River Oaks Golf Club
About
River Oaks Golf Club stretches across more than 800 scenic acres along the Intracoastal Waterway. The Course begins with the shortest of the three nines and finishes with the longest. The final hole on the front nine presents one of the most interesting risk-reward opportunities on the golf course. You can aim for the right bunker for an open shot at the green or try a long drive down the left side for a short approach. River Oaks Golf Clubs' Otter nine has several challenges in store including mounding, strategically placed bunkers, and tricky water hazards.

Greens a little slow. Staff excellent in every way.
Good Layout Average Conditions
I went back to River Oaks for the first time in a few years...simply bc the price level at most of the other courses in the area that I usually play was outrageous. If you are looking for a budget friendly round....this is a good option. The layout is awesome. I really enjoy the course. For the most part the fairways are relatively narrow with most holes having an angle to the fairway, or movement, or dogleg, usually to the left it seems. The greens are also relatively small with pretty severe slopes and humps. Nearly all of them are protected by bunkers and mounds and slope from back to front. There is a good mix on holes-long short etc.. and its fun to play. All that being said....the course conditions are just average. The course as a whole was extremely dry. There hasnt been alot of rain in the area lately and the course needs some. The fairways, tees, greens, and rough were all pretty burnt out. Also, we are in the weird season where the winter rye grass is dying out, but it hasnt been hot enough yet for the bermuda to come in good. Also, at least 3 holes where the yardage on the scorecard were not even close to accurate, so make sure to check. Hole 4, the card says was a 272 yard par 4. When we shot the distance to the 150 marker....it was over 190 to the marker.....so that changes the way you want to play this relatively tight hole. Also a par 3 on the back.......16 maybe...said 160 or so on the card....but we shot it at 197. So just check your distances. If you are looking for a top end course, this may not be your place.....but if you are looking for a budget friendly round on a cool layout that is fun to play and you dont mind these things then this is a good option
False advertisement
This course was not really what it claimed to be. Advertising as the 2015 course of the year and a 4.5 star course we thought we were headed to a pretty nice place.
The course wasnt awful, but it seemed like most $20 value courses college kids go to. The sand pits were clay and full of water. The 3rd 9 was in pretty rough shape and the greens were the slowest I’ve ever seen. VERY slow. Hard to even consider a real golf course slow.
The course has a fun layout and with some care could be really nice value course. But the greens, roughs, and sand traps need some tlc.
Conditions
Greens good,, tee visual on par 4 and par 5 ‘s good ,room in fairways to setup your approach shot into the green ,,. Fairways could use some work also tee boxes could use some work.
AGM
This is a ball friendly course. The fairways are well maintained. The greens had some browning yet rolled true.
Great course
First time playing this course. Every staff member we encountered was very professional and happy to help or provide information. The greens looked and putted great. Course was challenging and fun.
One thing missing
Good fun course. The one thing missing for a first timer was pictures of the hole/layout. Nothing in boxes and black and white pics on scorecard were not helpful. Played Bear and Fox. Will go back to play Otter!
Good value
This course offered a good value for the price. Staff were extremely nice and got us out 45 minutes early with the threat of rain coming later.
Greens are getting better and better every week. Fairways a bit dry. I enjoy this course.
