Royal St. Augustine Golf and Country Club
About
Located in Florida’s oldest city, Royal St. Augustine Golf & Country Club offers a glimpse of the area’s lush foliage and native marshlands. The course has a visually interesting layout with elevated, sprawling greens and a variety of bunker shapes and sizes. The moguled fairways and sandy waste areas are two other distinguishing features of the course. It is a tight course with large greens and gentle undulations. The layout provides a “target-golf” experience that puts a premium on accuracy and distance control. The numerous bends in the course in combination with the blustery winds also makes proper club selection very important.

My first round in Florida ... never going back to PA :P Photo submitted by Eric3413 on 08/06/2013
Fair but needs TLC
First time playing since the pandemic. I want a somewhat challenging course that allowed me to use all of the clubs in my bag, but not overwhelm me before the rust came off. Missioned achieved. If only the greens were NOT a week after aeration I am sure I would have scored better and enjoyed the course mote.
Greens just punched
Greens were just punched and sanded - very bumpy. Tight, short layout. Course layout is difficult to figure out - look for all signage.
HORRIBLE SHAPE & DISAPPOINTED
My group of friends and I arrived at the course early and first we noticed all groups were in separate carts the norm due to COVID -19, but we were told to pair up since we were playing together and there was a shortage of carts...
ALL of the greens were in awful shape sand and holes due to airerating the day before and the course didn't inform us at check-in and no starter.
I will be contacting Golfnow to seek a refund for this round because the price should have been half the price.
Definitely not the 45+ minutes drive for me to drive.
Not aware they were Doing aeration
This was the worst round of golf I have played all year. When we check in the clubhouse didn’t even alert us that the greens were punch and sandy. So, putting was limit to one put and picked up. The pace of play was excellent. The Staff were very friendly and nice.
Course is very difficult. Bring lots of game or lots of balls.
Course was in great shape, but very tight and difficult. My only complaint is that Golf Now double booked and double charged me, and won't refund their mistake.
St Augustine G C May 2020
Difficult course from the Blue tees with several quirky holes. Fairways were brown and inconsistent and tee boxes were chewed up and not in good shape. Greens were just fair at best.
18 in the rain
Great test on a tight course. Leave the Driver in the car, you don't need it. Rained all day but you need to play in the rain every now and again. 3 hours for 18 holes on a Sunday Morning under $40 bucks... rain or shine I'll take it every-time!! course is in very good condition overall.
Good Value and Challenging
Nice course, Not too difficult albeit some narrow fairways . Some interesting and fun holes. Condition is ok but for $26 it was quite acceptable. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Would play it agin if I was in the area.
Target golf course in good condition
Great staff, great greens, great price.
Tight fairways with lots of hills, water and sand. A good test.
Great day
My wife and I had a wonderful day here at Royal SA. We met another friendly twosome and enjoyed their company. Nice day.
Conditions Wanting
I enjoyed the challenge of tight fairways, though the entire course was pretty worn out. The grass had gone unwatered for weeks, the tee boxes were beat up, and the many bridges passable but in disrepair.
Staff was friendly and we played round in under 4 hours
A different design than most
Interesting layout with many placement shots. Greens and fairways were only fair today. Good value as the round was only $21.
Enjoying the outdoors.
The course was in good shape. Greens were a good pace and true. The fairways were cut neatly and had a lot of weeds mixed in. The difficulty of the course is truly the tightness of its fairways with the sides angled toward water or trees. So when you play Royal St Augustine keep your ball in the middle.
beautiful day
Great day on the course but a bit windy. Pace of play was super great. Finished my round in 2 hours and 45 minutes. shot an 87. Not my best day but a good day nonetheless.
Lack of Operable Golf Carts
At Royal St. Augustine, Social Distancing golf course style mandates single rider golf carts unless you are with a family member then you ride together. Necessary in these cautionary times and great for the single golfer, even when playing with your regular group of friends, as you ride alone. At our 12 noon tee time 7 golfers waited for a cart. None available, all being used. This single rider results in significant use of their fleet throughout the day. My last two golf tee times here, early afternoon Hot Deals, were both ruined by depleted golf cart batteries. Most recently on April 22nd three holes on the front nine required a push to level ground to continue play. On the turn we waited 21 minutes to trade carts. We watched as a cash tip to the single worker in the cart barn got you a cart sooner to tee off the first hole while we waited at the turn. We went to the Pro Shot requesting a rain check for nine holes, but the pro-rated rain check for the Golf Now price does not cover a future nine hole play. Why not just a voucher for nine holes regardless? I also asked about the pay for a cart practice. The entire fleet can not make two 18 hole rounds as claimed by the management. As we finished the back nine we watched the group ahead as one cart pushed another on the 16th hole. At #18 there was a new course hazard, an abandoned gold cart 95 yards on the right fairway on an incline. Either space tee times to meet the capability of the cart fleet or Golf Now must advertise the adverse conditions of play.
