About

Holes 18
Type Public

Length 6909 yards
Slope 149
Rating 74.7

Rivers Edge Golf Club is a salute to Shallotte (pronounced sha-loot), a beautifully laid-out stunner along the banks of the Shallotte River and the surrounding marshes, at the northern tip of the Grand Strand. Just don't let your friends coerce you into being Macho Man and play it from the back tees if you're a mid- to high-handicapper.

The slope rating is 149 from the tips, one of the highest in the low country, and will throw 10 forced carries at you, either off the tee, to the green, or both. If you fit the above description and try it from the backs, you'll end up tired and frustrated with a scorecard either bloated or unreliable.

A description of Rivers Edge wouldn't be complete without mentioning No. 9, a 570-yard par-5. You can get in trouble if you're long off the tee, in that the second half of the fairway rolls downhill to the marsh. However, if you're short off the tee, you'll be looking at either laying up well to the right of the green, where you will still be in marsh-danger if you venture too far left or are short, or trying to carry a broad expanse of marsh to reach the green, which juts out precariously into the marsh.

Play smart!

The course was in great shape with the exception of one green. The layout is tricky for a first timer so you may find it beneficial to play to yardages and lay ups. Read the winds and pray on most all short shots and par 3's. Putts are almost all strait and slow so scoring on greens should come easy. Several hole are postcard beautiful and yield great spots for group pics. Play smart, enjoy the scenery, consider taking more than one ball, and have a very memorable round of golf.

Great layout with even better views

River's Edge is one of the better courses in this part of the state. The views on 8, 9, 16, 17, and 18 are worth the green fees alone. The course was in great shape, even with the amount of rain we've had lately. Im looking forward to playing here again, especially if I can find rates as low as I did.

Excellent New Sunday UltraDwarf Bermuda Greens

Last year the decision was made to close the course and renovate the greens at Rivers Edge. The course was the first course to select Sunday UltraDwarf Bermuda grass for the greens. In 12 weeks Rivers Edge transformed into the Championship Course everyone was waiting for. If you have not played Rivers Edge since last year, it is a MUST on your play list. Come see Jeff and the staff and enjoy at great day on the Shallotte River playing Rivers Edge.

Love This Course!

I have played a number of courses in the area and enjoy many of them -- The Thistle, Tiger's Eye, Oak Island, Pine Lakes, Glen Dornach, Heather Glen and others. Rivers Edge is still, however, my favorite. You can't beat the layout and you can't beat the views.

If you're visiting southeastern North Carolina or the Grand Strand, Rivers Edge is a must play. You'll be very happy you did!

Great Experience!

Had a 1:00 tee time after a pouring rain all morning. Wasn't sure if the weather would hold but fortunately for us did. Course had a great layout and views. Definitely would recommend for anyone in the area (we were visiting Coastal Carolina but well worth the hour long drive). Great rate thanks to GolfNow.

Great Course To Plan

The course was in great condition; greens were replaced a year ago and are in the best shape ever. The Views on 8, 9, 16, 17 and 18 are spectacular. This course is fun to play no matter what your level of expertise is.

Course Update

I have been playing this course for 8 years. The greens were replaced in the summer of 2015, and they are now in great shape.. The fairways were wet most of the winter, but are now in the best shape that I've seen them in years.

Overall, the excellent condition of the course combined with some of the best vistas in the Coastal Carolinas make for a great day..

Challenging Golf

if you want a good challenge at a fair price put this course on your list; several golfing friends also rate this course as a must play course; greens are fast with character; target golf where positioning is critical; many memorable holes including the finishing "Arnie's Revenge" where the third shot is 'make or break'. a very good golfing experience.

Most Scenic Course on the Grand Strand

This Arnold Palmer Signature Course on the bluffs above the tidal Shallote River has spectacular views on every hole and some of the friendliest staff anywhere. Course conditions are excellent , especially their new last year Sunday Ultra Dwarf Bermuda greens that look and putt like bent grass but are in great shape year round. This is a challenging course , but with 5 sets of tees everyone can enjoy playing. Fairways are wide and greens are Palmer large but very playable. Rivers Edge is on our "must play " list every time we go to the Myrtle Beach area.. Bring your camera !

awesome views

Beautiful course and great views. The back 9 gets really scenic and has some great angles. Hole #9 is the hardest aproach to the green I have ever seen-very narrow.
I would give this 4 stars but the condition of the course was not great and the greens roll at a snail pace.

Over Priced - Under Maintained

First Arnold Palmer design I have played, not really impressed. Course is scenic, but quite penal. There are many bunkers and waste areas on the course, which are not really cared for as they should be. Most of them had standing water, the sand/dirt in them was not up to the standards of a golf course that charges, what they charge for a round of golf.
The Shallotte river and marsh areas come into play on a lot of holes. The wind can blow, and adds an extra dimension to the course.
The greens are paspalum, which is tolerant to salt water. i do not know if it is a characteristic of this variety of grass or due to the mowing regimen, but these were the slowest greens that I have ever played in over 40+ years of golfing.
This is a course that I have wanted to play the last couple of winters. I am glad that I played it, but I do not foresee a return visit in future winters in the Carolinas.

Much Improved

I have played this course many times. It went through a rough patch after an extreme winter but it is coming back nicely. Each time I play I can see a big improvement in the greens. The fairways are lush after some much-needed rain.

Back In Form

I have played RE over the years and seen it in good times and not so good. This past winter took its toll on many of the top rated courses on the grande strand. After a tough spring Rivers Edge has come back in Grande fashion. The views have always been spectacular and now the course is Spectacular as well. The clubhouse sits atop the 18th & 9th hole overlooking the Shallotte River. What a way to end a great day.

Amazing views, great course

The greens have recovered very from a tough stretch, running true, tee boxes and fairways are in excellent condition. The bunkers are in good shape unless they get heavy rains. A magnificent course with unsurpassed views. Staff couldn't be more friendly or accommodating. A course not to be missed.

Beware

Was at one time a beautiful course. Obviously money problems at this time and very little, if any, maintenance is being completed. Waste areas probably had not been groomed in weeks and consisted of muck. Tee boxes chewed up. Fairways bare in spots and greens in horrific shape. So disgusted we left after 7 holes and went elsewhere. Should have just burned the money.

Early in season after heavy rain

Great course, but range was closed and traps flooded after a heavy rain. In need of a little maintenance. Requires accurate shot making and knowledge of layout, e.g. a mistake to hit driver on many holes.

Beautiful setting. We got a fabulous rate.

Challenging, fun, must play

Very impressed with this course. Every hole had hazards and required good course management but it was very playable with good club selection. Played early season and the course was in great shape. Wonderful views and great course staff.
