The Metropolitan Golf Links

I love links golf. After struggling on the shag carpets of Sharp Park and Fleming 9 (both well worth a play) it was nice to be on some rather firm and fast ground for a change. The greens were great, the green complexes presented some challenges and offered some routes that a land player could use to work the ball to the hole. It's on my list for a replay, now off to Corica Park.

always windy here. greens in great shape but plenty of fairway and other grass that is just rock hard dirt or patchy. If the rest of the course was maintained like the greens were it’d be awesome.

Pace of play slow but everywhere in the bay area is like that on the weekends unfortunately.

liked the GPS in the cart. Greens were fast but in great shape. Fairways have lots of dirt spots still.

Positives first - This course is incredible. Beautiful scenery with a challenging course layout that demands accurate shots off the tee. Greens were in excellent condition.

Big negative - The biggest gripe is that it ended up being nearly a 6 hour round of golf. As we pulled up to the third hole, were 2 groups waiting at the tee box for the group ahead of them to finish teeing off. The staff said they talked to the groups about increasing the pace of play but ultimately nothing happened. It was clear that it’s a common complaint they receive.

Would play again but only for an early tee time, otherwise you need to budget 5+ hours for the round.

Great greens. Carts have GPS and overall reasonable good condition of fairways. Staff is friendly and carts have reminders for pace of play. We kept getting this reminders with time (7 minutes,etc) behind standard playing time. However we were waiting on group in front of us. And they in turn were waiting. So maybe the third group in front was holding the course and they were walking with no reminders. I recommend this course.

I find this course to be very fair and challenging from the tips. True links style when the wind is blowing. I found I had to club up 2 clubs at times when hitting into the wind. The lay out makes you think about your lines from the tee box, where you want to land and attack the green. If you are out of position the course forces you to lay up. The greens have great undulations and rolls great and true. I have a 6 index and I shot my index that day. I finished my round in 4.30 hours. Always look forward to playing this course when I’m in the area.
