of the fairways.
Descent course for the value
Look, it’s not the TPC for sure, but it’s a descent course to get some practice. Definitely not a walking course. Also I’d be interested to see how golfers nailed a car or two on on the back nine! The fairway on 15 is next to a four lane county road and any slight slice and you will nail a car. I got lucky as my golf ball bounced off of UPS truck and then into the median, but next time I’m using my putter...
Hard but Enjoyable
If you're a beginner you will not have a good time. If you can get off the tee box and enjoy crowned greens and fairways - here's your place.
Course condition
The course fairways were dry, bare areas.Brushy areas need to be cleaned and cut back to open up course better as many of fairways have narrow areas. Greens were all grass less but understand they are being refurbished. Directional signage needs improvement/ saw 2 spots on cart paths where hand made signs were hung to direct drivers as it is confusing as to next tee box.
I general opinion is that this course needs attention from greens keepers.
Always challenging
This course offers all types of golfers challenges on every hole. You need to bring your A game! Fun layout. Very friendly staff.
Decent course, too much $ on weekends
Course is pretty tight // definitely a challenge on some holes and some decently interesting holes from the tips especially. Lots of yardages are 10-15 yards shorter than they actually are, though.
Decent shape on some holes in the sun, but tree-covered holes the fairways and greens were a bit rough in patches.
Pace of play and staff were top notch, Can see it being decent value for the money during the week, but on the weekend not worth the ~$50 price tag.
Overall Goos Buttt.....
I just think it’s overpriced for what you get. The course is super challenging and I feel like it’s improving my short game and forcing me to make smarter shot choices on the course. My main complaints are the price for premium times compared to better maintained courses in the area. They really need to hire a cart person as if you don’t bring your own you really can only get drinks at the turn and when you are done. Course has gotten worse over the past few weeks. There are multiple greens 3-5 that have almost mud on the green. 1st whole has a bunker that’s needed repair for weeks.
Course condition poor. Understood all greens being revitalized burn fairways and tee boxes rough- grass needed everywhere.
Course trail very convoluted, winding through residential houses and seriously needs better marking- saw 2 hand written signs posted to direct to next tee.
Food at Club house good, staff very friendly.
Course in general is good design but with narrow fairways has almost too many hazards.
Challenging/ great location
Greens in terrible condition/ noted they are all under renovation. . Many areas of fairway brown and grass missing. Over all this course needs attention to address over all condition of fairways and greens. Areas of rough need to be better manicured.
This course winds through several residential neighborhoods and needs clearer signage to direct golfers to next holes. Noted hand made signage in 2 places. Other first time players asking us where the next hole was located.
There are almost too many obstacles on this course which has narrow fairways on most holes. The back 9 has some very difficult holes even for a good golfer.
Compliments to staff in restaurant and pro shop for friendliness and efficient service. Lunch very good.
Another note: exterior of golf club house looking shabby. Example: Window awning faded, raveling- need replacement. Exterior needs painting.
Over all this course is nice but needs to be sharpened up .
Tough course, lost a lot of balls today
We enjoyed our round, despite the difficulty level the course presents. Extremely tight fairways that funnel even good hit shots into bad spots. There is a lot of distance between holes and not always super clear signs. The course was really well maintained, the the greens weren’t perfect, but it’s late February, so I’ll give them some grace for the greens. The course could use more distance markers and is not for the faint of heart. If you are looking for a challenging round of golf this is the place.
Target golf on a pretty course
The course plays longer than the stated yardage. Several holes have doglegs that limit the use of drivers on tee shots. The staff was very friendly. The greens putted fairly true though the grass was thin on several greens.
Needs significant maintenance. Otherwise, a fun course
Been playing here for 13 years now
Course needs a lot of work. Tee boxes, fairways, and greens all in poor shape.
I do love the layout. Fun course. Challenging.
Service generally pretty friendly.
I’ll keep coming back but disappointed with upkeep currently. Other courses in the area are in much better shape this season.
Unique holes
Great place to play
Conditions pretty good for this time of the year
