This is the kind of place the locals actually play. The kind of place that offers regular Sunday champagne brunches and New Year's Eve parties in the clubhouse. Mesquite's low green fees bring them in (under $100 even in Palm Springs' ultra expensive peak season). Its mountain backgrounds and golf along the bottom of a streambed are what bring them back.
Mesquite Golf and Country Club in Palm Springs isn't a long course by any stretch of today's standards. It comes in at 6,312 yards from the back tees. Locals find that fits just right. Again, it's Palm Springs. Many of the locals are cashing retirement checks between drives. A little shorter does not necessarily mean uninteresting though.
There are eight small lakes out on Mesquite and when the water's running in the stream it plays with some kick. At the same time, it's very friendly to women, seniors, anyone who finds distance to be a challenge. The 366-yard par-4 ninth is illustrative of a course that regularly lets average hackers go for the green.

waste of mon
This course was not as advertised at all. Upkeep was bad and it was overpriced. My son rented clubs and they were terrible. .. circa 1995. Very disappointing. We would not go back.
Neglected course.
The course was run down on the front nine. Fairways need to be watered and bunkers need sand. Grass growing in some of them. Back nine was in better shape than front. Course is good for warming up to other better maintained courses. The grounds coming in around the club house are very nice.
Save your money for somewhere else
This course was very disappointing. Front nine is a goat track, back nine is better. Obvious lack of water is an issue but other courses in the area have managed to cope. Huge lack of attention to routine upkeep items - rotting wood, peeling paint, washrooms looked like they hadn't been cleaned in a couple of weeks. Looks like the place is going bankrupt. Staff friendly - this isn't their fault. Won't be back.
Needs maintenance
Its a nice layout and reasonably priced but the course maintenance has really gone down hill. They don't seem to be putting any money or work into keeping the course up and its really starting to show.
Tired course
Fairways rough, traps need more sand and tee boxes all beaten up.
Mesquite Golf
Would not go back
Course conditions too dry and pasture like
Scenic
Enjoyed the course but expected more from a Palm Springs course. Lack of adequate signage made following course a bit confusing. Greens were in good condition . Overall rating fair to good.
Don't waste your money
This course has seen better days. I'm sorry it was my last experience in Palm Springs. The only positive thing...there was no snow.
If this would have cost 20 each then perhaps I'd spend a sunny day practicing....however this course is overpriced for no golf shop, no beverage girl, no one to put clubs in our car, no bathrooms on the back 9, and a person at the pro shop who wouldn't give directions, since we had two different addresses for the same golf club.
Yuk
nice club house and bar
tee boxes need lots of work.
sand traps are horrible
pro shop staff very friendly
Odd Rules About Twilight Golf
We had a 2:45 tee time which was within the course's "twilight" period. Every course I've ever played on that had a twilight rate allowed you to play as many holes as you could before it got too dark to play. However, this course has a rule that you have to stop playing at 6:30 PM even though that is currently 30-40 minutes before dark. This was not made known to me by GolfNow when I booked the tee time. I feel I was short changed by the course. Otherwise, the course is OK, but nothing special. (Has gone down hill in recent years.)
good bargain
I have played here many times. At the time of this round the fairways were good and the greens were excellent. For the money, a very good value at this time of year in Palm Springs!
Ok
Course very dry....needs water. Back nine in better shape than front.
Good price
This course is in rough shape
The drought has really hit this course hard. It's in very rough shape. It was also annoying that the grounds crews were still cutting the fairways in the middle of the afternoon. The staff are also "gruff" and could take some lessons in customer service!
Friendly staff, not much more!
Friendly staff, little more. The condition of the course has a lot to be desired, beginning with the poorly maintained/manicured driving range and dried out fairways. Sad to see that the surrounding golf courses have such pristine, green fairways after driving over an hour to play here. But, I guess sometimes you get what you pay for.
Ne excuse for slow play
Have a marshall on course, move people along a bit, no reason to be close to 445 on this course.
Course overall has deteriorated
Course conditions especially traps and greens bad, service poor, facility offerings poor.
Very nice course
I paid $35 per player. Very good deal. The course was well maintained. Greens were in good conditions. The course is not worth more than $48-49.
Good Value
This was the first time we have played Mesquite and we found it enjoyable ~~so we will be back.
Good course gone bad
Not worth $30 a round. It seems the lack of water and proper grounds keepers have deminished the potential of this cours. You also may need a back brace after crossing those bridges.
