Hyde Park Golf Club
About
Hyde Park Golf Club, built in 1925 by Donald Ross, is one of the oldest in Florida. In 1971, the golf course was purchased by former touring professionals Billy Maxwell and Chris Blocker, who have successfully restored it.
Rolling hills, gorgeous Spanish Oaks and towering Southern Pines make Hyde Park a lasting experience. A tour stop for the men's and women's professional golf tours in the 1940s and 1950s, the golf course gained a place in history during the 1947 Jacksonville Open. The great Ben Hogan took an 11 on the par-3 sixth, which became known as "Hogan's Alley." It has a deep-faced bunker to the right and water to the left.
Hyde Park Golf Club measures 6,468 yards from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 71, and it has a slope rating of 124.

Great day
Excellent course...greens still a little bumpy from the aeration...one of the best golf values in Jacksonville.
Good experience
A Saturday morning tee time is always touch and go with pace of play but it was well regulated and the round was finished in under 3.5 hours. The staff was friendly and the course while busy moved along at a good pace. A couple greens had small dry patches but the pins were placed away from any area like that and the rest of the greens were in nice shape. The layout at Hyde Park is fun with wide fairways or adjacent ones for errant shots to collect. Everyone in our group shot in the mid 80s or better with multiple birdies and an eagle on the gettable par5 14th. I recommend this course for the value and the experience. Go play it!
Clueless Members Ruin a good course
Interesting layout, winter bare fairways, great greens and an obnoxious membership. We were a twosome with cart, behind a walking foursome of members. The front nine was fair at 2 hours, course was full. On the back nine, two groups in front of walkers quit. Regardless, they made our twosome wait on every shot, often at the tee together. No one in front of them. Ruined what could have been a fun day on an old course. Stay away from this asylum, the local players lack of etiquette doesn't overcome value of course
Donald Ross Design
Hyde Park is an old style course, designed by Donald Ross in the almost 100 years ago. The course is cut through old pines and oaks. The winter rye is lush on the greens. They role pretty true but don't forget to get the ball to the hole. The fairways are very tight, but it is February. A cold front was pushing through the day that I played. While the sun was out and the temperatures were well into the 70's, the wind was changing and blowing at over 20mph steadily. Overall a great value for the money, and always a fun golf course to play.
Pretty good greens
First time playing here as home base is as private club. It's certainly an OK municipal course and good value for the cost. The fairways are hard (winter) and not a lot of grass under the ball. Bunkers generally well maintained and greens fair to good.
We were happy with the test - conditions different than our usual and a good way to shine up some rusty skills.
a classic
Hyde Park is a great layout. it gives you a little of everything. some go for it par 5s. some short birdie holes. some risk reward and some layups off the tee. you have to think on this track not just rip it. for a public course its in good shape. lined with old oaks and hanging spanish moss its easy on the eyes and the wallet. what more could you ask for? ive played it many times and will always come back.
Challenging History with Every Shot
Ninety years old and still kicking. You would never guess the course is this old based on the shape it's in. A must play if for no other reason than to say you have.
Good'ol Hyde Park :)
Over-seeding on Greens / Tees settled in pretty good.. Greens still a little slow but roll pretty True / Consistent.. Fairways could use some more cushioning though.. little thin / lots'a tight lies.. Been playing here for Decades & Hyde Park always good for a casual / impromptu round.. Tee-Times generally Not Required , just show up, Start when ready / get in line (if any)...
Not Bad
Not a bad course for the money, the fairways do need some attention.
This Couse gives you great Bing for your buck!
The staff was friendly and helpful. Traffic was backed up. It was the day after Christmas. The course was well kept. Some holes were quite challenging but, they also included a way out for the novice , who was not up to the challenge.
I highly recommend this course. The course was par for the cost.
Better and better every week
Absolutely love this course. It is s must play. Course is in very good shape for a older course. Staff is outstanding and service is great.
Hyde park golf club
Played this course twice on the weekend
12/6/2015.
The course is descent,no ranger, starter so I found my self playing behind a five some!..they left and the pace picked up.i like this course some challenging hole and plenty long from the Blues for your average golfer(me)..I recommend this course on hot deal, not regular season prices.
fun course
course was in decent shape. greens were very slow but fairly true & not too bumpy. bunkers were dark gray looking but played consistent & were finer than they looked. enjoyable day on an older style course.
generally a well kept course
The greens were quite fuzzy due to over seeding and not having been cut for quite sometime. Almost impossible to putt.
A cassic you can depend on.
Little wet,what's not.
Excellent value.
good condition. Good greens&slopes
Slow greens
Beautiful course, great day with friends, had my lowest score ever, that means " I'll be back". Greens could be cut closer so they would be faster but surprisingly all in good shape.
Hyde Park Great deal
I have played this course for years, since 1980. Course is in good shape, greens were fairly nice. A great price and a great place to play. Love the old course feel.
good round
You need to know the course to score well. Pro shop should sell caddie books. Hidden water and creeks. Overall great course
Great value
Excellent value for your money with the old course charm. This is a must for someone who likes old fashion golf at its best. The staff is friendly and knowledgable.
The course presents a challenge on each hole.
This is where Sam Snead and his group played while they were on tour.
Bad green
Green in bad shape...the people was not friendly at all. No one said hello or respond to hello

I've played the old course many many times over the years and there is always a chance to get behind a slow group. Several signs on the course say to let faster groups play through and if you have trouble with that, just skip a hole and drive right by. The course is in good condition, but the greens have been better. Great value and awesome design that allows amateurs to score well. I will be there again tomorrow and many more times to come.
