This is the kind of place the locals actually play. The kind of place that offers regular Sunday champagne brunches and New Year's Eve parties in the clubhouse. Mesquite's low green fees bring them in (under $100 even in Palm Springs' ultra expensive peak season). Its mountain backgrounds and golf along the bottom of a streambed are what bring them back.
Mesquite Golf and Country Club in Palm Springs isn't a long course by any stretch of today's standards. It comes in at 6,312 yards from the back tees. Locals find that fits just right. Again, it's Palm Springs. Many of the locals are cashing retirement checks between drives. A little shorter does not necessarily mean uninteresting though.
There are eight small lakes out on Mesquite and when the water's running in the stream it plays with some kick. At the same time, it's very friendly to women, seniors, anyone who finds distance to be a challenge. The 366-yard par-4 ninth is illustrative of a course that regularly lets average hackers go for the green.

Enjoyable Play
Wide fairways in great condition, greens well manicured. Played 18 in 3 hours! Will come again.
Much Improved
Stopped playing 3 years ago due to poor playing conditions. Tee boxes, fairways, greens and traps now in excellent condition. Still needs work around the course on cart paths, bridges, etc. Good value for fees. Will add to list of courses to play in Palm Springs.
Neglected gem making a comeback
This course has obviously seen tough times, but with a good plan, some TLC, and a lot of elbow grease it can shine again. Tees, fairways, and greens in good shape. Interesting layout in beautiful setting. Enjoyed my round very much and will be back.
Rustic
It was a true country course No paved cart path. Nice tree lined fairways. Staff was terrific. Very helpful and friendly. Made me tip more than usual
Course and club house need some general maintenance
Good Value
Small greens but good condition. Fairways very nice. Different layout 6 pars 3 and 6 par fives and 4's
Great shape
The course is in great shape and the play time is excellent. The staff is pleasant and friendly. We have played here for the last fifteen years that we have vacationed in the valley.
Better shape than in the past.
The course looks better than I've ever seen it. They still need to fill the old water hazards that they let go dry, but they're keeping debris cleaned up. Greens were in above average shape.
Save Your Money.
Course has seen better days. Despite the great views of the mountains as backdrop for many of the holes, course maintenance and upkeep is lacking. Lots of bare spots throughout, dirt areas, etal. Only positive were the greens; rolled true albeit a bit slow. With so many nicer courses in the area, don't spend your money here.
i like the course lay out
The course is in reasonably good shape for this time of the year
Berkin from the North
Golf Club is a bit tired shows it's age and wear.
You get your money's worth.
The course is clean and neat for its age.
The staff were great as good if not better than most.
Will be back.
cheap with poor manager
manager had poor attitude and complained about GOLF NOW HOT DEALS AND THOSE PLAYERS USING THEM
Walkers not allowed
Club house closed
Great course for the cost
Course is in good condition now. Due to drought there are dry areas where the river usually runs but the main fairways are great and greens are in good condition. It was a great day of golf. Round only took about 3 hrs.
good value for the money
I have played this course for 12 years.sometimes it is in bad shape, but this past year it has been very good..they just recently opened so some of the rough is too long& takes some time to find the golf ball.they still have not cut the grass in the wash (Creek area)& it is about 18 inches long. The fairways are very good, greens a little slow. I will play it when I get back in January.
Oldies but Still a Goodies
It's a shame CA has drought conditions i remember when the fountains were there.....hope they fill in all the old lakes....
First Time This Year
We have been to Mesquite in years past and looked forward to our first time this year. Apparently the course recently opened and this became evident. We kept to the sides of the fairways which were extremely soft and hard to play. The greens were slow and unpredictable. I would give the course a few weeks to firm up. That being said, we had a nice group to pair up with and the views from the course are stunning.
Best $12.00 round
The course is in very sad shape but playable. Great course to practice on fairways have little to no grass. But there was no one on the course due to the temperature so I got to play multiple balls and have a good time anyway couldn't beat this course for the $12 I spent to play with the golf cart .
A GREAT course left uncared for !
For me, to play Mesquite now is a sad round, sad because of how uncared for this once great course is ! I remember the days when Mesquite was one of the BEST courses in the desert, heck, it even hosted the CIF Championship golf tourney ! But, the green fee was VERY reasonable, I had the whole course to myself and the guy in the pro shop was GREAT ! I hope new owners will bring the once great course back !
