Back In The Rotation?
The "Big Cat" courses had been dropped from our annual trips, as the course conditions seemed to be falling behind others in the area. After this round, we are definitely putting it back on the list.
Everything was in great shape, and the holes were back to being picturesque and challenging. The starters and on-course staff were all pleasant and helpful. Great job overall.
One minor correction needed, though; while we all understand the need to wear masks in the pro shop, it was a bit of a downer to see the pro shop cashier's, which read "Trump 2020". None of us thought it was appropriate for a representative of the course to advertise a political position, regardless of whether it is one we agree with or not.
Must play
We were met by a very friendly and accommodating staff, and everyone from the front door to the finish made us feel welcome. The design / layout was great. Hazards and penalty areas are appropriately placed and fair. There are plenty of tee choices to accommodate any skill level. We will definitely be back!
Could be better
Good course layout just not well maintained. Most bunkers were rock hard and a couple were even underwater. Fairways and tee boxes also had weeds growing on them. Staff was friendly and helpful but overall not worth the money in my opinion until they fix the issues with the course.
Has potential but in only fair condition
I believe this course has the potential to be excellent. But the greens didn't appear to have been cut and needed to be rolled as well, as were bumpy. Many of the tees have bare spaces and most of them had not been properly mowed. Some of the traps were in good shape but most not. The layout is interesting, fairways generous but with fairway bunkering and water hazards, so the course could be first class, unfortunately today it was not.
Fuzzy greens and poor mowing
The course bills itself as a premier course but the greens roll like an unkempt muni course. We were out first in the morning and the greens were slow and fuzzy. If the grass grew during the day the late groups out would need a fairway wood to putt. Not what golfers would expect from a courses(s) that takes pride in themselves. The 2nd cut in fairways and around greens had not been recently mowed either. We were looking forward to playing a premium course but were disappointed.
Great Layout, Conditioning Lacking
First time at Tiger’s Eye. Incredible layout. Fun visuals and very playable.
Was disappointed with the condition of such a highly touted course. The greens were slow and spoungy. A considerable amount of crabgrass in places it wasn’t expected. Not overwhelming, but unfortunately noticeable.
Staff was excellent.
Not what it use to be
This was a 5 star the last time I played it not so anymore tee bxs not cut greens spotty very disappointed played well but way over priced
Great course hidden away
Loved this course. Very scenic and well maintained
Nice course, good price
Fun and reasonably challenging course with friendly staff and excellent pace of play. Very good value for the money. Plenty of wildlife on the course and nice wetlands.
Tigers Eye Review...
The course is great shape compared to many in this area, especially as compared to Panthers Run, which you should AVOID. The greens at Tigers Eye aren't in championship form yet. However, the course played very well. Nice lies in the fairways and the greens were consistent. Alan in the pro shop took excellent care of us and we had a great day of golf. I would play this course again. This course was a great value and the pace of play was excellent. The staff on the course were very attentive and hospitable.
Great Layout
We played this course in October and this course was the best layout and in the best condition of all 4 courses we played at this resort. The greens were beautiful, fairways were in great condition.
Course needs some TLC
I may be spoiled playing greens further north but these were pretty bad. For charging $68 to play I expected better. The layout of Tigers Eye was much more challenging than Panther Run which we also played. I can see where Tigers Eye could be nice but didn’t even looked like they tried to take care of it. Definitely not worth the cash.
Thank you very much for taking the time to review your visit to Tiger's Eye. You are correct, the course conditions at that time were not our best and we have taken immense measures to make the necessary changes to improve our courses and our guest's overall golf experience. We are extremely pleased with the current condition of all four of The Big Cats courses and we think you will agree they have come a long way in a short period of time. We hope you will come again and see these improvements for yourself very soon!
Tiger's Eye Was a Disappointment
My friend and I looked forward to playing one of our favorite courses near Myrtle Beach on May 21, 2019. Tiger's Eye layout has been a very nicely maintained track in the past. However, the Tiger's Eye we encountered on this day was very different. I know there's a water shortage in Brunswick County, NC but that doesn't account for the fact that the tees and fairways look like they haven't seen water in months. I could have used a portable drill to make a hole in the tee it was so parched and hard. True, we did get a lot of extra rollout on our drives but this in no way compensated for the neglected fairways, tees and landscaped areas. I thought this was a disappointing value and we won't return until course conditions improve greatly.
The best of the cat courses
Played on 4/11/19. Thought it was in the best shape of all the cat courses. Definitely the best greens..Staff, starters and cart girl were awesome. If you play any of the Cat courses play this one.!
Fabulous Course
The course was in great shape! The layout was fun and challenging with lots of opportunity for trouble. All of the staff was wonderful and very friendly. The pace was a little slow with a group playing tougher tees then they should and staff kept trying to keep pace flowing well. Really appreciated their diligence!
Thank you so much for the nice review. We are extremely pleased with the current conditions of all four Big Cats courses and we hope to see you out Chasing Birdies with us again very soon!
