About
Editor's Note: Course closed and redesigned as Cabot Citrus Farms.
The Pine Barrens at World Woods Golf Club is one of two championship golf courses at the club. Named after the numerous pine trees that cover the course especially along the fairways, it feels far removed from the Florida coasts. Tom Fazio designed the course and it is considered not only some of his best work, but one of the best courses in the state. It is a tight golf course that is notorious for its vast waste areas and bunkers. Although it has a modest length of 7,259 yards, there is plenty of length within the layout with many of the par 4s stretching past 400 yards. There are two small lakes that come into play. The fourth hole is one of the most well known, and most photographed, in the state. It is a par 5 with a treacherous waste area dominating the right side all the way to the green.

World Woods is #1 in the region !! Photo submitted by webbknight on 09/21/2012
Nice course. You can tell it's been sold and not much maintenance being done. Needs alot of TLC to bring back to prestine shape. Fairways were good and lush. Greens were slower than expected. Sand and waste area were difficult to play from but overall not bad. I booked on line and got a deal for 57.00 worth every penny. Regular rate of 109.00 is too high in my opinion. I will play again at the discounted rate.
Expected a little more
Driving into the property my first impression was is this a deserted, old golf course. It was very eerie feeling. However, once on the first tee, I was pleasantly impressed by the layout of Pine Barrens. Bring a shovel, because there’s a ton of sand. Green complexes were very challenging. Now that Cabot links has purchased the property I’m hopeful that the redesign will greatly improve the course. I give the course a solid 3.5 stars. Very good.
Regret…
Pine Berren - I regret waiting so long to play this course. It is one of the best I’ve played in Florida. There is nothing bad to say other than it’s closing In June. Cabot links bought the property and plans to spend 18 months renovating the 2 courses. I can’t wait to play it again. If you have a chance to play it, do it. You’ll love it.
Two Great Courses
Our day began with a 90 min frost delay. We had plan to play Pine Barren first then Rolling Oaks second. Management let us swap so we would get 36 in. Pine is a tough course where accuracy is needed on approach shoots. Shots slightly off will penalize you harshly. Rolling is a course with generous fairways and very receptive greens. Overall pace of play way fantastic, course conditions were great and we most definitely will play again.
first review
Nice layout. Course was a challenge especially the greens. Clubhouse not very nice. Very run down.
Waste of money
It’s been 10 years to play here.
I am very dissatisfied. The tee boxes and green condition are terrible.
Don’t waste of your money and time.
Much improved
Although still not worth the current rate, it is well worth a hot deal under $50. Greens much improved from the last few months. Looking forward the seeing how the new owners can bring that back to its glory days.
Golfers Paradise
This piece of ground is an amazing layout to drive to for a special golf paradise experience. Course has been there for 30+ yrs and it shows in certain places and it will be a travesty if the new owners come in and tear it apart!
The tranquility among the hundreds of Oak trees with the hanging air moss makes this golf experience like no other public golf place. Its about the golf, not the clubhouse which it should be. Its about meeting golfers of all ages and locations enjoying this special layout using every club in your golf bag. Check it out soon before the new owners come and potentially screw up this special expereince.
Play it before it closes for 18 months!
Driving up the entrance you can see that they have not maintained the property as the asphalt was buckling and the gate house was unoccupied. Very friendly inside at check in and starter at first tee very knowledgeable. Fairways were green and almost looked like bent grass. Greens were in excellent shape and on the smallish side. Lots of workers cutting and blowing leaves off course. This was best course I have played in the area. Would I pay $100 to play here? No but at $50-$60 is an excellent value. Course has been purchased by Cabot Links out of Nova Scotia Canada. They are going to close it down this summer for 18 months and redo both courses, clubhouse, etc. Going to be a destination spot in 2023.
Getting Better
Been a couple months since I played at World Woods...Pine Barrens was "healing" in nice shape. Greens were overall good and the rest of the course in fine shape. Always a treat to play at World Woods!
Best public course in Florida
Fantastic layout and conditions. Worth the 2.5 hour drive from my home. Played the Pine Barrens course and the par three course. Extraordinary practice areas, as well.
Worth the money, doesnt feel like
Great layout, course in good shape. I would go 4.5/5. Playing this course makes you feel like you are not in Florida. Greens not super fast but rolled well. Few greens had small dead spots, but doesn't change my opinion of the course. Staff was very friendly. 4 hours & 10 minutes to finish our round as foursome. Will definitely return in the future.
Pine Baron
Greens could have been better. Live course layout but bummed about green conditions.
