This is the kind of place the locals actually play. The kind of place that offers regular Sunday champagne brunches and New Year's Eve parties in the clubhouse. Mesquite's low green fees bring them in (under $100 even in Palm Springs' ultra expensive peak season). Its mountain backgrounds and golf along the bottom of a streambed are what bring them back.
Mesquite Golf and Country Club in Palm Springs isn't a long course by any stretch of today's standards. It comes in at 6,312 yards from the back tees. Locals find that fits just right. Again, it's Palm Springs. Many of the locals are cashing retirement checks between drives. A little shorter does not necessarily mean uninteresting though.
There are eight small lakes out on Mesquite and when the water's running in the stream it plays with some kick. At the same time, it's very friendly to women, seniors, anyone who finds distance to be a challenge. The 366-yard par-4 ninth is illustrative of a course that regularly lets average hackers go for the green.

Worse course ever.
The. Best thing I can say is we were alone the entire time. The staff were pleasant, but the course was in horrific shape. Mostly dead grass everywhere only one green in eighteen was, green. Gopher holes every where. Bridges (many of them) were scary to ride over. Worth the money? Not sure of that, but I can't imagine a course in worse shape .
Golf Now desl for the money
Course upkeep is needed,: old bridges, lots of old branches/sticks laying off the course, (in the rough), brown grass, oddly layed out tees. All that aside, we had the course pretty much to ourselves. Rather tough course for beginners,, but our Golf Now deal was hard to beat and at least we were introduced to the course. We'd return is snother great deal comes to Golf Now.
mesquite
nice course but needs some work, enjoyed the back nine. staff very helpful.
Sometimes you get what you pay for
This was a last-minute tee-time for an amazingly-affordable rate. It was my first taste of golf in Palm Springs and--for the price--I thought I couldn't go wrong. When I walked into the Pro Shop the guy looked at me a little surprised. He was watching a show and told me he didn't think anyone else was coming that day--and he was about to shut everything down. Not the most professional exchange, but I wasn't really there for small chat.
The course was in OK shape, but lots of prairie dogs and their holes scattered throughout the native lands and the rough. The layout was a little funny at a few places (maybe they could improve the signage for #4...or maybe it was just me). I ended up running into some sprinklers on the greens of a back-9 hole and just played around it. I thought this would be something I'd run into with the sun going down, but sun set was at least 3 hours away. Maybe this is just how things are done in Palm Springs (vs. Seattle). I definitely got my money's worth--and then some--but if you're looking for something more manicured and with more amenities then I'd keep on looking.
Summer price but not too hot yet.
The price for this round was one of the lowest you will find in the valley at this time of year. The clubhouse is big and old school but they have no sandwiches only candy and chips. The greens were in great shape as were the fairways, it's a straight track but fun , not too difficult.
Great Value for Enjoyable Golf
My brother and I played this course because we were seeking value golf on our first visit to Palm Springs, coming from the NY/ NJ. We were pleasantly surprised. The reviews were iffy,. The pro shop welcomed us warmly, the starter was helpful in describing the course. The fairways, greens and bunkers were in very good condition. This is a course that we will play again before our departure.
Nice scenic course with interesting holes
Long ball hitters will enjoy this course. Wide fairways but done the middle is always good. Off the fairways will challenge the average golfer to back on track.
Old & tired
Course is not in the best shape. Greens are fair but bunkers are mostly neglected. There are several bridges on the course and not one of them could pass asafety inspection.
Bang for your buck course
first time playing this course, fairly challenging but great course condition. I would play here again. Only negative was that they did not have a snack bar for breakfast/lunch. Overall for the price it was a good time.
not very well maintained
This course needs work! There is grass growing in most of the bunkers. The fairways are cut way too long and the greens while looked nice , were very slow. No beverage cart and the coolers that should of had water in them were empty or had no cups. A fair price would have been $25.00 for what this course had to offer.
This review is simply not correct...it might have been when the review was written but it is not true now.
Greens are in very nice shape as are fairways. No grass is growing in any bunker (I would know, I visited many of them.) As another reviewer said, Great bang for the buck.
A good value.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. The course was not in the best of shape, but was playable. The course was pretty easy to follow, but we could not find the women's tees for number 17. It would have been nice to have a little more water available on the course.
Old and Tired
Mesquite was a private club years ago. It is public and the green fees are very reasonable. Unfortunately, the course just does not stack up with other Palm Springs venues. The front 9 is in bad shape with dry, unkempt lakes. The rough is tall and overgrown. The back 9 is in much better shape. I would recommend it for a round on a day that you don't want to pay a premium price or when the better courses are booked.
Good course, friendly staff
Had a fun time golfing with some Canadian folks.....
Course in Terrible Condition
I played this course several years ago. At that time, it was fairly well maintained. My recent round here was disappointing. The course is crab grass dominant with slow players everywhere. I would not recommend playing this course until the owners decide to improve conditions. Kind of sad to see.
Better and a great value
I've played Mesquite often over the past few years. The course is in much better condition. In fact, it is probably the best I have ever seen. The restaurant closed and I have heard that the course may close at the end of the 2016 season. Hope not, this course as a lot to offer. It also has some of the best mountain views in the valley.
Mesquite Golf Course
Good course to practice your golf game. The course was dry with many bare spots. It may fill in as the weather improves . Good value for the price.
Good rate of play
We played as a foursome in 3 1/2 hours. Course is in nice condition and we all think it's good value for the money. There are plusher courses in the area but they charge two or three times as much or more to play.
The staff and facilities are all good, we never purchased any food or beverages so can't comment as to those services.
We are all 20-25 handicaps and found the course to be player friendly but still somewhat challenging as there are several water holes that give you the opportunity to hit into.
We play this course fairly frequently when in the area and then treat ourselves to the odd game at the higher end more expensive courses 2 or 3 times a month.
Up and coming
Greens and fairways very good. T boxes good. Played in 3 hours as twosome replayed 9 more. Pace sixty minutes. Rough undergoing upgrades. You can see all the work they r doing. Walkable; flat. Small greens with sand traps on both sides. Reasonable rates. No grill on course. Not even a hotdog. Very friendly staff. Going to be a great neighbourhood course when finished.
The course has greatly improved
This is the second time I played here in a week. What a great improvement from last spring. The course is in excellent shape. The fairways are green, the greens run true and fairly fast. If you haven't been here in a while, you need to check it out you won't believe the improvement.
I think the problem is much deeper. Agreed that the course could have been in better shape, but the dead ducks in the ponds that were not picked up by the maintenance crews sent another message. Also the Pro Shop was gutted. It had nothing new, and it was all small and extra small. So sad to see such a great course in that sad shape.
