Indian Canyons Golf Resort - South Course
About
Nestled at the base of the San Jacinto Mountains, Indian Canyons Golf Resort offers two championship courses with stunning views. The two golf courses, North and South, have completely different layouts but they are both sheltered from the wind thanks to the surrounding mountains. The South Course is the shorter of the two, making it the more player-friendly course. That is not to say it is not a challenge though. The rolling fairways are framed by contoured mounding and four expansive lakes come into play on six holes. The par 5s are particularly memorable. There are also well over 1,300 palm trees throughout the golf course, which includes hundreds of Washingtonia filifera palms. These trees are native to the Agua Caliente Tribe and an important part of their history.

17th green, short par 4, layup short of the water before hitting over to a guarded green. Just an iron and a wedge, but what a beauty! Photo submitted by t781893493 on 05/01/2019

Compared to what's around
Played four rounds while I was down for a trip. First was taquitz creek then mission hills Gary player next rancho la quinta country club and last was the south course. Way over priced in my opinion. Really really feels like a muni course for $120+. Should have free range balls and better course conditions were not great. Way better options around the area.
South
Rode the Blacks (6560/71.1/123) in slightly less than 4H mid day on a GN "Hot Deal". 103, clear and fairly calm.
Redesigned by Amy Alcott/Casey O'Callaghan in 2004, the South is shorter and a more picturesque layout that it's sister North course. This would be a challenging layout to walk, the hole 13-16 loop goes away from the rest of the course. Mostly generous fairways with a decent amount of large water hazards to navigate over on several approach shots. One double green (10/17), and numerous greens have runoff areas mowed down like a links style course, while others have deep rough just off the green.
Tees were mostly lush and well maintained for divots.
Fairways were lush and nice to play from.
Rough was semi lush and mostly mowed down, good POP rough.
Sand traps were decently maintained with fine quality sand.
Greens were firm and putted medium fast speed. Front 9 greens were a 9, excellent/smooth. Back 9 greens had been punched with small tines and were more like a 6.
Very good customer service, quick efficient check-in and the starter was friendly and informative. Kudos to Sang in the cart barn, exceptional customer service. Drink cart out making the rounds. Bottled water and ice provided. Prepaid but all check is done outside. All grass range with complementary balls. Fun layout to play, recommended.
Little sister !
This course is in very good shape, but no where near the challenge of its big brother across the street! I much prefer Indian Canyons north and really hope the Indian tribe realize what a gem they have over there. They need to show some love to the North course and start using it for tournaments again!
Cheers
Great experience
Food was great , service was excellent and most of all the GC was is great shape, the drive from 16 to 17 is weird because you travel through in developed land but overall it’ was fun
Great layout
Terrific course, with a friendly and helpful staff.
Had breakfast on the patio, was excellent.
We’ll definitely return.
Great Hidden Gem
Awesome track. Tucked back in the mts. out of the wind. Greens are smooth and pure. Run real true. Challenging yet fair.
Great value for the money.
A gem of a course
Every time we are in the area we play here. A beautiful layout and spectacular views. One item to watch was the last two times played, the back nine was very slow. The rangers were very visible but no push was applied. I am a average golfer and enjoy playing here.
