The Hills Course at Red Hawk
About
The Resort at Redhawk is known to golf travelers around the globe and is one of the highlights of the grand golf destination that is the High Sierra. Located in the town of Sparks, next door to Reno, the Hills Course is one of two 18-hole runs at Redhawk and draws raves for its challenging play and incredible scenery.
Designed by three-time U.S. Open champion Hale Irwin, the Hills Course offers players a Scottish links-style layout that has small and dastardly greens, dramatic elevation changes, deep bunkering and immaculate views of one of the most scenic golf destinations in the United States.
While the Hills Course is a must play in the Reno area and will challenge long hitters with a 127 slope rating, Irwin added another touch to the resort. A unique, 18-hole putting green will have players competing, all the while improving their putting game, helping to make Redhawk and the Hills Course a standout in the High Sierra.

Redhawk Golf
Pace of play was very good. Playing conditions were very good. I recommend playing here.
Once a premier layout.
Don't get me wrong I liked the course. But...it is in a state of disrepair.
The travel to the first tee and back from the clubhouse is a nightmare, you can easily get lost.
No drinking water on the course.
Greens were in good condition, fairways were rough.
My son and I played a 3.5 hour round and waited on every hole on the front nine...finally played thru on 10.
I would play again but it is too bad it is being neglected.
This course had some cool holes
This course had some super cool holes. The round was very pleasurable. The only thing we would request would be water out on the course.
Hills course
Enjoyed the entire round. Pace of play great. Caught up wit 4some on #17. Was good otherwise. Bunkers are getting better. Most have decent sand in them.
Great Course - Staff Needs Lessons in Customer Service
My wife and I played here while vacationing in the Reno area. We got a GolfNow Hot Deal which was $40 each. Beasutiful setting. Two courses - the Lakes is down in the valley floor and the Hills, which we played, climbs the hills on the side of the valley. That means you have to deal with less water, but more elevation changes. There were several holes where good shots were punished due to the sidehill fairways.
Greens and tees were in great shape. Fairways were OK., but nothing more. The bunkers were a mess and highly variable. Some were like wet concrete and others had 8" of fluffy sand.
Our lasting impression, unfortunately, will be of a staff that was unfriendly and didn't seem to care (except for the starter who as OK. When we arrived, the staff stood by and watched while we unloaded our own clubs. The women behind the counter in the pro shop seemed like we were interrupting their conversation - bad attitude. Beverage cart attendent seemed to have an attitude. When we returned. the outside staff ignored us while we unloaded our clubs off the cart and carried them out to the car. Overall, we didn't feel welcome and we won't be back.
OK, but...
Haven’t played this course in years and looked forward to the round. All grass areas were in pretty good shape. “Sand” traps were more like wet gravel pits. Got lost several times between holes because of missing signs. Fairway yardage is almost impossible to determine unless you have a range finder. Maybe the Lakes Course gets more attention? I won’t play here again unless I get a good deal on the fee.
Nice day, enjoyable round
Played this course several times in the past two years. My only complaint regards the golf balls and mats at the range. The balls are horrible, and the mats need to be replaced. This is a resort quality facility, but the range is muni-quality.
Staff is very friendly. I got to play by myself with their approval.
Staff
Staff was very friendly. Only problem was cart girl only showed up 2 times and we were out of water and beer for 8 holes. Not good it was hot.
Great course!
Red Hawk Hills (& Lakes) courses are probably the best semi-private courses in the Reno/Tahoe area, especially with the frequent Hot Deals available on GolfNow.com. My wife and I played the Hills course on a Friday and found it in the usual great shape. When in the Tahoe area we frequently make the trip from Tahoe City to play Red Hawk because of the good course conditions and reasonable prices.
Lucky day for us
The weather report chased everyone away. Practically had the place to ourselves. Course is in very good shape. We had a good rate and the course challenging but fair. Food at the grill is also very good.
May Hills review
Course was in the best shape I've seen in years. Greens and Fairways were both immaculate! Less than 4 hour round for our foursome as pace was never an issue.
5 stars!
Friendly staff. Logan checked me in quick and I went to the starter Nixon and he suggested that I try the Hills course because the first three holes were wide open. I had a great time, although the greens were aerated, and the wind was blowing pretty good, I played a good round. Thanks Red Hawk!!!Cheers
The starter, Nixon is the absolute worst!!
Every time we play at red hawk one of the starters named Nixon give us some sort of hassle before our round... talk about bad service ... he ruins our day every single round!!
Nice layout with very good conditions
Coming from Florida with more than our share of flat layouts it was a welcome change to get some ups & downs for a change. Now that could also apply to my golf game but, in this case, the reference is to the well manicured and somewhat challenging Hills course. Pace of play was excellent and there were plenty of workers in plain site keeping the course in shape. Can't speak for the locals but recommend for anyone looking for a fun course with excellent conditions.
Great Course
The hills course is in the best shape its been in in years. Even the sand traps are in good shape. I still dislike the matted range.
Course in need of maintenance
Red hawk runs a local television commercial that states they are in the best shape of any course in the area. Maybe they should go play the course and see what shape it is really in, not bad but not great. Weeds in a lot of the bunkers that the sand is hard pan, dead tee boxes and bumpy greens. I know it is early in the year but course could use some help before it's in great shape.
Greens are in good shape
Really my only issue on the hills is no snack bar, cart person didn’t have any food except for candy.
They should also provide range balls at the price you pay. Other than that the pace was okay and it was in good shape
Course lay out to natural terrain
This is not my first time playing this course. It has a challenging layout that goes with the natural terrain of the area. Course was in good shape considering the amount of rain in the past month.
