Old Greenwood Golf Course

About
Old Greenwood, host of the 2020 Barracuda Championship on the PGA Tour, is widely regarded as one of the best public courses ever designed by Jack Nicklaus. It features a beautiful mountain backdrop in the High Sierras, winding through an exclusive neighborhood of homes. Tall pines line its twisting fairways. Deep bunkers and water hazards guard demanding Nicklaus greens. The facility, part of the Tahoe Mountain Club, is also home to a golf academy with one of the best practice facilities in northern California.

If I could give 6 stars, I would.
Played the course with a group of friends and had a fantastic time. The staff was great, very friendly and helpful. The facilities are first rate, well stocked pro shop with an incredible seating area above the 18th green to have a drink after your round.
Old Greenwood is not cheap to play, but worth the money. The practice facility is fantastic, with separate putting and chipping greens. The fairways were lush, and the greens fast and difficult.
If you spray the ball, stay away. The rough isn't difficult, but if you stray off the rough you are in the woods and impossible ground cover. There is water on the course that comes into play.
Be prepared to hit the ball much further then you do at lower altitude! I was a club and a half longer then usual which takes some time getting used to!
The only reason I would give Old Greenwood 4 Stars instead of 5 is the pace of play, the first 5 holes were very slow. This may have to do with people searching for lost golf balls, but also from the forward tee's the par 5's are reachable in two.
A must play!
Great course
The course was in excellent condition. The greens were quite difficult, fast and tricky but a delight to play.
Great course slow play
Marshall never even attempted to get the backlog moving. Absolutely crawling pace and even though we saw the Marshall several times he just sort of shrugged when asked about what was being done to speed the pace of play up. Round would have taken 6 hours had we just not played the front side again instead of the completely backed up back 9. The course is great but I’d rather play a crappy muni course if I have to pay like 200 dollars for a round and the Marshall won’t even attempt try to keep the pace of play up.
A golf adventure I'll never forget
Beyond beauty. Pristine conditions. A punishing course that has a hazard for all of your common misses. Fairways are wide but do not be fooled, course management is key. Favors a fade. Those that have a draw or a hook like me will enjoy the punshiment. Do not go pin seeking, lay up or aim center green when pin is tucked. Greens are hard and fast but immaculate. The course is adventurous, carving through a gorgeous landscape. Couldnt ask for a better experience. Can't wait to play it again.
Pristine golf experience
Course is well manicured and absolutely beautiful. The fairways are striped criss-cross and generous. The rough beyond the first cut is thick ... but not impossible. Greens are well maintained and have undulations to deal with. I basically ended up using every club in the bag. Also take elevation into consideration when you play here as the ball does travel further.
Try to bake in ample time to use the amazing practice range and greens before you start your round.
Old Greenwood
Beverage cart did not have good inventory, course had brown spots, but was challenging.
Amazing!
Old Greenwood is fantastic! A guaranteed challenge for a first time players. Additionally I played 1 week prior to their PGA event. Conditions were amazing and difficult with extra thick first and second cut rough and fast greens. Pin placement was evil. The course was buzzing with activity which slightly distracted from the serenity of an absolute picture perfect course. Play this course and then play it many times again, you will enjoy every round. I have not had the opportunity to spend time using off course facilities, however, staff was friendly, helpful, and eager to assist.
Tough bunkers
Gorgeous course with tough bunkers and sloping greens many options for tough pin placements!
