Wedgefield Golf Club
About
The course at the Wedgefield Golf & Country Club, although suitable for all golfers, is most appropriate for intermediate players. The affordably priced Wedgefield Golf Club used to be known as Rocket City and Cape Orlando. The course has a classic-Florida style layout with medium sized greens that are guarded by bunkers and fairways lined with cypress trees. There is water on the golf course but it is not a significant factor in the game. However, there is one hole, the par-3 sixth hole that is surrounded on three sides by water. Wedgefield Golf & Country Club, in addition to the course, has a chipping area and putting green as well as a golf school.

Go play here NOW
I've played this course on and off for 30 years, (Rocket City, Cape Orlando) and this is in the best shape it has ever been.
IDK if it was the day everything was mowed perfectly, or what, but it was plush. Thick, green grass over the whole course. The greens roll about a 9.5. Not crazy fast, or slow. Burmuda rough is penal but not unplayable. Bunkers were a bit wet from recent rains but playable.
This course is in better condition than most way higher priced courses in the Orlando area. You won't be disappointed.
Nice course
The restaurant is permanently closed, so that's why the off course amenities was rated low. The fairways are a bit long, but have good grass. The rough is Bermuda and thick. The greens are very good, firm but receptive.
Overall a good track for the price...
They don't care if your round takes 5 hours
This had the potential to be a better rating except they don't marshal the course, so an extremely slow threesome let multiple holes open ahead of them while all tee boxes behind them piled up with two or three groups waiting. This was my first time returning to this course in a few years and it will probably be a few more now before I forget this and think of returning.
Nice Course
Both the women at the Desk and the gentleman at the starter post were friendly and pleasant to talk too. Overall its a nice course and in good condition with exception of the fairway on the 18th hole which needs some additional drainage or to be re-contoured it was a muddy wet mess.
Great place to play
If you are thinking about playing this course PLAY IT . It is in the BEST SHAPE I have ever seen. I have been playing there for years . Craig and his guys have made this place AWESOME the greens are fantastic and the fairways and cut and clean. Anthony in the pro shop is friendly and very helpful. Pace of played was great and sand traps are raked and clean with no water in any traps. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK GUYS . Can't wait to come back and play it again
Fun course. Try it.
Played this course on a golf getaway. Came back 2 days later and played again. Very nice people Thank you.
surprise
Had not been here in many years. Last time was not enjoyable as it was pretty burnt out. Met some friends from the coast here yesterday and was pleasantly surprised that the fairways had grass and the greens although recently aerated ran a little slow but true. Wil definitely play again.
Below mid
Expect a 5 hour round. Brutal tee boxes. This should be a $30 course MAX and it wouldn’t be a bad review.
The Land of Lost Balls
We played here several years ago and remembered a lot different experience than those expressed in the most recent reviews. But, based on those reviews we came again with high expectations.
It's very unusual for me to lose more than one ball a round but I lost 6 that were unfindable (and believe me, we looked) on the front nine alone, all in creeks or ponds that seem to hide from view until the ball rolls longer that expected and disappears.
Overall the course was in decent shape compared to years ago, showing that management has taken care of previous problems in hopes of staying open in a competitive market.
If you haven't played here in a while, my advice is to pick up a free hole-by-hole guidebook before heading out. I didn't (the pro shop staff person didn't offer me one) and it showed.
Getting better
Only complaint.- the greens were lightly sanded which made them pretty slow. The course is getting better and better!
