The Hills Course at Red Hawk
About
The Resort at Redhawk is known to golf travelers around the globe and is one of the highlights of the grand golf destination that is the High Sierra. Located in the town of Sparks, next door to Reno, the Hills Course is one of two 18-hole runs at Redhawk and draws raves for its challenging play and incredible scenery.
Designed by three-time U.S. Open champion Hale Irwin, the Hills Course offers players a Scottish links-style layout that has small and dastardly greens, dramatic elevation changes, deep bunkering and immaculate views of one of the most scenic golf destinations in the United States.
While the Hills Course is a must play in the Reno area and will challenge long hitters with a 127 slope rating, Irwin added another touch to the resort. A unique, 18-hole putting green will have players competing, all the while improving their putting game, helping to make Redhawk and the Hills Course a standout in the High Sierra.

First time playing here
This is a good solid golf course. The course was in good shape except for the sand traps. They need sand in them badly. The greens were the only ones during the week that were not slow. They were not fast, just not slow. The course has some decent variety, especially the back nine. The first 6 holes or so are flat then it goes up and down the hills. The carts were very nice and had GPS that worked great. The carts have GPS which don't let you go on certain parts of the course which I understand, but sometimes it is overdone. The staff was helpful and very friendly.
Golf
Nice day for golf, staff were awesome, course was in great shape. Nice day to play golf in Sparks Nevada!
Better
We played it last week, it's getting better every week.
Nice day
I haven't played the Hills course in a while. We got a very good deal on it the 142.80 was for four of us. The course is in as good of shape as any in the area at this time of year. The greens are starting to come around the fairways are getting green. There was a group in front of us (not slow or fast) no one behind us. No wind sunny day 75 degrees nice, nice day just what your looking for.
Good Course...Horrible Carts
The Hills course was in good shape for this time of year. The course was setup well and challenging for a veteran golfer, but not unforgiving (lot's of "Member Bounces"). The issue I had was with the Carts. They are computer controlled. and are OVERLY cautious. They adjust speed too much, the screens are horrible. The GPS doesn't work correctly, and throws tons of warnings. It told me I needed to be back on the cart path and it slowed me to a crawl (literally), however, I was ON the cart path.. This needs to be resolved! The Greens had just been punched, but barely effected the putting rolls.
Windy condition Fast Greens
Did I say WInd oh yea. 3 put were common as the wind was blowing. I would love to play this in less wind.
Good layout
Course was a little brown recovering from winter, but the fairways and greens were in good shape. Fast greens.
The course was scoreable!
The pace of play was a draw back. There were several holes with two or three groups waiting around the tee box. Hole 18's fairway was severely sloped toward the water. I drove the ball right down the middle of the fairway and it ended up 2 feet from the water. Other than that, the course was set up to score well.
