This is the kind of place the locals actually play. The kind of place that offers regular Sunday champagne brunches and New Year's Eve parties in the clubhouse. Mesquite's low green fees bring them in (under $100 even in Palm Springs' ultra expensive peak season). Its mountain backgrounds and golf along the bottom of a streambed are what bring them back.
Mesquite Golf and Country Club in Palm Springs isn't a long course by any stretch of today's standards. It comes in at 6,312 yards from the back tees. Locals find that fits just right. Again, it's Palm Springs. Many of the locals are cashing retirement checks between drives. A little shorter does not necessarily mean uninteresting though.
There are eight small lakes out on Mesquite and when the water's running in the stream it plays with some kick. At the same time, it's very friendly to women, seniors, anyone who finds distance to be a challenge. The 366-yard par-4 ninth is illustrative of a course that regularly lets average hackers go for the green.

Course is getting better
As the course is getting better it has a way to go to compete with the courses in this area. Some of the traps need attending and areas on the greens are not good. Overall the course is ok.
This course is very forgiving
Very flat course... Very walkable and no chance of landing a ball in a backyard
2 different nines
front nine was rough grass longer greens uncut and you had to be down the middle very challenging, but back nine was extremely fun to play but had better upkeep cleaner and still very challenging overall really enjoyed course
Improving conditon
This golf course has been in poor condition for a few years but is improving. The greens are still a little rough and the fairways have some thin areas. It is my understanding that the golf course was purchased out of bankruptcy and the new owners are committed to a restoration. Great course and one of my favorites in Palm Springs.
Most Improved
Best shape I've seen this course in for several years! New Owners are making improvements, greens still not perfect but getting better fast, fairways are much improved from previous years. This is a neat track with 6 par 3's and 6 par 5's.....the 3's are long and the 5's are relatively short, 4's are challenging.....all have trouble so it keeps your attention. Great value and great views.
Just reopened
Starter told us they had only be open 8 days after reseeding/overseeding. Fairways were in good shape but the greens were still pretty bumpy and pretty slow.
Happy to Have You Back
After several months of closure this course is under new management and we are so happy to see it back. OK, it's not in the best condition yet as it is still a work in progress but being that it's close to the center of Palm Springs and priced way below other courses at this time of year so that makes it a great choice for those of us NOT here on vacation and willing to spend whatever it takes for a round of golf. I encourage you to give this place a try and enjoy it for the pace of play, ease of getting a tee time and convenience of location. I intend to.
Terrible shape
We usually play this course 5 to 10 times during our winter stay. This time the course condition was the worst I've ever seen. The greens were bumpy and had a bunch of raised circles on them. The sand traps had long grass and weeds growing out of them. If they are going to sell green fees they need to do a lot of work to get this course up to par.
Barely a golf Course
This course is in the worst shape I have ever seen. Every tee box is dirt. Greens are in terrible shape with bare spots. Most fairways are bare. I cannot believe they do cart this course a poor. Even at $22 I fell we over paid
Course need some TLC
we have play this course before and enjoyed it, this time it shows that needs water and maintenance, we still enjoy the day and had fun, there isn't a bad day playing golf in Palm Springs, the price was very reasonable and the staff was excellent.
Poor Course
Very sad! I played this course 5 years ago and found it to be a good value. Clearly, there is something going on financially. The fairways were a mess. The greens were a mess. The traps had grass growing throughout. The lakes were dry. I can only describe this course as a golf ghost town. Hopefully, new ownership will come in and invest in the course. Stay away otherwise!
Worst Course in all of Palm Springs!
This course is in terrible condition. The fairways are just burnt grass, there are weeds in the sand traps and there is no water in any of the water hazards. This is the worst golf course we have ever golfed, and would not recommend this course to anyone. We were going to quit after 2 holes, but decided that it couldn't get any worse.
Great value for the money
People who are not in the golf business need to understand that it's a tough business at this time so some course conditions are not up to par. Adding that the drought in California is not helping some or most courses in this case. This course is one of them cases. The facility is doing the best they can with what is at hand. The staff was some of the friendliest I have ever encountered. Maintenance was on the course doing improvements and making upgrades. My girlfriend and I enjoyed the afternoon at this facility and plan to return again. Again, remember please be patient with some of these facilities and note it's a tough business at this time and all facilities in this area are trying. I give a big thank you to the staff at mesquite country club. They are doing an outstanding job.
Take this course off golfnow
The worst course I have ever played in my life. So dry you hit off dirt 99% of the time. It is so badly maintained that weeds are growing in the middle of every bunker. Lakes are dried up. Standing water around sprinkler heads with mosquitos hanging around. Greens are a train wreck. The lady running the place was out front smoking a cig when she greeted me. I was starving so I had to eat one of their old sandwiches. Gopher holes everywhere. The range balls are at least 10 years old. The most unenjoyable round I have ever played. I wanted to quit after 2 holes but my buddy made me play 9. Not sure why golfnow allows this dog track on the site. Makes me think twice about using golfnow.
Disappointing
Usually a very pleasant experience, this time around course conditions were poor. Tee boxes and fairways were worn out and dry. Lots of hard pan and dead grass. Greens were good. Staff friendly. Heard that the conditions were due to over seeding occurring over the summer months. Really?
OLD AND TIRED
Very beat up, dry, run down and in disrepair. Would not recommend
This couse has been let go and is in terrible condition.
They have let the course go. No grass in the tee boxes but lots in the sand traps. It appears as if they have stopped watering for the season and just let the course go. We paid $14 and felt like we way over paid. Don't waist your time here. Play somewhere else.
New owners
The greens are in great shape, but everything else is a wreck. No food or drinks anywhere, no grass on the fairways. The bunkers looked like flower beds that havent been weeded. The lakes have a few inches of green water in them. This used to be such a nice little track.
