Rivers Edge Golf Club
About
Rivers Edge Golf Club is a salute to Shallotte (pronounced sha-loot), a beautifully laid-out stunner along the banks of the Shallotte River and the surrounding marshes, at the northern tip of the Grand Strand. Just don't let your friends coerce you into being Macho Man and play it from the back tees if you're a mid- to high-handicapper.
The slope rating is 149 from the tips, one of the highest in the low country, and will throw 10 forced carries at you, either off the tee, to the green, or both. If you fit the above description and try it from the backs, you'll end up tired and frustrated with a scorecard either bloated or unreliable.
A description of Rivers Edge wouldn't be complete without mentioning No. 9, a 570-yard par-5. You can get in trouble if you're long off the tee, in that the second half of the fairway rolls downhill to the marsh. However, if you're short off the tee, you'll be looking at either laying up well to the right of the green, where you will still be in marsh-danger if you venture too far left or are short, or trying to carry a broad expanse of marsh to reach the green, which juts out precariously into the marsh.

great course
Good condition; excellent greens; superb layout; bring extra balls!
Excellent course
I found the course very challenging and at the same time very fun. We were paired with two members they were friendly and extremely helpful. I hope to play here again in the spring or summer
Awesome!
There is not a single negative.....everything about Rivers Edge is awesome and top notch. The conditions in February were immaculate! Friendly staff at every point of contact. Will definitely play again!
Amazing views and course layout.
My golf buddy and I have played most of the high end courses in Myrtle Beach and this course has to rank right up there with them. Having been designed by "The King" himself puts it in the highest category. A lot of holes require a precise T-ball to put you in the prime location to go for the green. The layout and the views are worth the reasonable green fees alone. Especially the look down the 9th fairway to the green sitting out in the marsh waiting for your approach shot. It lives up to it's name, "Arnies Revenge". We had a great time being humbled by this great course.
Feb, 2017
This is the best course I've played in the Myrtle Beach area. The course challenges you in risk reward shot at many peninsula type green. Tee boxes, fairways, greens were in great shape. They only fall back were the bunkers. They were still damp from a past storm and some were not spun..
Great layout
Very much enjoyed the layout of course and the greens. We played with a member so the directions off the tee were nicely layer out . The day was perfect and the company was an added bonus. I would definitely play the course again and may even do so again this trip. Armie did a great job and the club has a nice job maintaining. Fairways are very tightly cut, so not much grass under the ball, but very common for courses down here.
A must play
Always an enjoyable experience. So many signature holes.
Arnies course
Great course. Holes 9 and 17 - extremely hard holes. Greens were great for January. Will play again!
SEEN IT BETTER
I played this course a few years ago and found it was in much better condition then, then now. Was disappointed in the condition of the course but I am sure some of that was due to the time of year. Sorry to say it just was not as good as I remembered.
Scenic & challenging
A great layout that provides a challenge on every shot. Course management is a requisite to score well.
It is very scenic and well maintained.
We had a thoroughly enjoyable day even though the Back nine punished us when we did not play under control!
Wet but wonderful.
Best course I played this trip. Cart path only the day I played. Fairways and greens were outstanding, particularly greens. The 16th hole, the last part 3 has to be the best utilization of land and engineering on the strand or anywhere in the country. This course was well worth the almost one hour drive.
River's Edge In the winter
This course has changed significantly since I last played. I was baited by several River's Edge members who proclaimed that the course is in fantastic conditions. The course was super super wet yesterday when I played with many casual waters on the thin and patchy fairways. Greens were slow around 6-7 but rolling ok.
Some bunkers are still flooded from previous days rain.
This great layout course designed by Arnold Palmer needs some TLC. The staff is friendly and fantastic.
Beautiful Arnold Palmer layout by one of the greats...
Enjoyed our round of golf at this beautiful course. Loved the variety of shots and the scenery. There are some tough holes on this course. We lost a few balls but found as many as we lost so all's good. Fairways were a little dried out except by the greens...guess that is Fall golf in the Carolinas. Will definitely come back in the spring.
Return to play?
I will go back to play the course, it was challenging with risk & rewards.
Hard to beat
I have been a member at Rivers Edge for 10 years and we have never had better greens, they are the best around. The scenery is unmatched along the river. The course is in great shape as the staff works hard to keep it that way. The pro shop and kitchen staff are friendly and helpful. If you live in the area or are visiting, Rivers Edge is a must play course. You will be back.
Best Greens in 10 years
Member at RIver's Edge GC (RE) for 10 years. Best greens ever (new Sunday Ultradwarf Bermuda). RE Always One of best shot-maker layouts in SE & mid Atlantic.Arnie & team did a terrific design. Staff helpful & friendly. Come see for yourself. Great value.
Best views on south east coast
Great course. Holes 8, 9, 15, 16, 17 and 18 are on the Shallotte River. Absolutely breathtaking. Greens are perfect. Play it. You won't be disappointed.
Great course!
This course is challenging yet not overly so. Condition of course was excellent. We played at 1 pm and finished in less than 4 hours (twosome). Scenery was beautiful.
Bring your "A" game
This is a really nice course! Each hole is something different to test your skill. I played from the white tees, and found this course to be very challenging for my skill level. There are multiple shots over marsh land and all the parts 3's are fair but not "gimees" Scenery is awesome! Staff was friendly.
Course conditions were very good with some wet areas as expected because of the recent rainfall.
All in all...great experience. It's a Palmer course...that says it all! Oh...and book it on Golfnow...save some cash!
