This is the kind of place the locals actually play. The kind of place that offers regular Sunday champagne brunches and New Year's Eve parties in the clubhouse. Mesquite's low green fees bring them in (under $100 even in Palm Springs' ultra expensive peak season). Its mountain backgrounds and golf along the bottom of a streambed are what bring them back.
Mesquite Golf and Country Club in Palm Springs isn't a long course by any stretch of today's standards. It comes in at 6,312 yards from the back tees. Locals find that fits just right. Again, it's Palm Springs. Many of the locals are cashing retirement checks between drives. A little shorter does not necessarily mean uninteresting though.
There are eight small lakes out on Mesquite and when the water's running in the stream it plays with some kick. At the same time, it's very friendly to women, seniors, anyone who finds distance to be a challenge. The 366-yard par-4 ninth is illustrative of a course that regularly lets average hackers go for the green.

Thr course was interesting
We played as a two some and a single was joined with us. We completed 18 holes in 4 hours. There is a lot of sand bunkers and very little water hazards. Fairways were in good condition . Trees came into play on all fairways. We would golf it again as the price was right on golfnow.
Good warm up course
Played from the blue tees enough water, sand, and forced carries to get a Palm Springs golf week started for mid-teens hand cap golfers. Not as well maintained as other courses we played, but realitively inexpensive.
Golf Course???
Fairways looked like goats had been feeding on them. Totally barren spots all over.
Sandtraps were just dirt and difficult to see where they began or ended.
Tee boxes for two holes were often right next to each other or tees and greens situated such that you were hitting your approach shots with golf carts sitting in your view of green.
Not a place worth playing.
Nice Course that has seen better days.
We have played this course in previous years during our winter visits to Palm Springs and has been in much better condition. The fairways and greens have bare spots on them. Considerable more vegetation debris on fairways & greens than experienced in previous years. Many of the tee boxes needed attention. We would expect the course to be in better condition, as it has been in the past, for the greens fee paid.
Very courteous and helpful staff. Location is great with respect to where we are staying in Palm Springs.
Course needs lots of work
i could see that the course has been neglected for some time. Trees and shrubs dying, lack of water on most of tee boxes, weeds not taken care of....around bridges and edge of walk ways. To many gophers, even lost balls down gopher holes. Will take a lot of work and a good plan to bring it back to snuff.
COMPARABLE TO A GOOD PUBLIC COURSE
THE COURSE WAS IN AVERAGE CONDITION AND AS INDICATED ABOVE, WAS A GOOD PUBLIC COURSE.
Needs Work
The course was in poor condition. Not many players out on Monday morning so we got around in 4 hours. My cart almost ran out of battery power on the last hole. Grass growing in bunker. See attached photo.
Fun course, slow play
The course is fun to play, the rates are reasonable, and the staff is friendly. However, for the second time in the last two weeks we were unable to play more than nine holes after 2 pm because of extremely slow players in front of us. This time the group ahead of us had some sort of "instruction/game" going on where they kept trying different shots, measuring putts, etc.
mesquite in february
W.hen I first played mesquite several years ago it was in much better shape. Now the tee boxes need extensive work, the fairways are in spots rough and some of the greens were also in need of repair. The course has a lot of potential. Our group had fun playing and the layout is interesting.
Needs some work
The course is showing signs of some neglect. A couple of greens have large spots of dead grass. Some of the sand traps have weeds growing in them.
New Owners Making an Effort
The course recently changed ownership and was in bad shape. Now it is in good shape and improving-a few bad spots on the first fairway and a few greens-but overall a real pleasure to play. Good pace, friendly staff and reasonable price for this time of year. Well protected greens, some multi-tiered and medium speed. I recommend it as a nice recreational course.
Poor conditions
Having played this course for many years we were very disappointed in the condition. Greens may be starting to be diseased. Tees in really bad shape. Just a very disappointing time. Wouldn't play there again for $20.00.
Tired Course
Badly in need of some TLC. Course maintenance doesn't appear to have been any sort of priority. Nice track with potential to be revived.
Great Day at Mesquite on Feb 2
Mesquite is a very nice golf experience! So much so that I came back 3 more times during my stay in Pam Springs.
The course is challenging. The staff is super. The green fees are modest. Good value!
"I shall return!"
the course is in rough shape
there are weeds growing in many of the bunkers, some of the water hazards are empty and really ugly dry. the course doesn't have enough carts so you walk to the driving range across the street then back to the club house to get your cart then back across the street to the first t-box. poor overall but a good price. looks like the greens are coming back and fairway grass is ok. maybe the course will get better
not worth the price
played on a rainy, quiet day..and was still clipped $59.00 for about a $39.00 course. Course in rough shape. definitely won't be going back.
used to be nice
Pretty run down
Looks like was very nice at one time
Wow!
Started with no carts available and went downhill from there. Fairways in terrible condition, greens are worse. The bridges you have to travel across are treacherous. The water hazards stink. The traps are half grown over with grass, the rest are like a quarry. The restrooms on the course are like outhouses. There was a sign on the door to the clubhouse saying the rates were going up, I wouldn't go back if it was free. The worse part, our wives were creeped out by the marshal. Saw him 7 times on 13 holes, parked watching the ladies take their shots. Creepy!
A good value in the Palm Springs area
The staff at the course was very friendly and accommodating. The greens were just fair but it appeared that they were working on this problem.
