About
Rivers Edge Golf Club is a salute to Shallotte (pronounced sha-loot), a beautifully laid-out stunner along the banks of the Shallotte River and the surrounding marshes, at the northern tip of the Grand Strand. Just don't let your friends coerce you into being Macho Man and play it from the back tees if you're a mid- to high-handicapper.
The slope rating is 149 from the tips, one of the highest in the low country, and will throw 10 forced carries at you, either off the tee, to the green, or both. If you fit the above description and try it from the backs, you'll end up tired and frustrated with a scorecard either bloated or unreliable.
A description of Rivers Edge wouldn't be complete without mentioning No. 9, a 570-yard par-5. You can get in trouble if you're long off the tee, in that the second half of the fairway rolls downhill to the marsh. However, if you're short off the tee, you'll be looking at either laying up well to the right of the green, where you will still be in marsh-danger if you venture too far left or are short, or trying to carry a broad expanse of marsh to reach the green, which juts out precariously into the marsh.

Golfer Reviews
Very Enjoyable and Beautiful Course
I've played this course a few times, and always have a great time. Not a hard course, but plenty of trouble to make it a real challenge.......it rewards good shots, and good decisions. Don't try to overpower the course, try to outsmart it. Hit the right club to the right spot and you'll have a chance for a great score (or at least a great hole!). Lots of beauty....enjoy the scenery on and around the course.
Great layout
Played this course several times and is always in great condition. Beautiful layout along the river. Some very challenging holes and some are easier. It is a course my group loves to play every time we visit the Myrtle Beach area.
Great Lay Out
You will want to play this course again, either to play the right tees for your skill level or to just enjoy the challenge and the topography. Every single hole has something that holds your attention and as you walk off each green and look back to the tee you will appreciate the vision that 'Arnie' possessed when he designed this masterpiece. Conditions on the day I played were not 5/5 but where as on most other courses that would have been irritating, it did not detract one little bit from my enjoyment or my desire to keep returning to play here.
The Woes of a First Time Player
We found that most of the hazards were not marked. The course was in a general state of disrepair. The greens were not particularly well kept. The cart we had was in quite bad repair. There was a strange noise coming from the rear wheel. The bunkers were in very bad shape. They had not been prepared for the day.
Course worthy of the King
We ended up having 5 on a very busy day but the pro accomodated us. It only got better. Course was in good shape, it was challenging for all skill levels in our groups and ''tis a beautiful track.
A Must Play Course
I love this course and play it when ever I can get a reasonable price. I've probably brought 6 different people to play this course at various times and they have all enjoyed playing here and want to return.
I've probably played 6 different courses in the past 3-4 weeks and this course was definitely in the best overall condition. The greens were excellent.
The only negative about the course this time was the gold tees were in poor condition. My playing partner was a young kid who can consistently hit 260-280 off the tee and that is the only reason we even noticed the condition. The other tee boxes were all in good condition. To be fair when we inquired about it we were informed that they were over seeded at a later date so I would think they will be fine in 2-3 weeks.
Green side bunkers had good sand but noticed a few fairway bunkers were a little thin, and perhaps they are more waste bunkers and meant to be that way.
Beautiful Scenic Course
This course has some of the most scenic holes in the Grand Strand Area. They are pretty to look at but very challenging to play. Course was in excellent shape. Staff was friendly. Lunch was good. We will return.
Great Course
Fantastic layout beautiful holes fun to play.If your staying in Myrtle Beach give yourself 2 hours to get there. Hour drive & time to warm up.
Great layout
The course is in great condition, with lush fairways and the greens are in good shape with very few pitchmarks. I didn't see any bare areas or weeds on the greens. The layout is spectacular, weaving its way through the marshes. Arnold Palmer really was a masterful designer and the course was a treat to play. The staff was over the top friendly too.
Great Course
My second round at the course this month. Used my head and played 7 strokes better. Traps and tee boxes need some work but overall the course was in very good shape for early March.
Men liked , women not so much
we had 3 couples playing . The women thought the course had too many blind shots. The men thought the course was interesting and challenging.
We likd the front nine better. The back appeared to be an older course not as well cared for. The cartpaths on the back seemed in worse condition.
We were glad we came to play. The price was good .
Great course and friendly staff
The entire staff was friendly and welcoming. The pro shop staff, the waitress, the starter, and the cart attendant were very pleasant.
The greens were outstanding. The course forces you to use all of the clubs in your bag. The layout was excellent as well. Love the variety of holes and great scenery. A very fair, but demanding course. Worth the drive!
Great Golf Course with Beautiful Scenery
Course is in great shape, well maintained, challenging, and well laid out. Greens putt very true. The holes along the Shallotte River are very scenic, beautiful, and challenging.
Great layout- some general maintenance issues need to improve to reflect the quality of this course
