Bad conditions
Terrible conditions now. No grasses on fairway and greens. Not worth it pay more than $20. No chance to be in shape this year.
Best scoring round ever
Course was in decent shape but is very dry and hard. Ball bounced and rolled a lot if you kept in the fairway. Staff was very friendly and helpful in every way. Greens were very firm and fair.
I played the gold, forward tees and the layout was very fair and friendly.
Enjoyed the course and my round.
Thank you very much for the good review. We agree, due to the current drought conditions in our area, the course is much drier than usual, but on the brighter side, you can expect to hit some longer than typical tee shots! The course is definitely very playable and will green up quickly once we get some rain and the bermuda breaks dormancy. Thanks again!
Terrible Conditions
This has been one or our favorite courses on the north of Myrtle Beach, but they have let it deteriorate over the last several years. The greens had been aerated a week before and were coming back fine. They putted true and fairly. Unfortunately the fairways are completely burnt out with almost no green grass left. I realize it has been dry recently, but this was the worst course conditions we have seen in our week and a half here. For one of their two premier courses at Ocean Ridge I was very disappointed.
Thank you for taking the time to review your visit to Tiger's Eye. You are correct that the unusually dry and hot spring has caused some unexpected issues, most significantly being that the winter rye grass on the fairways and tees has checked out earlier than usual, before the bermuda could break dormancy. What you are seeing in the fairways and tees is dormant bermuda, which will green up quickly now that the rye grass has checked out. This is a typical transition (Some years are smoother than others, but this one is definitely much earlier than usual) While most of the issues described are outside of our control, I deeply apologize that we did not live up to your expectations. Hopefully you informed someone in the pro shop of your concerns and if so, I also hope they were able to work with your group to try to make amends for your concerns. If this is not the case, please always make sure to bring any such issues to our attention immediately and we will always try to work with you to find a mutually satisfactory solution. We sincerely hope you will come visit us again and see our progress.
Nice layout and good for all skill levels. Staff was excellent and so was the pace of play.
Disappointing, but playable
I had really lofty expectations about this course after reading the website and overall layout in this area, this is supposed to be a premier course and high level of difficulty and in great shape. Not much of that is reality. Most of the staff was fast and efficient, except for the register guy at the pro shop, couldn't say enough how busy they were and where was our entire group, we don't have time to wait for your other twosome, etc. Turns out the course was mostly empty throughout the entire day - he gets an F for customer service. Range balls come from a machine and the buckets are a joke. 30 balls, or to get more you have to drive all the way back and pay again. Range was small, chipping green also small and very hairy (slow!), putting green was better but quite brown and they were running about a 9 on the stimp. Yes, a 9! for a premier club, and the course is not in great shape, it's playable, but crabgrass is everywhere, be ready for sandy lies if you miss the green, very slow greens....Course layout is friendly, however I can count at least 5 holes where there are streams, or lakes, or huge bunkers, or other penalty-causing obstacles over the horizon - you can not see them when teeing off and the graphics on the score cards are not to scale. Would have shot par if not for the massive lake on the back nine par 5, and the rock stream on 18 is always in play with driver, but you can't see it when teeing off from whites. Deceptive courses are not fun and it was my first time, so grrrrr...overall, shot a weak 76 where I was robbed on 3 holes by hidden obstacles, but the day was perfect and I only lost a few hundred to my partner. This club could be much, much better with some much-needed attention.
Thank you for taking the time to review your recent visit to Tiger's Eye.First of all, I DEEPLY apologize for the experience you described below when you check in. We will address this matter immediately and make sure this is not repeated. Regarding the course conditions you described, unfortunately you happened to play during the transition from winter rye to bermuda on the fairways and tees, which is occurring much earlier than usual this year, due to the long dry spell we have experienced. We have FINALLY received some rain in the last couple of days and conditions will be rapidly improving now that the bermuda has the opportunity to break dormancy and green up for the warm weather season. We have also aggressively treated all four Big Cats courses to control any invasive grasses and we are seeing great improvement with this issue already. So, again, I apologize we were not able to live up to your expectations on this visit. I would ask if you brought your concerns to the attention of our pro shop staff on the day you played? If so, hopefully they took the necessary steps to work with your group to find a mutually satisfactory solution, as we are always willing to work with our guests to make sure they are satisfied with their visit. Again, I will address the customer service issue you described as soon as I finish typing. That is unacceptable and we will make sure this is corrected immediately. Thanks again and we hope you will give us another opportunity to win your trust.
Great reviews but today the course was in tough shape
Fairway were very, very dry and brown, tee boxes hard as a rock and greens where very dry with weeds growing all over.. I heard good things about this course and was very disappointed.
Thank you for taking the time to review your visit to Tiger's Eye. This course sits on the high side of our property and, during rainy periods, that is a great advantage, as it drains well, but during extremely dry periods, such as we have had lately, things can firm up quickly. We are applying extra wetting agents and greater irrigation and things will definitely start to green back up quickly. We apologize we were not at our best on the day you played, but we are taking great steps to continue to improve our operation, including course conditions. Thanks again.
Thank you very much for the nice Four Star review. Despite the weather challenges, we are working diligently to keep all four Big Cats courses in good shape for our guests and we will strive to take whatever steps we need to continue to improve. Thanks again
Disappointed
Played it a few years ago and it was awesome. Course is in poor condition this time.
Thank you for the review. We are very sorry to hear we were not able to live up to you expectation on your recent visit. We have had a major dry spell and things have firmed up a good deal over the past week or so. We are going back heavier with wetting agents and extra irrigation and everything should green back up quickly. Again, we are sorry you did not catch us at our best on this particular day. We will take whatever steps necessary to make the improvement needed. Thanks again.
Thank you for the Four Star review! We really appreciate it. We hope you will come visit us again and see our continued progress!
Not super long and plenty of variety.
Greens were fast. Lots of bunkers and water. Had to be strategic on a few holes. Watch out for gators.
Thank you very much for the Five Star review! We really appreciate it. Tiger's Eye is certainly one of the best layouts in our region and always fun to play. We hope you will come visit us again soon.
PS: Hopefully Big Al didn't take too big of a bit out of your scorecard..
Forgot How Good This Course Is
Haven’t played here in quite a few years. Terrific layout. Greens a little slow but very true. Course has recovered nicely since the Tornado. Staff extremely friendly.
Would recommend again.
Great Kayout
My second time playing this week . Very nice layout. Fair fir any level with their many sets of tees.
Thank you very much for the Four Star Review! We hope you will check out the other three Big Cats courses as well. All are in very good condition now. Thanks again.
Great Course & Great Price
After initially being paired, I was fortunate enough to be able to play majority of the time solo.
The course is an awesome course. I honestly enjoyed this layout more than Leopard’s Chase. I posted my lowest score yet (good thing I have all of this video footage to justify it). The driver was feeling really good in my hands. I finished in the fairway nine times. Unfortunately, I had 4 drop penalties due to attempting to cut corners. Needless to say I ended up in the water on each of those tries. Almost every hole has water in play.
Overall, this way be my favorite bang for your buck course so far. The fairways and greens were in great shape and to hit this course at $55 a round, is a no brainer. The oceanridgenc has 4 courses that could fill up an entire weekend of fun on the links. This venue has received numerous awards throughout the years and you can tell right away.
Hopefully this round and my other round at Leopard’s Chase will keep me trending in the right direction. I will certainly be returning to this venue in the near future. You can count on that.
P.s. drive distances may be +/-. After I hit my shots, I would use the range finder and subtract that distance. (400 yard hole, 250 yard from flag= 150 yards off the tee)
Good Option
Pace was sort of slow once we got to about hole #8, but it was still a good round. Greens were quick, rest of the course look to be in great shape albeit a little wet. Would def play again.
Thank you very much for the awesome Five Star Review! We really appreciate it. We hope you will come visit us again soon.
Course was in great shape
Really enjoyed the course. Great shape especially for early April. Bermuda greens rolled smoothly.
Thank you for taking the time to review your recent round on Tiger's Eye. We agree, the course is in very good condition and still getting even better daily. We hope you will come visit us again and see our continued progress.
Thank you for the Five Star Review! We are so happy to hear you enjoyed your visit and we hope you will come play Tiger's Eye or one of the other three Big Cats courses again very soon.
Great course
Great course and good value with deal times. Wonderful layout, but the grass on the tee boxes and fairways was quite long.
Thank you very much! Tiger's Eye is definitely a wonderful layout. the grass has REALLY started growing fast with the recent warm up and sunshine. We have accelerated our mowing schedule to match this change and the tees and fairways should be very playable everyday going forward. Thanks again!
Grass conditions
Although it was early in the season, the greens were very poor and fairways are being overgrown with weeds. Not the conditions we expected for a$50 greens fee nor the conditions expected from these courses. I've played all the other big cat courses a few years ago and they were fantastic. I'm afraid time had taken it's toll on all these courses.
We deeply apologize we were not able to meet your expectations on your recent visit. As you noted, it is early in the season and all bermudagrass, including the TifEagle greens on Tiger's Eye are currently dormant, so they are off color right now (We do apply a pigment to help with color) but this is typical of all bermuda greens before the spring warm-up. I assure you they will be lush and green as soon as the weather allows. In the meantime, dormancy does not affect the roll of the ball (Other than making them somewhat faster) so the greens are very playable. We did have a major tornado strike our property in February and the cleanup is continuing after this tragic disaster, which severely damaged over 60 homes on Lion's Paw, right across the street from Tiger's Eye. It is possible the mowing was somewhat delayed on the day you played due to dealing with cleanup issues, but I will pass this information along to our greens superintendents and make sure they are doing everything necessary to address any weed or mowing related issues immediately. Again, I apologize for your unsatisfactory experience and we take your feedback seriously and will do whatever is needed to improve our operation. Thank you.
Thank you for taking the time to review your recent visit to Tiger's Eye. We apologize that you did not catch us at our best, due to the extreme drought conditions we have faced over the past two months. We are watering greens and tees as usual, but have had to ration the water on our fairways due to the very low water level in our ponds right now. Fortunately, things will green back up quickly once we get some rain. Trust me, the grass is most certainly not dead. Bermudagrass goes dormant through the winter and breaks dormancy in late spring. The lack of natural water has delayed that process and that is what you are seeing. The grass is very much alive and with full coverage. It is just brown at the moment, but that will change almost overnight with the first good rain we receive (Soon, we hope!) Hopefully you will come back an play again in the future and see that the course is in much better visual condition than you
