This is the kind of place the locals actually play. The kind of place that offers regular Sunday champagne brunches and New Year's Eve parties in the clubhouse. Mesquite's low green fees bring them in (under $100 even in Palm Springs' ultra expensive peak season). Its mountain backgrounds and golf along the bottom of a streambed are what bring them back.
Mesquite Golf and Country Club in Palm Springs isn't a long course by any stretch of today's standards. It comes in at 6,312 yards from the back tees. Locals find that fits just right. Again, it's Palm Springs. Many of the locals are cashing retirement checks between drives. A little shorter does not necessarily mean uninteresting though.
There are eight small lakes out on Mesquite and when the water's running in the stream it plays with some kick. At the same time, it's very friendly to women, seniors, anyone who finds distance to be a challenge. The 366-yard par-4 ninth is illustrative of a course that regularly lets average hackers go for the green.

Needs lots of attention
Course had just reopened after 2 month closure and it wasn't ready. Greens and fairways "splotchy" in spots, but should be good in another week or two. Much of the rough had not yet been mowed, Carts had no ice or divot repair sand and restrooms on course were dirty with no soap, paper towels and the lights didn't work. Range balls were ancient. Wouldn't recommend course to anyone at any price until they get things in order.
Course not ready for play
Mesquite is a nice course however after being closed all summer I expected it to be in pristine shape. It is not ready to be played. The greens are in terrible condition and the rough area along the fairways are so thick that the ball is lost if it hops an inch onto the rough. I will say that when the course is ready is it a fun course to play but they need to wait another 3 weeks and work it.
Worth Playing
If this course was anywhere other than Palm Springs, it would be a decent course. If you can play if for under $60, I think its worth giving it a try. The course isn't long or overly tight but you have to play decently to score well. The only thing that I really dislike about this course is they do not allow walkers. The greens are in good shape but they are pretty small.
Lacked care and attention
Played with my wife and two friends. We have played all types of courses in a lot of different states and countries, but this was one of the worst. The front nine especially is in very bad condition. Overall, the course is also dangerous to play with adjacent holes leaving players in many vulnerable postions to get hit by a ball. Would not reccomend.
Fairways and greens in good condition
Good experience of golf with wide fairways and
short rough to contend with. Greens in good
condition and not to challenging for a good
putter.
