This is the kind of place the locals actually play. The kind of place that offers regular Sunday champagne brunches and New Year's Eve parties in the clubhouse. Mesquite's low green fees bring them in (under $100 even in Palm Springs' ultra expensive peak season). Its mountain backgrounds and golf along the bottom of a streambed are what bring them back.
Mesquite Golf and Country Club in Palm Springs isn't a long course by any stretch of today's standards. It comes in at 6,312 yards from the back tees. Locals find that fits just right. Again, it's Palm Springs. Many of the locals are cashing retirement checks between drives. A little shorter does not necessarily mean uninteresting though.
There are eight small lakes out on Mesquite and when the water's running in the stream it plays with some kick. At the same time, it's very friendly to women, seniors, anyone who finds distance to be a challenge. The 366-yard par-4 ninth is illustrative of a course that regularly lets average hackers go for the green.

Seen better times
Course needs some work to bring up to Palm Springs value. The sand ( or grass ) bunkers need work. Did not eat here heard there where some shortages and took a long time to be served. The bridges over the creeks are in Big need of repair. The course just had a tired look to it, maybe because we hear it is up for sale.
Conditions were similar to a cow pasture
When I showed up there was no one around to take my bag or direct me around. That didn't bother me too much but is not what I am used to at golf courses down here. I have never set foot on a more poorly conditioned golf course. You couldn't find a spot to hit tee shots from the horribly maintained tee boxes. There was no discerning between rough and fairway. Greens were in ok shape. I honestly skipped out on the back nine in favour of hitting to road to get an early start on our long trip home. I have never reviewed a course before, either good or bad, but this one was so poor I felt I had to. We played tauhquitz down the road the day prior for the same money and it was a night and day difference. Pace was ok on the morning I played. I would not reccomend this course at any price let alone what they charge. You will get better value and have a Better experience at any other course you choose.
Relax and enjoy the day!
If you don't mind playing behind mature novice golfers, then this is the course for you. There is no Marshall presence and no starter, so if you are just out to enjoy the day and the pace of play doesn't matter, then you won't be bothered.
The greens however were in great shape and the price of beer at the turn is more than fair.
Enjoyable
Well travelled but enjoyable. Good for the average golfer and is close to Palm Springs.
Drought!!
A few of the greens were rough and some of the fairways were dried out. Obviously drought conditions.
A course to warm up your game
If you are looking for amenities or landscaping you can skip Mesquite...there wasn't a beverage cart or snack shop and the course had many areas of GUR. However, you do have the opportunity to use all your clubs, so maybe play this one first on your visit. The greens are smaller than average.
Classic old course
Mesquite offered a very pleasant round of golf for everyone. With its small greens and challenging par threes, my son and I had enough tough shots to keep us interested. my daughter and her fiance are beginners and they found it fun and not punishing. Few balls were lost. Overall condition was average but the greens were very good. The wonderful weather just made it even better.
Poor reception by starter - course in rough condition
I would not play again - starter made us feel as if he was doing us a favor letting us play. Almost outright rude.
On the other hand the bag boys were very courtious and polite.
Mesquite
course was in great shape and the greens were really pure.
Would definitely play the course again.
Enjoyable Golf
The course is not too difficult, but we had an enjoyable round.
Not worth the money
Rude staff, course in poor conditions, in need of a lot of maintenance. Felt that our money was good there but golfers not welcomed.
unfriendly staff at checking counter.
the clueless person at the checkin counter would not let our group check in until 6 minutes before our t time. rason given was some of the golfers in front of us hadn't checked in yet. wouldn't let 2 2 somes pair up because they both had their own times. person needs to find a job where he does not have to work with people. sand traps had more rocks and grass than sand in them. will not be back
Mesquite Golf Course--Good Value
This golf course is sometimes seen as being in less than top level condition or as being unchallenging. These views don't match reality. The greens are in excellent shape and the fairways, while showing some areas of wear from heavy traffic are generally up to standard for a public course. The course also has more challenges than might at first be seen.
Bridges
Greens good shape, fairways poor. Need serious work on all bridges, planks are broke or missing. Made crossing very uneasy. Course layout not the best, you are in the line of tee shots often. Not the safest course to play. Not a bad play but not worth the money.
Unacceptable
We had to wait 20 minutes for a golf cart. In all my years playing golf , this was a first and totally unacceptable .
One negative for the day
The course was great but the only fault was that they were short on golf carts - so much so that we waited almost an hour from our tee time. Given that the fees included a cart I would expect they would have enough carts available for the times they book. They indicated that they had more carts on order but if they knew they would be short, they should have not booked all the times
It Was Fun and Challenging
We enjoyed ourselves immensely - the fairways were in great shape, the course was challenging but still fun to play. And we met some great people to join us in our laughs. We stopped for a beer after and the staff was very helpful-we'll be back for sure!
Tee boxes need fixing
Great day to play golf, tee times ahead of schedule which was great. Tee boxes need to be better, some were on crests of mounds with little grass.
My Fav in Palm Springs
Close by, good conditions, great weather, nice people, face pace, reasonable rates and lots of balls to be found----- Golfing Paradise!
