This is the kind of place the locals actually play. The kind of place that offers regular Sunday champagne brunches and New Year's Eve parties in the clubhouse. Mesquite's low green fees bring them in (under $100 even in Palm Springs' ultra expensive peak season). Its mountain backgrounds and golf along the bottom of a streambed are what bring them back.
Mesquite Golf and Country Club in Palm Springs isn't a long course by any stretch of today's standards. It comes in at 6,312 yards from the back tees. Locals find that fits just right. Again, it's Palm Springs. Many of the locals are cashing retirement checks between drives. A little shorter does not necessarily mean uninteresting though.
There are eight small lakes out on Mesquite and when the water's running in the stream it plays with some kick. At the same time, it's very friendly to women, seniors, anyone who finds distance to be a challenge. The 366-yard par-4 ninth is illustrative of a course that regularly lets average hackers go for the green.

There is a reason it was only $33
This course is not in great condition but worth $33. Greens are slow and bumpy and fairways are not well looked after. If you want to play a big course and your game isn't worth spending a lot of money on, then Mesquite is for you.
Mesquite Golf course
This course was in the worst shape that I have ever seen. I have played here for 10 years and never have seen it in the shape that it is now. Grass growing in the bunkers. Spotty fairways. Bumpy greens.
For $44.00 you get what you pay for
Fairways pretty rough as new turf grows in. Greens very small but flat
This course is Very Good for the Price.
Found Fairway Grass long.
Some Holes hard to find. (Next Hole not clearly indicated).
Not enough Washroom Facilities
recovering
We played course inspite of previous reviews (july).. The course wasn't as bare as reported and the price was great considering most were being overseeded. We had a good time even tho there was a few blind shots.
It is a interesting course and fun.
Some of the greens were not in good shape, grass missing and bumpy. No paper or soap in outside ladies bathroom
The clubhouse bathroom was very nice.
Staff was very cordial and we had fun playing with a couple from Canada.
Very sad, walked off after 9 holes
Having lived in Palm Springs for 15 years and returned for a vacation. I am very sad to ever write a review that could possibly cost anyone money. But to think that someone might be new to the area and think that this course represents it at all would be criminal. The only reason to play this course is if you have only $29 to your name and not enough gas to get to Cathedral Canyon. How you could reseed and have a course in this bad of shape is ignorant management. The greens are so bad that I quit, cant believe that I didn't demand refund, went and rented a bike to get something out of the day. DO NOT play this course unless you are flat broke.
Friendly staff & fun to play.
I don't want to say that this course is easy, because any course can be easy if you play smart. My opinion may be a little biased, since I am typically a bogey golfer. I brought my "A" game today & shot a 76. If 7 of my putts hadn't stopped short of the cup due to untrimmed greens (they had just reopened from over seeding), I would have shot a 69. I have never shot better than 85 in my life! Oh yes, i will play this course again!
Recently opened after overseedeing. Has a long way to go.
Not ready for play. maybe this course will improve over time. It is no ready as it is.
Maybe the course was on vacation
It seem like I was in a scary movie and I was waiting for the Texas chainsaw massacre to appear at any moment. It was very desolent and just plain old eery. When the sun came out I didn't feel too timid but it was a course that I would not frequent. Maybe when it's in season it's more bright and plush.
Unbelievable
This course was in such poor condition it's hard to explain we quit after 4 holes. It's a total nightmare and an embarrassment to the golf capital of the world .
This course has great potential but the tee boxes and fairways were in terrible condition.
I would love to play this course again when it is well maintained.
A good value.
Summer here in the desert is the off season for any golf course, but the bunkers need a lot of attention. You would think the summer heat and lack of water would kill all the weeds growing in the bunkers.
Good layout and design
This place is the worst golf course I have ever played. It was dry, dry, and dry. I teed of in dirt on every hole. It doesn't look like they have watered this course in many months. I will not come back.
Needs planting
The bridges need new wood and course direction is confusing at hole 7. Too many range balls on course
Could use some work.
Understanding that it was the beginning of the shoulder season, the grass all over the course was very dead. At times hitting off dirt. Some holes had pockets of grass but it just seemed to be around some of the sprinkler heads and only about 10 feet around. Seemed a lot worse than it had to be, it was definitely a lot drier than the other courses around. Staff were friendly, allowed a wife of one of the guys I was with and a girlfriend of another to ride along in their own cart. Didn't even yell too much when one of them ran into our cart pretty hard right in front of the clubhouse. After all of that, for the $15 it cost us using golfnow, and for the fun we had bringing the girls on the course, I would do it again. But that's about the most I would pay.
Nice clubhouse.
Exceptional value for eighteen holes - $7 plus booking feee
!!!
Great place for your money.
The course was maintained well. The greens were great, fairways were in nice shape. Just stay out of the bunkers because they needed some help, The staff was friendly and very helpful. I would recommend this course to anyone and would love to play it again.
Great Views and Greens
With a little TLC this course could be spectacular, no course in the Palm Springs area
has better views of the mountains, the greens were the best part of the course,
The tee boxes were better than last year, with more water and fertilizer this course
Could come close to Tahquitz Creek Resort which is the best Public Course in the Valley, unlike Tahquitz, Mesquite Staff is Very Friendly
Needs water badly
This course has great bones, but has steadily gone down hill for the last 4 years. Tee boxes had no grass and fairways were dead. They need to decide whether to put some money into this course or close it down.
