Awesome course!!
She's a little rough around the edges but keep it in play and you will be rewarded with excellent lies and positive approaches! Greens roll like a champ!! A little TLC and this could be in position as the #1 big cat!! Very nice staff and really cool attendant on duty!
Leopards’s Chase August 2, 2020
Greens & Fairways were in terrible condition. Layout was nice but hot weather and lack of course maintenance has taken a toll. Bare spots on most greens & crab grass & fescue throughout the fairways.
First Off
They allowed me to play as a single in the first time slot. Played in 2hrs 15 minutes. All things considered the course was in good shape, a few rough patches on the greens but it was an enjoyable round. Would definitely play it again and recommend it to others.
Bent grass greens do not survive here in summer
Played this course about a month ago and it was great. Now the greens and some tee boxes barely have any green grass.
Leopards Chase was a little disappointing
We thought we would be playing the premier of the CATS courses... the staff could not be friendlier and hospitable. The course we had been told had taken a lot of abuse from the scorching heat and humidity and we found this to be true. Some tees had been worked over fairly well. All the greens were HEAVY and had not been mowed for a few days which we assumed to be due to the possible virus they could experience. You had to hit your putt rather than roll your ball, if that makes any sense. This did take away from the outstanding layout of the course. For the money this course can get, the greens were definitely not worth the price, in my humble opinion.
Lack of Upkeep
Disappointed to say the least. Greens were in terrible shape (many dead spots, chunks of grass, and not mowed in a while). Weeds growing in the bunkers was a bad look. Had played the course a few years ago and it has gone downhill since. Quite possibly the worst value in the area.
What a Shame
This course is a wonderful layout gone to waste. The rough is filled with overgrown weeds. The bunkers are unplayable. The greens are barren. The men working the pro shop and the starter seemed annoyed that I was there. They had no hospitality whatsoever. Poor.
Good course very slow greens!
Beautiful layout. Clubhouse was run down but for the money decent course. The greens were super slow!!!
Great Layout Bent grass in summer is tough to keep at > 9 on stimp
Great Layout. Appropriate challenge at all tee markers. Greens were avg for summer heat
Course Needs Care
The course had a great layout with a lot of potential and the staff was extremely friendly. But, the course looked like it had not been kept up well in years. Not a single sand trap or natural area was playable on the entire course. An overwhelming majority of the course had not been mowed in probably weeks. The greens were about the length of an average fairway, which made them the slowest greens I have ever witnessed in my life. I want to give them the benefit of doubt but the course was not worth the money when I played.
Nice course - greens a bit slow
First time at the course. Had a 7:30am tee time and went off on time, passed a 2-some on number 4 and finished as a single in 2:30 hours. Course is nice, fair amount of water and fairways in pretty good shape. Some of the greens had some damage (disease) but that was spotty so not terrible. But the greens were perhaps the slowest I have seen in years. Maybe the type of grass or the “high” mowing. Also, they could use a good rolling to even them out as they were also a bit bumpy. Staff was nice. Good place to play
The overall shape of the golf course was in poor condition. The greens were very slow and dead in spots, the sand traps were full of water, and we felt rushed with the course being double booked. It was not worth the price to play.
For the right price it’s worth it.
I have worked at the cat courses, but regrettably never did play Leopards Chase. I was excited to see how it compares to the others as I’ve played them all several times. Let’s get to the basics...cart attendant was super cool, but as does happen with most starters, he had a bit of an attitude. Granted we were late, but I looked at the tee sheets and they were dead so I wish staters would just relax a bit!! During COVID and in this economy every business dollar is precious.
Playing some of the other cat courses I was worried as the conditions of the others are really really bad!! Leopards Chase is better, but still has low standards. Many bald spots in the rough and greens. Many fairways have weeds growing out of them. Green were bent grass, but that’s only good in the winter in the south. So the grass was really long and greens SUPER slow! Layout was really nice, but was shadowed out by sub par course conditions.
Tigers Eye used to be one of the best public courses on the grand strand. I played it and it was really in rough shape! Leopards Chase does measure up to it though...hence the title “for the right price”. Leopards Chase is a $45 course all day long and I wouldn’t pay a dollar more! So for $71 as high as I’ve seen PLEASE save your money!!!! There are many other strand courses that are worth the same or more! If you can get it for $45 then worth the play of you haven’t played it.
Beautiful but Challenging
Stunning views on this course....especially 18th. Lots of hazards so be prepared with extra balls. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The bent grass greens do not fare well during the summer and were showing some distress. Probably better to play this course in spring and fall.
