Editor's Note: Course closed for businss in 2022.

This is the kind of place the locals actually play. The kind of place that offers regular Sunday champagne brunches and New Year's Eve parties in the clubhouse. Mesquite's low green fees bring them in (under $100 even in Palm Springs' ultra expensive peak season). Its mountain backgrounds and golf along the bottom of a streambed are what bring them back.

Mesquite Golf and Country Club in Palm Springs isn't a long course by any stretch of today's standards. It comes in at 6,312 yards from the back tees. Locals find that fits just right. Again, it's Palm Springs. Many of the locals are cashing retirement checks between drives. A little shorter does not necessarily mean uninteresting though.

There are eight small lakes out on Mesquite and when the water's running in the stream it plays with some kick. At the same time, it's very friendly to women, seniors, anyone who finds distance to be a challenge. The 366-yard par-4 ninth is illustrative of a course that regularly lets average hackers go for the green.

Course looked like it was beat up pretty badly. Fairways were not good

Staff were kind of ho-hum. Not very friendly. Course looked like a underfunded public course.

Mesquite Golf course - a pleasant experience

Overall, the course is well maintained and we enjoyed playing there. The course has a number of bridges for the golf carts and these are in desperate need of attention. The boards are worn and rickety and one bridge had a board missing!

Course in poor shape

Greens and tee boxes are located very close together and causes play to slow down and wait for other players to clear. Price was reasonable , but there are way better values around. Starter was not very friendly, maybe just having a bad day.

Enjoyed this course for the first time

Though relatively flat this course provides enough challenges with its long par 3s and 4s and with greens that are fast and some that are difficult to read. A great course for the middle to high handicap players to use all their clubs in their bag and for others to fine tune their game. First time to play this course but it won’t be the last.

This course needs some TLC.

This course has the potential to be a good golf course . The greens were in good shape but the tee boxs and the fairways need work.

Good course, great value, condition could be better

A great old style course, narrow fairways and small greens. As challenging as you want with a great layout. The course could be in better shape but for the money none better. The greens have been cut down recently and are a good speed. You can pay $90 per round at "better" courses and if that's your bag go for it. But for my money Mesquite gives good value. Plus yo can usually get on at a reasonable time.

It has great scenery.

One of the best courses in Palm Springs for scenery and the course is challenging. We paired up to make a foursome to get things moving quicker. We enjoyed golfing at Mesquite very much and will go back again.

nice course, older layout

This course takes you back to the days of persimmon woods and 200 yard drives. It has a great deal of old Hollywood charm. Compared to the high priced courses in the area this is an excellent value. I enjoyed the course very much and will return.

My wife and I enjoy playing golf together. This course lends itself well to that. It is not too difficult for golfers with high handicaps.

greens are like velcro

Greens are super slow and the fairways need alot of attention. Staff is not that friendly and where more interested in chatting each other then checking us in. Carts where in better shape then the course. You get what you pay for here. When all other courses where in the $60 to $150 range and this one was $39 know what you are getting.

A nice course but run-down at present

We visit Palm Springs from time to time. I had played Mesquite two years ago and remember it as one of the best value for $ courses in the Valley. I was saddened to see how run-down the course was this time--tee boxes very divot-filled and worn, fairways with bare spots--it appeared over-played and undernourished. The greens although slow were in better shape than the rest of the course. Pace of play was reasonable. Sadly it will be hard for me to recommend Mesquite until/unless it is better maintained.
